Horrible Greens, Traps and Fairways - Don't play here
Almost every green is missing grass. Lots of mud instead of grass.
The tee boxes are in poor shape.
There is little to no sand - you could break a wrist in those bunkers.
The staff was very nice and the food was ok @ the turn.
It's a challenge
The fairways are narrow with a lot of doglegs which make club choice important. The greens were recently aerated and were not the best causing rough and bumpy conditions.
Great value
I travel a lot so decided to give this course a shot. Other reviews were spot on save for the fact that they had just (within the past five days) aerated. None of the reviews mentioned it nor did GN have it listed on the tee time 'announcements'. When you have to clear off the aeration plugs from the tee box and fairways to address your ball it's disappointing to find that out AFTER you commit to play.
The staff and course were otherwise excellent.
I appreciate that they have to do course maintenance in order to keep things in shape but I think GN dropped the ball on this one.
Sand traps
Sand traps are mud pits with no sand. Directions to 10th hole poorly marked
Fun layout. Challenging, but playable.
Falls Village is a nice layout, with a courteous staff. The front nine was being aerated, so we played the back twice. It was still a lot of fun. The fairways could use some cutting, but overall a good day of golf.
Good layout not so good condition
Course is in need of some attention. Layout is nice and the course has potentio but the conditions are fair. Bunkers filled with water where I actually lost a ball in one. Greens were recently punched and not in the best condition. Course is in need of some care.
Potential To Be A Good Track
Course definitely has the potential to be a really good track. Range is in mediocre shape at best, but adequate to do the job. The fairways were punched recently and the grass hasn't grown back in, so there are quite a few spots that have little to no grass. They're rock hard at the moment, so if you're looking to throw up a record driving distance, this place is the place to do it. Went 380 on #9 and only had an 8 iron in to a 540-yd par 5. The greens are another story. I understand that it's been extremely hot lately and the crew has to keep them long and damp in order to keep them alive, but good grief. They were not in good shape. Some of it wasn't the course's fault, i.e. people not fixing divot marks, but they were so slow it was like putting on shag carpet. Only good thing was that they were soft, so it was easy to go after the flags. As the rest of the reviews state, the bunkers are god-awful. Unless you're in a fairway bunker, where the lack of sand is a blessing, just pull your ball out and hit from the rough. Overall, it's not a bad course. When the temps go back under 90, I'm sure the grounds crew can speed the greens back up. I love playing on fast bentgrass greens, but it might be time to switch to either Champions or Mini Verde, Falls Village.
Good course in a nice wooded setting
Have only played a few times but it has been good each time. The staff is very friendly and the course is fun to play.
Greatly improved conditions except traps
Use the range here all the time because you hit off grass and its close to my house. Have not played the course in a couple of years as the conditions were usually poor and POP was so slow. Got a hot deal yesterday for $25 and played as a single. 3 hrs for 18 was great. Equally impressive was the conditions of tee boxes, fairways, and greens. MUCH improved. Only downer were the traps. As other reviews have said they are flat out terrible. One of my balls is somewhere in a "pond" that exists in one trap, couldn't fish it out. I know traps are expensive to maintain, but something has to be done. At least fix the ones near the green and maybe make the fairway bunkers grass. Since I only went into one trap overall it was a good experience and now I have a close option to play golf.
Cheaper at the Course
Golfnow charged 33.25 plus convenience fee to play ... the course was only charging 25 dollars to play. I recommend calling ahead to see what the course charges before using golfnow. This would have saved $10.
Fun to play
Like the design agree that traps need work Greens are good
Greens in great shape!
The Greens were in great shape. They were a little spongy and speed of putts was slower than the appearance of greens would have you believe. Very satisfied with overall condition! Grounds crew look to be improving the bunkers as many of them are washed out, one has become a pond on the back nine. Will come back! Pleasantly surprised.
Canadian golfer here...
wonderful course except for greens.... they weren't. Greens best described as camouflaged. Very dry and burnt.
Making progress
Falls Village I realize that reworking #18 must have been an expensive endeavor but please put some sand in the traps. Great layout, greens rolled nicely but you need sand. My recommendation... increase your price to $35 and fund it.
Nice layout, needs some TLC
Nice layout with some interesting holes. Helpful to play with someone familiar with the course if it is your first time here. Greens are average, a few have some bad spots. Fairways good. Traps are horrible. Either put in more sand or fill them in and make grass bunkers. You cannot play out of any of the bunkers.
The problem is the bunkers.
This is a nice public course, close to my home. I play it often. I wish I could give it a better review but there is a problem with it's bunkers (and there are a lot of them). They don't seem to contain sand. Just hardpan dirt, mud or standing pools of water. They are not playable so you have to decide how you are going to handle them on your scorecard. Possibly as ground under repair, but they don't seem to be getting repaired. Other than that the course is nice. It does have some relatively challenging holes and if that is intentional then it is good. If they were design mistakes, then not so good. With a great pace of play on the weekdays I would recommend this course for a quick round especially if you can get a good price in the $25 range. The staff there are very nice. One other note: the clubhouse has a small bar but does not provide food.
Good Value
The fairways are great! Most of the greens are good... there are a few bad greens but playable. The sand traps are empty of sand and full of wet clay. Tee Boxes could use some grooming. Great Layout... and somewhat challenging.. alot of Dog Leg Lefts! Par 3's are fairly short and easy. Overall layout is great... and since they are not asking for arm and legs in pricing; it is a great value compared to other courses in the area. The snack bar was closed at the turn... for the day.. 3:30 pm... could not buy any drinks because the cooler was locked and the counter person in pro shop did not have a key.
Improved Conditions
Last played early March. Fairways are firm, fast but plenty of grass. All the greens are very good except for #'s 4 and 5. The greens are way better than my last visit here. Greens are a little furry but they roll well.
The sand traps....mud traps would better describe them....are a joke. They have to be played as Ground Under Repair.
Great layout, just need to fix the drainage in the traps and add some new sand.
Good play for $20.
