Forget the golf, visit Kinghorn Golf Club for the views. Okay, maybe you don't want to forget the golf altogether, but you'll certainly want to pack a camera along with your golf clubs. Located in Fife, this 18-hole links golf course plays with a backdrop of the Firth of Forth. From the course you can see the Forth Bridge, Edinburgh and its landmarks, and Bass Rock.

The course at Kinghorn Golf Club is 5,166 yards and a par 65. You get tested right away on No. 2, a 219-yard par 3 that's trickier than it looks, what with an uphill shot that's normally straight into the wind. No. 3, another par 3, offers not a metaphoric wall but a literal one. Your tee shot has to clear it and stop on the green.

There are no par 5s at Kinghorn, but maybe there should be. The par 4s waver from the short - a 262-yard sixth that relies on you hitting your drive to the right place and your second shot accurately - and the ridiculously long, like the 462-yard eighth. Here you have to hit it long, but avoid the out of bounds on the left and hold on the sloping fairway.

Eight and No. 13 are generally considered the hardest at Kinghorn Golf Club. Thirteen - nicknamed "Lang Whang" - is a 439-yard par 4. The length is manageable, it's the "hitting into the wind" part that makes it tough. You finish on 18, the menacingly named "Cryin' Hill," a challenging 196-yard par 3.

Kinghorn Golf Club was founded in 1887, making it one of the oldest golf courses in Scotland. Starting as a nine-hole course, the final nine were finalized in 1947.

Never Mind the Golf, Feel the View

Great little course. Some quirky holes. In wonderful condition. Don’t let the length deceive you, we played in a gale and it was tough. Very friendly atmosphere. The lady starter even found a trolley for one of our group to use as the hire ones were locked and her colleague had left with the key by accident. 🤣

Can’t comment on the facilities as it was a Monday and they were closed.

If you’re in the area give it a try, if only for the fact that if you’re having a bad round you can relax and enjoy the views.

Kinghorn in July

First of all many thanks to the lady in the starting box allowing us to tee-off late after we my don and I were stuck in traffic from Edinburgh.

Kinghorn is a great little course with fantastic greens and some very challenging holes. The layout is very hilly with lots of ups and downs but the views of the Firth of Forth are unrivalled in my opinion.

It was a very warm evening and we decided to visit the clubhouse at the 11th tee which was the closest point to top up on liquids. Unfortunately the bar was cash only as their card machine was down. We asked for water to take on the course but the barman refused despite us saying we would pay at the end of the round once we visited the local ATM which was a few hundred yards away in the main street of Kinghorn.

We intended to stay in the clubhouse afterwards for a few beers until my wife picked us up but dedided to give our money to the Central Bar in Kinghorn instead due to the barmans attitude.

A real shame as Kinghorn is a lovely course but one persons attitude can certainly affect the overall experience.

Most fun on a golf course for £22

Friendly welcome, wonderful lunch Had a venison casserole with mash and vegetables which I wasn’t expecting. My wife has smoked haddock with a poached egg. It was excellent and great value. The course is fantastic and in great condition with very quick greens The second over the wall is special. The views are outstanding. Edinburgh looks very close. Berwick Law, Arthur’s Seat and the Forth Bridges from the whole vista I will be back very soon. Credit to @ukgolfguy for the recommendation.

Disappointed with GolfNow

On golf now you could pay £32 if a one or two ball. And £23 for 3 or 4 ball. So we paid £32, but on the day another 2 had been paired up with us who also paid £32. I contacted Golf Now saying as this is now a 4 ball we should all be reimbursed. Golf Now stated it was Kinghorn who were responsible for the fees. I’m sorry but regardless of how the 4 ball is made up we should be paying £23. And clearly Golf Now, who’s app we use and it’s them that can set up the booking procedure to accommodate reimbursement, are clearly not interested. Very disappointed in their response. As for the course, dried out and needing watered. Very hilly for a links. Staff very friendly. But wouldn’t play again.

Ok with big potential

First time playing this course and it was foggy and drizzly the first 6 holes however the views soon opened up. The location and setting of this golf course is incredible which offers the course so much potential but unfortunately it is a fairly average course. Short and manageable for any level of golfer. The tees were a bit of a let down, over grown and not particularly flat. The greens and fairways were nice. The course is compact with little space between each holes resulting in lots of "fore" shouts across the course. I'd love to see the condition improved to match the potential here. Little expensive at £32 for what it was compared to similar priced courses.

Perfect weather
Walked

Great tight links course. Even better views. Fantastic par 3 selection.

Staff and local members all friendly on arrival. and offered tips for the opening holes, which were all quick tight (turns out this info was well needed). Food and drink in the clubhouse was reasonably priced, of good quality and service was very quick.

Course was brilliant condition given the inclement weather we have had recently with very quick greens and well defined fairways- a putt before going out was needed to test get the lay of the land. Practice facilities were in good condition and a welcome sight before a tight links round.

Given the course is short and tight well placed tee shots (and a little local knowledge) is needed for the majority of the holes. The driver did get used on the longer par 4's. It has a fairly unique hole selection where there are no par 5's and 7 par 3's (off the yellows) making for a stern test of tee shot.

Some brilliant views of the Forth estuary from the top of the course.

Perfect conditions and polite patrons.

Loved this course today. I’ve never had the urge to review a course before but this one has impressed me massively. We arrived and worried that the tight little course would mean the driver would be left in the bag, driveable par 4’s and hills on the par 5’s meant that the big stick got a good day out too. The greens were lightening and provided good defence for the course, props to the greenkeepers for keeping these in top condition. The starter was very welcoming and gave us loads of tips and hints about the course while we were on the putting area. I really appreciated his time and it made a great impression at the beginning of the day.

Great Find

After playing off mats on a heavily Parkland course all winter, myself and three friends decided to try a Links course in Fife. He GolfNow deal as too good to turn down. For the time of year the course was in exceptional condition.

The Greens in particular were lightning fast. The Course layout is quirky, but fun! Both the local members we met and the Course staff were friendly and engaging. If you love Golf and fancy a real challenge and treat, have a go. I have played Golf all over the world and I can honestly say you will not find a nicer set up!!

Kinghorn

Winter Tees were in play which usually don't bother me but some of them were really far forward making an already short course very short. So was a bit disappointed

On other hand greens were the fastest iv played on and fairway was nearly as fast,

The course is a real test would like to play again in the summer

Always a pleasure to play this gem

Course was in fantastic condition for the time of year with fast firm greens and challenging holes. I always enjoy playing Kinghorn and for £14 it is an absolute bargain. Starter have a warm welcome and the greens staff were also friendly. We didn’t eat in the clubhouse as had another tee time to get to, but it was busy and catering staff were welcoming. Highly recommend a trip.

Disappointed

Realising the time of year, I was still disappointed in the condition of the course. There is clearly a problem with rabbits and the damage they are causing. Played here as a visitor many times and I think this is the poorest condition I have seen it in.

Also looks like more gorse has been removed, which takes away a bit of colour and a bit of wildlife.

Clearly work needs to be done, but a long process by the looks of it.
