Big greenkeeper no no!
We played this course today as a fourball. We were playing match play 2v2 and were enjoying a tight match when at about the 8th hole the greenkeeper drove out to us in a buggy and asked us to split into 2x two-balls as we were playing too slow. We had let a 2-ball play through and then a single player also, which obviously slowed us down, but we tee’d off at 8:22am and we’re finished our 18 hole round at 11.45am so pretty hard to argue that we were playing slow, especially considering we had let a couple of matches play through.
We told the greenkeeper we wouldn’t split into two groups and continued with our round but it was pretty frustrating to be honest and put a dampener on the day, especially as we felt rushed and as if we were a burden after that.
The course was fine and I have enjoyed playing here previously but not sure we would return to the course now if I’m honest.
2nd trip
Myself and two friends booked RG after a really enjoyable round last week too. We didn’t have as good weather this week, but the course was just as enjoyable to play, particularly 7,8,9 & 10.
Lots of potential at this course, just needs even greater TLC to salvage some greens, and repair some untidy bunkers. As for the actual course as it plays...perfect for a £15 bounce game.
Would highly recommend!
Very good
Very enjoyable course, friendly staff though not easy to follow course as tee boxes not marked
A good, enjoyable course for a beginner.
After playing on council courses, this is a good step up. It's generally well maintained, with no ridiculous rough and nice wide fairways, perfect for beginner and intermediate players.
It's the beginning of the season, and there was some muddy areas on a few holes. On one hole, my friend's ball plugged in the fairway which wasn't ideal, but apart from that it was fine.
One thing I'd mention, there wasn't hole numbers for each hole, so as a first time player, it wasn't always obvious that we were on the correct hole. It's also helpful to have yardage markers at each tee, which was lacking.
I asked for 3 scorecards, but for some reason they only provided 1 per group, which I really don't understand. We paid £15 yet we were not allowed 3 bits of paper?
Overall though, it was very enjoyable and we will be playing again.
Amazing course
This course I’ve played many of times great value for money don’t need to be a member to play this sometimes attracts people who don’t have any care for the course apart from that faultless
Bring Oxygen
Its probably not the best idea to play your first 18 holes in 6 months at Rouken Glen .
Seeing that it was my first form of meaningful exercise in half a year my capacity for scaling the nearly Vertical slopes of the Outward nine turned out to be somewhat lacking.
Knackered by hole 4. The views are spectacular however. Its a course where you'll need good lob wedge skills if you come up short but there are some lovely driving holes too and some elevated tees to tempt you to bomb one onto the green far below. The putting surfaces could do with some TLC but all in all an enjoyable round with plenty par threes thrown in.
I'd advise some high altitude training tho!
