Skylinks Golf Course

I have always enjoyed Skylinks and I did today as well. I hadn’t played there since before the changes made to hole # 4. The changes made give the hole an entirely different look and feel. I like the change. I couldn’t figure out if there were any changes to the 5th hole too. I just know it looked and felt different. The greens ran slower but given the recent aeration, that was understandable. They rolled true. The one issue I had was that the tee boxes had not been cut in who knows how many days. It just made teeing off challenging, particularly on par threes.

Overall the course was fairly easy. Fairways and restaurant were nice, but that is where it ended for the positives. Food was well cooked and tasty, fairways were well manicured and rough was non-existent. Bunkers were relatively nice too.

Tee Boxes - looked like my backyard after not being mowed for 2 weeks. - Grass was way to high to be considered tee box. Looked more like rough.

Greens - fuzzy and very bumpy, because they looked like they were just punched about a week ago. Rolling them and cutting them would improve their conditions substantially.

When hitting the range - required to hit off mats. Driving range was STUFFED and you had to wait for an open slot. Once you got one if you didn't know it you needed to bring your own rubber tees or buy one. No one in the clubhouse said anything about this. Also you were required to hit off the mats.

Normally this course is decent on pace of play. But the new management company is doing an awful job since they took over. Too many groups go out. Tournaments that play horrifically slow and won’t speed up.

Today we made it through 3 holes in 1 hour. Every hole is a 15 minute wait to play. All because of a tournament of men aged 70-90 that is insanely slow. Averaging 3-4 groups per hole behind the last tournament group who has 2 wide open holes in front of them.

They need to start enforcing pace of play

Fairway conditions were fair for the most but greens were punched marks for aeration recently.

Course was in good shape. The greens are about a week away from being good to great. It was 20 years since the last time I played here and didn’t really remember much but I would definitely consider coming back to play. I liked the layout. Walkable as well.

Greens were being aerated and I wasn’t notified til I was in the pro shop. No discount was given. Greens were impossible to putt on!

Gotta play Skylinks it’s a gem in south LA County. One of my favs.

Great day at Skylinks. The only not great thing was they started 20 minutes early before I got there:( Fairways, rough and greens were in very good shape. Greens running around 10- very fast above the home. The traps were a little crispy but most likely the recent rains firmed them up. Pace of play was just over 4 hours.
