POP 5Hrs+ Short game area is destroyed. Why are we playing extra for this place?
Why is Griffith Park considered more in price than Encino? The layout? The location? The history?
Because the conditions are way better at Encino. Encino’s short game area is really good. Sure, the bunker areas at any of the city courses are sad, but at least the short game chipping area at Encino is really good. So why is Wilson’s short game area as sad as somebody’s armpit low end country bumpkin poor man’s muni???? It’s so sad!!!
The Pace of Play today was over 5 hours after lunch. Sure it’s a Friday, and there are lots of people out there but it got stacked with 3 groups on Hole 3, and again on Hole 8!!!! Why????? How is that even possible???? And nobody came out to move people along. Having said that the group behind us was a hole behind also, I have no idea how people can play so slowly. Just play ready golf, and move along!!! You’re not a Pro!!!
They punched the greens a month ago!!!! And some of them looked like they weren’t even punched!!!! What is it with the weird splotches all over some of them??? Some of them looked like they have some kind of weird spotted animal pattern to them, not from the punch holes but from the grass seeds failed to sprout or something. They looked like they need to be punched again.
Some of the tees are dead or lumpy, and it’s like this every year, and is mind blowing how they can never fix it or make and attempt to fix it. 4 tee is trashed!!!
So what are we being charged extra for????? Why should we pay more for Wilson than Encino???
Recently they asked us to do a Questionnaire about what to do with Encino/Balboa/Woodley in the Sepulveda Dam basin. Well, if you can’t even take care of Griffith Park, with the extra you’re charging, what are you asking us about????
It’s the same issues EVERY YEAR!!!!
Such a fine shining example of what is the typical disaster that is public city-run institution that is Parks and Rec in LA.
Stay Away
This course has fallen into shameful conditions. Greens were punched weeks ago and have mostly healed, but for some reason greens still shaggy. I am not exaggerating when I say they were running at a 5 on the stimpmeter, it got to the point where once I hit the green I picked up because putting was pointless.
The Koreans can have it, they have basically taken this place over anyways. The cart barn attendant literally spoke to me in Korean when I picked up and dropped off the cart. Bizarre.
Playing wilson soon?
Greens are rough rn wait.. its not worth it.. bumpy as hek
since punching.. i would book thos in may by then the greens have recovered
DO NOT PLAY THIS COURSE
I know it's considered a muni but they have to be better. Giving golfers no warnings about just recently punching greens and then expecting us to pay full price and not offering a refund is just low class and absurd. If you like putting on sand then please play here. I would recommend staying away for at least a month.
Be aware and stay away, unplayable greens
While I understand that all courses need maintenance and typically takes sometime to recover, the lack of communication by the staff and the city is really frustrating.
There were no warnings online for pre booking, the pro shop starters didn’t acknowledge this upon check in and there were no signs on the course. Our group pulled up to the first green covered in sand and this continued throughout the rest of the 18 holes. It appeared the greens had just been punched yesterday and were completely unplayable.
We tried reaching out to the pro shop after the 1st hole for at least a rain check or refund and they mention tee times are non refundable. Charging full price under these conditions felt unreasonable and at minimize this should have be communicated ahead of time or priced accordingly.
Bad....
Today has been an absolute disaster. We were told we had to share a golf cart with a complete stranger; furthermore, we were informed that if we wished to ride alone, we would have to pay an additional fee equivalent to a second person's fare. The second issue concerns the condition of the greens: despite having undergone renovation, the amount of sand on them is practically at the level of a beach. I believe it is only right that you share at least a minimum amount of information to provide advance notice regarding such matters. I request that you fully acknowledge these two specific issues and provide a resolution. In particular, I would appreciate it if you could clarify whether unilaterally mandating that customers share a golf cart with a stranger is, in fact, legally permissible.
DO NOT PLAY NEXT WEEK OR SO
Ridiculous conditions of greens. Aerating the greens but also putting 2-3" of sand covering all every inch of green. Putting is non existent. Hit a normal 40' ft putt and it'll go 10' max. Unbelievable that they would open the course, charge normal rates and cover the greens in sand. Never seen anything like this ever.
The course was in great shape and pace of play was great for this course. Usually crowded and slow but played in 4:20 !!
Great Layout!
Greens were a bit damaged by the winter and geese. But a really nice course with great views and solid pace of play.
great course
Wilson i a great public course. nice layout with some real challenges.
some greens were a little worn out but overall very firm and fast.
holes along the freeway are not as pleasant because of noise.
GREAT BANG FOR YOUR BUCK ON A HISTORICAL COURSE
Had a 1215 tee time for a time of year that's starting to go towards more daylight.
The practice facilities are what you would anticipate for Muni. Double decker driving range with limited distance as there's a nearby Street and the course is in the middle of one of the nation's most well known Parks.
The course has a surprisingly challenging layout for a municipal course. It is somehow very walkable but also has some interesting changes in elevation on a number of holes. Navigating the course requires well thought approaches into the green along with greens that require rolling the ball on a steady line. The greens themselves could use some TLC but overall are on par with a municipal course.
As someone from Orange County, it was a bit of a trek getting there but well worth the price for a hot deal for Sunday at noon with a cart for around 60 bucks. Would highly recommend and would definitely want to play again as well!
