Needs a haircut
I’m a fan of this course but......needs a haircut and bunkers are not full of sand, generally everything could do with a trim
Worst course I ever played
Greens like fairways no markings could not find way round only played 8 holes then give up
Great course needs TLC
I really enjoy playing this course, weather was kind and the food was brilliant. Only criticism, greens are not in great shape, too many bumps and jumps on the balls journey to the cup. Saying that, to get out playing in the current pandemic is gratefully received.
Down royal golf
Greens were a bit shaggy and slow was tempted to take a wedge to some of the longer putts. No signage from greens to next tee meant a lot of time looking for next hole. But all in all a fun but tricky layout. Would play again now that I know my way around it.
Poor condition
Greens are very slow. Rough just off the Fairway very thick loose balls very eaisly
Good enough
Played this course just before lockdown and it was in a terrible state played it again after lockdown and it has changed rapidly.
All in good condition except the tee boxes. Very uneven under foot. All in all ok course
Great course
I had played Down Royal before but it was about 20 years ago so it was like playing a new course.
The course is about 20 minutes drive outside Belfast and sits in the middle of Down Royal racecourse. The course is just over 6000 yards from the green tees.
We teed off after 1.30 and it took about 4 hours to play. The course is beautifully maintained and the greens just on the slower side of average. The fairways are generous and the par 5s are excellent. It has some beautiful set par 3s. The course has plenty of water just off the fairways so straight driving is a premium.
After the course we called in to the clubhouse for some food and a beer and both were good, so no complaints there.
The course also has a driving range on site if you fancy hitting a few balls to warm up and it was £2.50 for a small basket.
Lovely course which I would recommend
Good for the winter
Handy course for me, is very good for winter as it drains well. Wind can get up as its so open. Stay in fairway and ul be fine, fairway itself was long but can be expected in winter. 4 ball ahead of my 2 ball whole way until 14th hole or so then they finally let us through. Slow play Can be an issue sometimes. Great value for money at only 12 pound
