Troon Links - Lochgreen

About
After or before chowing down on the clubhouse's "Scottish Fayre," take on Troon Links Lochgreen Course.
The Lochgreen Course at Troon Links is widely regarded as the best of the municipal golf courses in Troon, though all offer a great round of golf at prices hard to beat in Scotland.
Troon Links Lochgreen Course is facility's largest, a par-74 that parallels in parts Royal Troon Golf Club and has served as a qualifier for the Open. Jack Nicklaus, for one example, once shot an 82 on the golf course and needed to follow it up with a 68 to make the cut by one shot.

Wet October golf
Raining (misty rain) the first 9 holes, the greens weren’t good to putt on due to a lot of casual water, I thought this would have been cleared in the morning (or the course closed and refunded for the round)
Back nine was better, but still not great.
The course wasn’t worth the money on this occasion but I have previously played the course and it was in much better condition. Maybe an off month or something
October game
Played on an gorgeous autumn day, course was very enjoyable plenty of room for wayward shots still a good test though. For this reason I would recommend the Lochgreen course .
Great course
Very friendly and efficient team meeting us. Straight on the course at our allotted time. Lovely course to play with excellent scenic views. Course and greens in immaculate condition. Would play there again and again
Great course
Great day out just a shame the bar shut at 3 meaning we couldn’t have an after match pint
Troon Lochgreen
First time playing this course after playing it regularly 30 years ago. Greens are still in great condition but a lot of areas of the course are looking tired and overplayed especially on the fairways with bare lies. However nice to re-visit but overall would not play Lochgreen again based on current condition.
Winter Golf
Booked Lochgreen at the last minute, weather was decent so fancied a game. Big greens and fairways in play (no hitting from mats or in first cut of ruff which seems to be the norm even on links courses these days). Played with two other Golf Now bookers and enjoyed my day.
Wet
Course was in good condition and well priced .
We played on a wet and windy night and was the only people out on the course so the Pro had gone home but cards were in the clubhouse .
Fairly playable as my friend Swampy still had 38 points
Worth a visit in my opinion
Great course but very slow players
Course was fantastic, greens were in amazing condition. The reception staff were helpful and very cheerful. I played just myself but soon caught up with groups of 3 and 4 balls which is fair enough but it ended up causing hold ups with all groups at a lot of points due to very slow play with a few groups which is the only let down but not the fault of the course. Highly recommended course.
Excellent
Travelled from Glasgow due to better weather and course conditions in Troon and we were not disappointed! Great condition, all tees on and all greens were on and perfect!
Good round spoilt by snails
Always enjoy our visits to Troon and knew the time would be tight teeing off at 12pm.
However the pace of play was horrendously slow and we found the cause as we were on the 5th tee. There was a ladies 3 ball on the 8th that had lost 2 holes on the game in front and was holding up everyone behind.
Had to play the last 2 holes in the dark and eventually got in at half 4.
Would still recommend the course and will be back despite the slow play.
Wonderful layout and superb condition Flor November. Four hour round therefore had we played at time of booking we would not have played full round
Has it all
Links, parkland, fast greens, fun holes, undulations, the lot. Its a belter.
Staff in Troon are great too. Recommend this to anyone!
Decent muni course
Muni courses in Troon are much cheaper than the high priced ones in The area. Have played Darley before which was tight but lots of fun. Lochgreen is maybe the most wide open course I have ever played. Pretty hard to lose a ball but some holes were long and greens surrounded by bunkers which toughened it up a bit. Pace of play was good and Course was in good shape. Reception was average; fellow who checked us in not very friendly and welcoming. The person in pro shop was friendly.
