Troon Links - Lochgreen
About
After or before chowing down on the clubhouse's "Scottish Fayre," take on Troon Links Lochgreen Course.
The Lochgreen Course at Troon Links is widely regarded as the best of the municipal golf courses in Troon, though all offer a great round of golf at prices hard to beat in Scotland.
Troon Links Lochgreen Course is facility's largest, a par-74 that parallels in parts Royal Troon Golf Club and has served as a qualifier for the Open. Jack Nicklaus, for one example, once shot an 82 on the golf course and needed to follow it up with a 68 to make the cut by one shot.

Season opener
Lochgreen has long been a favourite, especially in the winter.
It’s a cracking course that it’s tricky to play but not too punishing that you are always hunting for balls, even with the inevitable wind blowing!
Always in great condition but particular at this time of year when inland courses are sodden or even flooded.
There are obviously more illustrious courses in the area but it’s a gamble paying top dollar in February/March when theres a possibility of a horrendous conditions.
Lochgreen is tremendous value and you’d be hard pushed to get more bang for your buck.
Well worth playing - amazing value
Had a phenomenal time playing round Lochgreen - managed to find a suitably good blue skies day but was pretty much freezing conditions. Greens were a little hard at start (first tee time out) but thawed up nicely.
Booked in myself for a round given the good weather and Lochgreen was the only course available for early start so headed there first - 7:50 was first tee time of the morning and I was the only one booked on so after check in headed out to tee off. Teed off as the others teed off on fullarton and Darley either side of me and thoroughly enjoyed my round.
Course is fantastic - reaffirmed my view from first time I played it as a guest. Brilliant mix of longer challenging par 5s, short tricky par 4s and well protected par 3s - it’s a great test of golf but fairly forgiving. Only one lost ball off a wayward drive onto the railway line. 🤦🏼♂️
Being first out pace of play was no problem obviously and I was able to shoot around quite quickly in under three hours. The three ball behind me didn’t look like they were losing too much time either so pace of play seemed decent in general - prob in part being the longest course of the thee at Troon Links that attracts longer hitters / players?
Thought greens were in decent nick - last time I played they had looked battered. Far too many people not repairing pitch marks etc which is pretty sad gone how fantastic the course is and fact getting to play full greens in winter.
Overall I really enjoyed myself - despite playing solo which I generally try to avoid - and would highly recommend Lochgreen to any golfers looking for a good value links course.
Great course
Perfect fairways and greens, pity about the weather.
Really Good layout
It had a really good layout for different and it is not too hard for beginners to play it
In surprisingly good condition after all the rainfall and frost
Lochgreen
Great course good day we had greens great for this time of year always enjoy this course. Only downside was a fourball that was
2 in front of us holding every one up.
Winter green disappointment
The lochgreen is an excellent golf course. The reason we go to the coast is to get full greens in winter. So u can imagine our disappointment when it was winter greens. Whilst I could understand why the disappointment was 2 fold. 1. It would be fairly easy to email customers. The excuse of me being a golf now booking and unable to contact seems redundant when the course had my email address. 2. Still charging full price for winter greens. Most courses will offer a discount when this is the case. We were not offered this.
Lochgreen
It's an amazing course and was in great condition after a lot of rain. All the greens were on. Worth the money.
Will be playing it again.

Staff on front desk are arrogant and stuck up
Had an outing at this course, First impressions were good until you had to deal with the 2 men at the front desk, very cheeky going about the business of paying for the buggy and asking for score cards. Poor attitude towards people who are there to pay good money for food, beverages and a nice round of golf.
Lochgreen
Played the course after some very heavy rain, but still well.playable and in fine condition. No hold ups and a good fair challenge. Will definitely be back.
Lochgreen
Played the course a few times, found the fairways very dry and bumpy but greens were in fantastic condition,
Clubhouse was shut before 6 no place to wash up or use toilet facilities after that .
Great intro to links golf
First time playing links golf in Scotland. Used a hot deal, super easy check in, little bit complicated to navigate after the first hole but well worth it. A great test of golf!
Worn Out
As you can appreciate, having Troon in the title will always attract plenty of folk. However, the course is worn out. The Tee boxes are full of divots, litter and broken tees. No bins for the tees means people throw them everywhere and with such high traffic, there is a huge amount of them. Litter in general is an issue. Bunkers where not raked by golfers after visits, do they think its someone else's job? Fairway divots are EVERYWHERE. The only saving grace are the greens, which are decent. In all, the huge amount of cash this place generates clearly isn't reinvested, its tired, scruffy and £20 at best.
