Bad members etiquette

I walked up to the first tee to where two guys were waiting for a friend to turn up, so because I was a one ball, they let me play first. Whilst I was on the 3rd hole, the group i had teed off in front off, cut out 2 holes and by the time I found myself on the 4th tee, I was waiting for the 3 ball to finish up on the green. Expecting them to say “don’t worry, we’ll let you through” after I questioned how they got ahead of me, I spent the next 4 holes waiting almost 5 minutes on every shot, and there were no groups ahead of them either. I also waited nearly 15 minutes to tee off on the 7th hole due to the congested nature of that part of the course. The group I played through on the first tee knew I was a guest (they were members) as I told them it was my first time, therefore I can’t understand why they thought it acceptable to cut me up and proceed to make me wait on every shot. After the 7th hole I was completely fed up and walked in. I won’t be playing this course again.

Do you like hills?

A coarse that has a lot of gradient, not for the faint of heart, layout of the coarse is ridiculous, and the signs to the next tee are woeful, it was well kept, but coupled with the above points especially to someone who has never played it, repeat customers will definitely look elsewhere.

Quirky course

Friendly locals greeted us at this hillside location (bring good shoes!). First tee shot is over the practice green with a patio of members watching you… daunting.

Enjoyed the course as a whole, very interesting holes.

There is points in the round where it gets a bit dicey… criss-crossing holes are somewhat dangerous for a visitor. (16 holes playing 18 - they’re working on 2 more holes)

We thought quite a few of the greens were of poor condition, so not great value for £30. But an enjoyable day

Shambles - don't waste your time and money

It's not an exaggeration when I say this is the worst course layout I have ever come across. To start a lot of the fairways cross over and there was some doubling back to tees. They apparently have removed 2 holes from the course so 2 were played twice to make up the full 18. Signage leading to the next tees was very poor and at times it was very unclear where the next green was. Course layout had been changed, but out of date tee box signs were still present making things very confusing, as it resulted in holes that were numbered incorrectly. We got lost on at least 3 occasions guessing where we were supposed to go next.

Course conditions were decent however unfortunately this isn't too relevent when the course is unplayable due to the layout. A plus side there are some good views from the top of some of the hills.

The clubhouse is very dated and hospitality in the proshop wasn't great. (A warning about the layout would have been nice!)

Despite the low green fees I can't recommend Caerphilly gc, don't waste your time and money.

Not great

A lot of crossing fairways / tee boxes. 2 holes were not in play due to weather. Won't be returning any time soon.
