Forget the golf, visit Kinghorn Golf Club for the views. Okay, maybe you don't want to forget the golf altogether, but you'll certainly want to pack a camera along with your golf clubs. Located in Fife, this 18-hole links golf course plays with a backdrop of the Firth of Forth. From the course you can see the Forth Bridge, Edinburgh and its landmarks, and Bass Rock.

The course at Kinghorn Golf Club is 5,166 yards and a par 65. You get tested right away on No. 2, a 219-yard par 3 that's trickier than it looks, what with an uphill shot that's normally straight into the wind. No. 3, another par 3, offers not a metaphoric wall but a literal one. Your tee shot has to clear it and stop on the green.

There are no par 5s at Kinghorn, but maybe there should be. The par 4s waver from the short - a 262-yard sixth that relies on you hitting your drive to the right place and your second shot accurately - and the ridiculously long, like the 462-yard eighth. Here you have to hit it long, but avoid the out of bounds on the left and hold on the sloping fairway.

Eight and No. 13 are generally considered the hardest at Kinghorn Golf Club. Thirteen - nicknamed "Lang Whang" - is a 439-yard par 4. The length is manageable, it's the "hitting into the wind" part that makes it tough. You finish on 18, the menacingly named "Cryin' Hill," a challenging 196-yard par 3.

Kinghorn Golf Club was founded in 1887, making it one of the oldest golf courses in Scotland. Starting as a nine-hole course, the final nine were finalized in 1947.

Fantastic golf course

I posted a terrible score, but it couldn't detract from the amazing experience of playing this course. Stunning views, immaculate course. The most challenging and interesting course I've ever played.

Course is immaculately maintained and is very challenging especially when the wind is blowing. Some criss crossing of fairways which can be a bit disconcerting for first time players but I guess this is to be expected with courses laid out in the early years of golf. Overall a very good course and gets the grey matter working.

Windy day at kinghorn

Great wee course , considering the rain over the last few months it was in great condition. Not that long but in the wind and the fast greens it was challenging. Good food and reasonably priced, staff were very pleasant as well. Unfortunately we were right behind a group of seniors that were slow and did hold us up a bit, but still enjoyed the round in very tricky conditions.

Welcoming and enjoyable round at Kinghorn GC

It was a late booking, and when we arrived we found out that not only were they the only Club out of 7 in the area which was open, but they had been closed for quite a few days in the previous week due to the rain. We were very lucky to not only benefit from the amazing views afforded from the course across to Edinburgh and North Berwick, but also a reasonable pace of play for a course which was pretty crowded due to its unique availability (we were due to play Forfar GC, but it had closed due to overnight rain. For an 1887 course, it has its few quirky holes, a high number of rolling and falling fairways, elevation from top to bottom and we were told by a past Captain we met out on the 15th that in summer the greens were much faster than the pacey full greens we played… so although it’s a shorter course than many nomadic golfers or outings might think is worth considering, you would be very wrong if you think it’s a walk in the park because of this. Great fun, great welcome, great views and a course that seems to shirk the after effects of bad weather when all around are mopping-up their greens. Highly recommended.

Course was in good condition considering the time of year and the recent weather issues . Course quite tight in places with a few crossing fairways.

Would recommend giving it a go .

Some holes have excellent views over the forth estuary.

Very enjoyable day .

Unbelievable Value

Best value for money course I have played considering it’s only £14!

Winter tees and fairway mats in play which is expected at this time of year. Some tees are mats and some are just forward. Greens in excellent condition and a good mix of long and short holes.

Would highly recommend for the price (less than £1 per hole!!)

Last minute booking and glad i went

Up visiting family in the area and had a booking at Dunnikier which got closed just as I arrived there but the helpful pro said there was a spot a Kinghorn if I wanted him to move it over to there. 20 mins later arrived to a friendly starter and played with 2 of the members. Cracking course in good condition considering the recent weather and a great mornings knock. Short but testing and a nice variety of holes. Would have probably struggled with the course layout if it wasn't for the members but was a great morning, good course, good crack and will head back next time im up for sure. Would love to play it again in the spring/summer. Cheers Billy and Kenny 👌🏽

Not a links course!

We were looking for a day out and some relief from soggy underfoot conditions so decided a links course would fit the bill. It started badly when we realised there was no club catering on a Thursday for some reason! Then, despite the website assuring full greens in play etc, there were several winter greens and they insisted on us using fairway mats which contradicted their guidance that this wouldn’t happen until after the end of November. Several of the holes crossed each other, it was hilly, waterlogged in places, and had no sandy base - so didn’t meet links expectations. On the plus side, the views were stunning. Disappointed and we wouldn’t play it again.

Great wee course with super friendly staff

A great course to test your skill. Was very windy when we played which added to the challenge. The men’s 18 th tee block is still being talked about!!! Thanks to the wonderful lady in the office who made us feel welcome and explained the layout so we wouldn’t get lost! The bar was closed on the day we played which was a shame but the recommendation for Tornado Bagels was well worrh it. Highly recommend both Kinghorn Golf Club and Tornado Bagels 😃👍
