Improvements
Haven’t played here in awhile due to poor conditions...today pleasantly surprised. Teeboxes and fairways in excellent shape (some bare spots in fairways but not bad). Greens rolled very well and in much better shape than before. An effort is being made. The bunkers as before were very poor. The layout of the course is terrific, not a boring hole on the entire course. This course can be one of the best around. If the owners understand this I’m not sure. Fix the bunkers, proper manicuring and you’ll get great reviews and a ton of play. There are a lot of golfers in this area who would join on a regular basis if there is a true commitment. I’m a 3 handicap and really appreciate the potential. This is a gem waiting to happen!
It was golf!
My experience at this course was good. Even though I played horrible the course was fun to play. You can tell they are trying to make improvements to the course as some greens need work and the tee boxes too. I was happy to play the course and the staff was really nice. I read they are under new management and it seems to be working. will play the course at a later date to see if it is better.
Not too bad!!!
Course was in pretty good shape. Greens were receptive, quick and smooth. Fairways were good. You really need to take a free drop out of the bunkers. Other than that, I’d play there again. Definitely worth the price!!!
Don't bother
I think they should be ashamed to charge $45 for a round. The greens are in bad shape, most of them have bare spots. Forget about the bunkers, they were either dry clay as hard as cement or filled with water. I hit two bunkers and couldn't find my ball in them due to standing water. Even on a lot of the tee boxes it was hard to find a decent place to tee it up. We had a lot of rain the day before so I can kind of forgive the standing water, but even without rain the bunkers would have been all clay.
Poor Condition
This course from a layout standpoint has great potential. Unfortunately it horrible condition as it looks like it has a course wide fungal or mold problems that caused huge bare spots. One green was totally closed and the alternate green was uncut.
Course Headed Downhill
Only payed $32 to play there on Sunday afternoon (7/22). Now I know why. As previously noted, pace of play was excellent as there were very few on the course. Several tee boxes were dirt and most of the greens had significant bald spots. Also, the greens were covered in unrepaired ball marks. They looked like the greens at Knight's Play. The fairways in pretty good shape although one of them looked they had only mowed the right side of it. The bunkers were in bad shape. Several had standing water from the rains the night before and several others had weeds growing in them. They supposedly rebuilt the bunkers a few years ago but you can't tell. The driving range, chipping green, and putting greens were in good shape though. This was a good course once upon a time. You get what you pay for I guess. It's now out of our rotation.
Eh
Pace of play was great because no one was out there. The course is in pretty bad shape. Greens are not punched, but they are also not covered with grass, so you'll definitely find patches that make it extremely difficult to putt through. Several tee boxes were pretty much bare. The fairways were okay, but off the fairway you'll certainly find hardened dirt with clumps of grass. Don't even ask about the bunkers. Suffice it to say, you don't want your ball in them. But, hey, when you pay only $25 for green fee plus cart, it's kind of what you'd expect...
Monday 7/9
Great value for the price. i knew the course would be dry as it is July and with no irrigation to the fairway, it is quite thin. Greens spotty but rolled quite well despite little grass
Excellent Value
Falls Village is a great local course for players who have the proper expectations. Of course the conditions are not great, (btw Hasentree has dead greens), but for $25-$45, she’s a great local value. The staff is friendly, the bar manager is top notch, and the members seem to really enjoy themselves.
Again, a fun spot to play, but if you are a golf snob, go elsewhere and pay accordingly.
Avoid for a couple months
I've played this course a few times now and this was the absolute worst I have ever seen it. The greens are in terrible shape with bare spots all over them. There wasn't a single putt that wasn't affected by some sort of imperfection in the green. Fairways were patchy and not well kept and I literally teed off from dirt on one par 3 as there was no grass to be seen on the tee box. Thankfully I didin't have to play out of the "bunkers" that were really just pits of clay with rocks in them. Sounds like the weather has just slammed this course but I would still give it a couple months for it to recover before coming back. Definitely not worth the price as it is right now and not even sure if I would waste $20 on this course before choosing another one.
The course is in horrible shape
I’ve played this course many times over the years and every time I go go back it seems to be in worst shape than the previous time. The tee boxes in most cases were bare, the fairways had bear spots all over and the sand traps have been abandoned with weeds and mud.
The green fees are too high for what’s being offered, I definitely will stay away for the rest of the year.
Good Value
Course in good shape, pace of play was excellent and overall a good round.
Course in rough shape
Course was in real bad shape. Place isn’t well managed anymore. I won’t go back
What a mess
Falls Village continues to be the trash course of The Raleigh/Durham area. The greens are a disaster, many have more dead grass than live, although it does look like they’re making an effort to fix them now. The fairways are in decent shape but you can see that they are not being watered and are dying off in areas. The tee boxes are also dying off, many are more dead than alive. The bunkers are just dirt, and some are filled with mud and/or standing water. It’s cheap though, and the layout could be really fun if the could find some money to invest in fixing it up.
Stay Away
Course is in horrible condition. Bunkers are nothing but packed down dirt, weeds everywhere, sparse grass in fairways, tees are overgrown and badly groomed and the greens were terrible. The greens were slow, badly maintained and thin in many places. Maintenance crew was working on some holes and never bothered to yield to players or stop while we waited to hit shots. Service was terrible in the pro shop and at the bar. Avoid this place and save your money.
Not a good value
This place is a $25 course. Not $45. No sand in the bunkers. Tee boxes are balder than Mr Clean and greens are bumpy.
Meh
Love the course layout, but man o man the Greens are in rough shape. They were super soft, super slow, slightly overgrown and needing some work in some places. Most sand traps aren't traps anymore. They're little ecosystems with standing water for tadpoles and such. Fairways/rough were in decent shape, but around the greens need some TLC.
