Desert Springs Resort has a longstanding reputation as a luxury resort that offers something for everyone. There are two championship golf courses that sprawl across beautifully landscaped grounds covered with lush vegetation and sparkling lagoons, providing a scenic oasis amidst the desert surroundings. From nearly every hole at the resort, golfers can enjoy panoramic views of the Coachella Valley and Santa Rosa Mountains. Water is the most prominent feature of both golf courses. Between the two of them, over 35 acres of water features come into play. The Palms Course is the slightly more challenging layout of the two, but both are accessible to players of all skill levels. The layout features well guarded greens, thick rough and towering palm trees bordering the holes. It has a memorable finishing stretch that starts with an island par-3 on the 17th and finishes with a tricky dogleg par 4 with water all along the left side.

Not set up well

I have played this course many times over the last couple of years and today it was not set up well or in great condition which is a shame. It can be a very nice course, but while it's set up as it currently is and the greens and bunkers are in there currentl conditiion I would spend the $100 - $130 and play Desert Willow right across the road, which I played the day before. It's in great condition.

The greens were very fast and hard, which is fine, but not when they are bumpy and the fairway in front of the greens is soft and not rolling up. They looked like they had some fungus issues and had not fully recovered.

The fairways were nice and consistent if not a little soft. There were a couple of wet spots from sprinklers.

This meant you struggled to stop on the green. You could not play short as you didn't roll forwad, but if you hit the green you bounced 8 feet high and off the back. My playing partner and myself (4 index and 8 index) while waiting for the hole ahead to clear (very slow group) hit 8 balls in from 105 yards, 4 landed 2 - 3 yards short of the green and didn't make it, the other 4 landed 0.3 - 3 yards on the green. Only the one that landed 1 foot on stayed on the green and that was still a 30 foot down hill put to th front pin. Very poor setup on the course. Hard greens = hard fairways, play short. Soft greens = soft fairways, play the pin.

The bunkers were a disgrace. No rakes because of Covid (Really - most other course have returned them now) meant foot prints as deep as 4 - 6 inches. The face's were deep sand which caused your ball to plug while the bottom was hard packed wet sand, bette described as mud. I hit off at 7:52 am and on the 14th and 16th hole, 4 hours later I had standing water in the bunkers despite the temperature being 90+. To be honest I have seen better bunkers at a central valley muni course and they only charge $15 a round.

The surrounds of the bunkers also looked unkept on some (15%) of the bunkers, like native grass and sand for 2 - 3 yards in some spots. Not sure what is the deal here, but it looked cheap.

Once on the greens any put between 3 feet and 10 feet was a lottery. You could see the ball bounce left / right etc if you didn't want to putt had enough to leave it 10 feet lomng all day.

Hopefully the course condition improves in th future, but until it does this course is not great value for $100 - $130 per round.

Fairways good. Greens were shot

This early in the year greens were like putting on dirt. No live grass. It was unbelievably fast. Fairways were great but green disappointing

Good course, first group out and finished in 3 hours with our threesome. Only complaint is the greens were not in the best shape. Other than that, great course

Absolutely beautiful track. Running water, flower beds perfectly groomed. Fairways perfect. Fastest greens ever played. Some very challenging pen placements and slopes.

Fun course!

I really enjoyed the Palms course at Desert Springs. However, they seem to be having a health issue with their greens. They were still playable, but not lush or what one would expect at such a course. The rest of the course was in excellent condition. Hopefully they will get the green issue solved!
