Turnhouse Golf Club

About
Turnhouse Golf Club debuted as a nine-holer in 1897, but expanded to 18 by 1900. A wooden hut was its first clubhouse - perhaps, on the 15th, you can hear ghosts of the original golfers washing away their rounds - and sold tea for sixpence, with meat costing a shilling. Not much happened on the golf course until 1924, when James Braid surveyed the course and suggested improvements, and then again, in 1950, when the current seventh and eighth holes were created.
Turnhouse Golf Club is a par-69 golf course with a standard-scratch rating of 70 running 6,060 yards. The golf course ranks third for number of par-4 holes longer than 400 yards in the Lothians. Sitting atop Lennie Hill, the golf course offers magnificent 360-degree views: On clear days golfers can glimpse the mountains of the Scottish Highlands (north), the River Forth (east), the Pentland Hills (south) and the old coal bings of Broxburn (west).
In other good news, the Turnhouse Golf Club's clubhouse is no longer a wooden hut; in not-so-good news, the prices of liquids and solids in the bar have gone up.

Great course
Really enjoyed our round. Nice views. Course in good condition
Hilly but attractive course
Nice holes and a good walk with some hills to negotiate. Temporary tee mats and fairway mats were in use and one temporary green when I played. There could be a more obvious marker post on the 3rd on the tee shot as I didn't have a clue where I was supposed to go.
Staff and members were friendly and helpful. Course conditions got that rating only because it’s winter and the greens have had some work done to them but imagine in the summer it would be really good. Would definitely recommend and will probably go back in the summer.
Confusing winter layout and poor greens
Having read the reviews I wanted to try Turnhouse. On arrival the pro shop was shut and there was no information about where to get starter info. Winter greens were in play which were not in great condition. The course had a confusing layout and the winter tees were not clearly signposted between holes. Also winter yardages would be a valuable addition. Otherwise the rest of the course looked ok and I’d be interested to see what it’s like in the summer months as there were some interesting looking holes.
Well constructed
Played the course thinking it would be quite flat being next to the airport - not the case but much less hilly than some of the other Edinburgh courses. Enjoyed the round.
Turned out nice!
First time at this course, very quiet, hilly with lots of interesting holes, quite forgiving if my wayward drives!
I'll be back!
Great course
Played on an extremely windy day but it was sunny and the views around the course were stunning. Course was in really good condition and the greens were pretty true. Some tricky holes esp the 3rd but we enjoyed it
Aggressive possible member ??
The course is great played it many times but on Saturday playing the 18th as a 4 ball we were verbally abused by a member of the club ? On the 17th tee shouting can yous have played the course any slower very aggressively one word led to another .We teed of at 12.35pm and we were playing the 18th at 4.30pm so under 4 hours for a 4 ball I would say is about right. It won't put us off playing the course again but if 4 hours playing a 4 ball is slow please advise !! Kind Regards Alex
