Shorecliffs Golf Club
About
Shorecliffs Golf Course wanders through the coastal canyons and valleys of San Clemente, heading towards the beautiful shoreline. Situated just steps from the ocean, the course enjoys cool ocean breezes and a temperate climate, which makes it a year-round haven for golfers. Its location also provides the golf course with plenty of scenic ocean views. The course features narrow fairways tightly lined with trees and small greens bordered by sand bunkers. The front nine is shorter and requires more accuracy than the longer, wider back nine. Shorecliffs opens with one of the trickiest par-5s in the area. This dogleg left hole features trouble both left and right. Although the layout does offer a fair challenge, players of all skill levels will feel comfortable taking on the golf course.

Golfer Reviews
Good budget friendly course for south OC
Only played the back 9 on a monday morning. I’ve only been playing for about 8mo so this was very nice for me. Fairways were nice with a few spotty areas, greens were well kept. Grounds keepers, maintenance, and landscapers do a wonderful job. There was some construction along one of the paths but that is understandable it will look nice in the future.
Much better experience than 2 years ago
Narrow but interesting course with ups & downs. Clean and new cart was equipped with bottle of water, towels and tees. The pro shop people were very nice. The glass condition was much better than before.
Great Round
This course has improved dramatically since I last played here. The course is still tight & there is plenty of room for improvement. However, we had an amazing time! Give this course another look & enjoy the upgraded club house & spectacular customer service.
It's been many years since I have played this course. They have spent $$$ and upgraded the club house, parking and landscape some of the areas around the course, but the tee boxes and the fairways are in the same very poor conditions they were 20-30 years ago. When it was just $16 - $20 to play
In short they made the place look better but did nothing to improve the course or play at all.
Actually the new design which reversed the direction ( you now start in what was whole 10) and the downsizing of some of the wholes and also eliminating other wholes has made this course worse for a true player.
So if what you want is a very nice bar area, nice club house and dont care about the condition or design of the course. You may like it.
Otherwise and as far as I can see they spent a lot of money; more than double the rates for simply "Putting lip stick on a PIG".
Its not worth the price even with a HOT Deal Discount from Golf NOW
Nice course now that most work is complete
Have played Shorecliffs for 3 decades. The remodel and clubhouse and amenities are very well done.
Like playing this course, good pace of play.
Weekend golf
Pace was good for a weekend, the layout has interesting holes that are fun to play, greens for the most part were in great shape. Staff is great.
Early start to the day with a Birdie
Birdie first hole so all went well. We were 1st off and played 1st 9 in 80 mins. Then got clogged on the back 9 with the 9 hole only players. Backn9 took 2 hrs. Course in fine shape and all staffers were awesome.
Poor green and fairway conditions
Really this course is not worth the money and really not worth the damage to your clubs muddy course rocks on the edge of the fairway. Overall, I've never been satisfied when I play here. It's usually one of the only courses open last minute and I can tell you after playing here multiple times I regret it every single time.
Punched Greens No Communication!
A friend of mine and I played this course just 3 days prior and had a good time. Pace of play was slow on that day but we still had a good time.
I was back in the area with some colleagues and we wanted to get in a round before work so I recommended to play ShoreCliffs. BIG MISTAKE!
We arrived to be informed that we could only play the back nine twice because they were punching the greens on the front nine. Not ideal but we couldn’t get a refund and we were already there and couldn’t play anywhere else.
Not only were the greens punched but they had been too dressed with so much sand that you couldn’t even put. Most of the greens you couldn’t even see green grass and the sand had wood chips in it so they were all over the green. You could see foot print impressions in the sand and when you putted you could not only see the path your ball took, but it was like trying to putt on the beach. Very frustrating.
Some of the bunkers were actually flooded with water and the fairways were soaked and puddling.
Not only that, we don’t even see the beverage cart girl until we were approaching 17 green.
If we had known the greens had just been punched and were that bad we would have NEVER booked there. And eve after that, for the lack of concern or appreciation from the staff made matters worse. No willingness to even try to appreciate golfers for being out there in those conditions.
I took several pictures but cannot see anywhere to upload them to this review. I hope GolfNow will follow up.
Greens Punched
We didn't know they had punched and sanded the greens and was taking tee times. The greens were sanded heavily; making putting impossible. Half way through we stopped putting. They should let you know that they greens are mot playable before paying money.
Very disappointed Hope Golf now will follow up with me!
I booked and played this course just 3 days ago and had a nice experience so I recommended this course to a few friends to play with me today. WHAT A MISTAKE!!!
We showed up to check in and were told that the front9 was closed and we would have to play the back 9 twice and they had just punched and too dressed the greens. The front desk guy said “this is ok right?” Seeing as were there to tee off we didn’t have much of a choice. But, this would be very helpful to have posted prior to booking a tee time as we would have searched elsewhere.
We thought how bad could it be? AWFUL!!! The greens were like the beach! Some greens you couldn’t even see the grass and everywhere you stepped left foot prints and after putting you could see your ball track. There were also cedar chips all over the green and any out, besides not going anywhere, hopped and bounced all over the green. It was embarrassing!
Again, had this been disclosed we would have found a different course but we felt stuck as we would not have found a tee time elsewhere. We took time off of work for this and it was not very enjoyable.
I have attached a couple of photos. Just FYI, these pictures are not of the worst greens but the average look.
Better disclosure is needed!
