Avoid!

This course is in poor shape — especially when the ground is damp. The course was boggy, with no evidence of fairways: the ground vegetation consisted of long grass and greens — nothing in between. On one hole my first two shots produced two lost balls; they landed on the ‘fairway’, but were lost forever on account of the tall grass. I heard similar complaints from other players.

It seemed quite an upmarket club, with a BT9 address. The car park was full: most of the vehicles were driven by elderly people heading there for lunch, not golf.

The land was sold to developers for housing, so they don’t aeem to be maintaining the place as they should.

Waste of money.

Nice layout, poor condition

Played 18 holes in April. Granted, our winter and early spring weather has been atrocious, but I was pretty disappointed in the course conditions. Fairways very soft and grass very long - difficult to tell where rough ended and fairways started. Presumably they haven't been able to get their big mowers over the fairways because of the wet weather. Doubt they'll be investing in drainage any time soon given they're planning to sell the land to property developers.

It was a nice, if unspectacular layout for a suburban course, but I wouldn't recommend playing here unless it's been dry in the lead-up.

I really enjoyed my round at Balmoral

I really enjoyed my round at Balmoral, the staff and members were very friendly, letting me play through whenever I caught up with groups as a solo golfer. The holes were a little basic but I enjoyed the layout of the par 3s on the back nine, the course is also very easy to walk with minimal hills. I would recommend this course if you can get one of the deals for it, but otherwise I think £50 a round is a little steep during the day for this course.

Unacceptable pace of play

I was playing a 2 ball today (30th august) and the front 9 was free and empty resulting in enjoyable golf. However, I don’t know if this 3 ball of ladies just started at 10 or if we just didn’t see them the entire time on the front (if you’ve ever played here it’s unlikely you don’t see them) but they proceeded to not only hold our 2 ball up but also a 2 ball behind us and a single. It was completely unacceptable and just pure and utter ignorance from the 3 of them. It took us just under 2 hours to play 6 holes and by this point all three groups had had enough and walked off the course. (Complete joke). According to the group behind us one of the women was the women’s captain (if this is true god help the club). I have never encountered fellow golfers with as much ignorance to not let groups through. Safe to say I will not be back at this course which is a shame as the staff in the pro shop are very friendly and if you get a good tee time on golf now it is good value.

Course Half Closed

Unfortunately I used one of my Golf Now Passes , disappointingly the back 9 of the course was closed and I feel like I didn’t not get the value for money. Also most fairways were bogged or hard to get sure footing for many shots. Staff were down to Earth and apologetic about the conditions but I feel there’s a need for more of a connection between the course and Golf Now as I paid far too much for a round which was severely hampered by poor ground and 9 holes unopened.

Fantastic course.

I've played here twice since moving up to Belfast with work. So I been playing as many courses I can. Balmoral is so far the best I've played so far. Great lay out, Some great holes throughout and I really love the 18th. Great looking finishing hole.

Only dropped it a star for condition because it is oct and the rain had been falling all week but even then it was holding up OK.

Work 3 Ball

Nice day although course conditions were heavy under foot, but understandable given the so called summer we’ve had.

Pace of play on front 9 was slow and it wasn’t helped by 2 x walk ons who mysteriously appeared on the 2 nd green between us and the 4 ball who tee’d off before us.

Funny when we got to hole 10 they had disappeared - too close to the club house I suspect.

All in all a good day though.
