Excellent winter course. Needs more directional markers to tee boxes, especially the 1st to the 2nd hole.
Windy and challenging
I had the freedom of down royal, windy and challenging but played well,
Outstanding Value
Although this isn’t the most picturesque course in the greater Belfast areas, what it lacks of visuals is made up for in value for money and playability. All par threes are easily within reach of your average club golfer and even the par 5s are birdie opportunities for 20+ cappers. If you are looking for a fun scorable course then this is the one for you. The added meal deal is perfect as the food is spot on for the price.
Course condition
Appreciate dry spell and then recent rain however noneakws in bunkers, no sign to next tee, no excuse
Down Royal Golf Cource
course was in excellent condition only complaint we had was a 5 ball in front of us that were very slow
Always come back
Best round of golf to date, really enjoyed my game, fist pump a few times,as I say always come back to play at down royal
Pace of Play
An absolutely stunning day ruined by some of the worst golf etiquette and pace of play I have ever had the unfortunate experience to witness. Stick behind a 3 ball for 5 of the 13 holes we managed to play in 3 1/4 hrs and they point blank refused to acknowledge we were even there never mind let us play through. Not sure how they managed to get around 18 holes considering the sheer volume of balls they apparently lost. Spoke with the pro shop who were less than interested also. I WILL NOT BE BACK!
Great course for tee shots
Lots of par 4,for me starting off always enjoy challenge par 4/5 and 18 holes stay open other courses in bad weather or weekend cut down to 9 holes
Starting to enjoy this course
This course scared me at first now starting to enjoy
Excellent winter golf venue
Possibly the best drained course we've ever played, greens in excellent condition too for the time of year, made for a thoroughly enjoyable round for the three of us, will definitely be back.
torrential rain - no problem!!
We played this course a week after hurricane Ophelia and days of torrential rain. Most courses in the area were closed due to flooding, but because of the brilliant drainage Down Royal can stay open all year round.
Course is of moderate difficulty but in the breezy conditions can be a real challenge. I have no hesitation in recommending the course, especially in damp conditions

This place is real nice to play. It is good for beginners and experanced. They just need signs to show the next tee . Try it.
VALUE
Love playing here. Course has improved immensely over the past few years. recommended to any handicap.
Good wee course just 15 mins from Belfast
Very friendly staff and members
Course looked to be having a bit of work done on rough areas / bunkers but not to the detriment of the experience
Not the longest course but challenging enough and in very pleasant surroundings
Not too busy despite it being a Saturday morning although that may have been due to the rain showers!
Worth a visit and would return
Very open course.
Staff very friendly and helpful.
Course and greens in great condition...
Great layout to the course!
I've played this course before and enjoyed it so thought why not again!
Staff couldnt have been any friendlier and helpful.
Course was in great shape, green's where in great nick and quick, layout of the course is set up well to make it a good challenging course.
Would recommend to anybody to at least play it once and see for themsleves but i know i'll play it again and you cantbeat, espeically at weekends.
Down royal
I have played this course on many occasions and have enjoyed it, yesterday though was a different story, apart from being stuck behind a golf society which took 5 hrs for our round, the greens were very bumpy, uneven and inconsistent, I basically used the round to brush up on driving and approach play. Might come back in the summer when greens improve.
