Forget the golf, visit Kinghorn Golf Club for the views. Okay, maybe you don't want to forget the golf altogether, but you'll certainly want to pack a camera along with your golf clubs. Located in Fife, this 18-hole links golf course plays with a backdrop of the Firth of Forth. From the course you can see the Forth Bridge, Edinburgh and its landmarks, and Bass Rock.

The course at Kinghorn Golf Club is 5,166 yards and a par 65. You get tested right away on No. 2, a 219-yard par 3 that's trickier than it looks, what with an uphill shot that's normally straight into the wind. No. 3, another par 3, offers not a metaphoric wall but a literal one. Your tee shot has to clear it and stop on the green.

There are no par 5s at Kinghorn, but maybe there should be. The par 4s waver from the short - a 262-yard sixth that relies on you hitting your drive to the right place and your second shot accurately - and the ridiculously long, like the 462-yard eighth. Here you have to hit it long, but avoid the out of bounds on the left and hold on the sloping fairway.

Eight and No. 13 are generally considered the hardest at Kinghorn Golf Club. Thirteen - nicknamed "Lang Whang" - is a 439-yard par 4. The length is manageable, it's the "hitting into the wind" part that makes it tough. You finish on 18, the menacingly named "Cryin' Hill," a challenging 196-yard par 3.

Kinghorn Golf Club was founded in 1887, making it one of the oldest golf courses in Scotland. Starting as a nine-hole course, the final nine were finalized in 1947.

Challenging with stunning views

A really interesting links course, with ups and downs galore, lots of gorse to lose your ball in, and stunning views over the Forth and out to the North Sea.

Superb value for money

Played here for a wee change From my own course and pleasantly surprised.

For a council course it was in great condition. Greens slow but roll true. Fairways lush and the rough could be punishing.

Highly recommended if you fancy a game on a links course but don’t want to pay the odds for a game.

Great day out on a great course

Just back from a lovely afternoon round of golf at Kinghorn. A course that suits my game - short holes but accuracy needed and lots of variety. Interesting changes in elevation makes for many different types of hole and shots. Fantastic views over the Forth. Very friendly and helpful guy in the starters hut who helped with navigation for the first few holes. Another plus was that it was only 3 hours for a round (playing by myself) and a bargain at £17. Hope to get back there again soon! Thanks!

Great views

Very fun little course.

Greens are small, fast and tough.

Very good conditions.

You'll really struggle to find another course with such fantastic views.

Love it!

Short course, great greens and views

We played in January and off the winter tees so course was shorter than normal but greens were surprisingly fast. First downhill putt rolled off the green!! The course crosses back and forth and I’ve never heard as many fore shouts on a course in my life. Some nice holes, plays like a links course and great views across the Forth to Edinburgh.

Unlikely to be much of a challenge to a low handicap.

Fun golf

It’s always a joy going to play at Kinghorn. It might be short in length but is defended by fast and undulating greens. A fun round of golf with 7 par threes and some driveable par 4s. Playing on a cold November morning the course was busy but we finished in less then 3 hours.

Our Game

We played the course on Tues 13th of Nov at 10am. The weather was excellent windy but sunny. All greens were on apart from one which was the 10th. The course was a different challenge as tees were all moved to the winter ones. Fairways and greens were in excellent condition and as always the course was difficult with the sloping greens that were running true. All in all and excellent day had by our 4 ball and would play regular if stayed closer. The only down side was the bar being closed when we finished at 13:00pm so couldn't go for the traditon of losers but the juice and crisps but hey ho that's how it goes.

We played kinghorn on a damp morning but we still had great fun and thoroughly enjoyed our round.

The starter was very friendly and helpful and despite being on temporary greens due to course maintenance the course was great fun.

It's short on the card but it doesn't play anywhere near as short in reality.

Several holes run up the hill and accuracy rather than power is definitely required!

All in all a great days golf and we will return next time we're in Fife.
