Patriot Hills Golf Club
About
Tucked away in the Ramapo Mountains on a perch overlooking the Hudson, Patriot Hills Golf Club in Stony Point feels far but it’s conveniently only an hour’s drive from the city. The golf course tumbles across dramatically rolling hills, providing views that span the Hudson Valley. Don’t let the 6,485 yards on the scorecard fool you, the daunting elevation changes make the course feel much longer. Walkers should be forewarned that this mountainous golf course is nearly impossible on foot. You can expect a few approaches to uphill greens but more often you’ll be faced with intimidating shots from elevated tees, which loom more than 200 feet above the severely contoured fairways below. The Patriot Hills layout is a formidable test but players of any skill level can appreciate the meticulous care that went into crafting each hole.

Nice day
Good day for golf good conditions and weather and company
Frost
Hour delay but starter/staff sent groups out front and back so we got out right on time. Nice to see a place that knows how to run a course
Great layout
Greens were in great shape.
Fairways were well manicured.
Pace of play was normal.
However, leaves must be removed from rough behind the greens.
Great course.
Simple it's 5 Star for everything
title says it all. One of the best courses I e ever played. It was so well kept greens fairways tee boxes just perfect. Beautiful mountain course just breath taking. Trust me you are never walking this course cart only its just too big between holes. So spread out and just a pleasure to be playing on. I've played from 2 hours north of NYC to 3 hours south of NYC into New Jersey Cape May and you will not find a better well groomed course.
Wonderful rounding
The course is somewhat challenging but weather is issue due to low temp... Anyhow, I've enjoyed a lot to play my game and we'll see another rounding soon.
Speed it up
Love the course. Staff is wonderful. Conditions are excellent. Something needs to be done however to speed up the pace of play. Over 5 hour round. While there was a ranger he was not effective in getting the slow groups to pick it up. While I will play this course again it will not be at the top of my list.
Wish we were told about the conditions
I will start by saying that under normal circumstances, Patriot Hills is 100% an excellent golf course. The layout is amazing, there are some incredible views from elavated tees and the condition of the course is usually second to none....which Is expected when paying $120 for your greens fee. Unfortunately, our Saturday round was hampered by some very unfortunate course conditions. The greens had been aerrated (not sure of spelling, sorry!) in mid August and were only just now puttable (barely) but the fairways were done only a week ago and were absolutely terrible. No other way to describe them....they were terrible. I understand that the procedure is necessary to keep the grass healthy and that is fine....but common, do not charge full price, especially when enforcing cart path only. I asked at the front desk if a discounted greens fee was available and we were told flat out no. The ground was definitely wet but in no way should we have been restricted to the cart path only...90 degree would have been just fine. Because of cart path only, the pace of play slowed down a tremendous amount as each member of our foursome had to walk to their ball each hole and with 4 different skilled golfers in our group (as well as the group ahead) the round took just over 5 hours. We were actually told by the marshall on the second hole that we might want to think about playing a scramble to increase pace and it took a fair amount of restraint for me not to say "are you kidding me man??"....I told him we would be fine and we were. I just felt there was no right for the marshall to ask us to play that way after #1) paying $120 each and #2) not being able to leave the cart path and walking to our balls.
Anyway....this is a great course, it really is. We just caught it during the wrong time of year and did not get the type of course we paid for or were expecting to play. Would I recommend this course to others? Yes I would....but I would also tell them to call first and ask how the course is so they do not get the unfortunate surprise we got because that sucked. In perfect conditions, or even in good, regular conditions, I think it is worth paying $120 and it is definitely a challenge. I am a 9 handicap and shot 85 under these conditions which I don't feel is too bad. I will look to head back there before the end of the season when the holes all fill in on the greens and fairways because the colorful leaves will look stunning in the Fall and it really is an incredible layout that allows for some really fun, bombs away tee shots.
I wish I could have written a more positive review but just being honest. I'll be back though...I'll be back.

Great course, highly recommend it!
Best views in the NY Metro! The elevated tees makes it a very nice experience, plan to hit the fair ways or you will have a hard time scoring!
Scenic - Greens are not good due to Aeration
Very picturesque. A lot of elevation changes.
The day I played was 10 days after aeration. I'd like to think that was the problem. but besides the aeration ( that was not filled with sand very well). The tee boxes were in rough shape.
I wouldn't rule it out, but check conditions before playing.
Great Fairways
It has been 11 days since the greens were aerated and they were terrible. It doesn't usually take greens a long time for them to be back in top shape. Other than that beautiful course
Always a challenge
I played here a few times and it is always a great time and challenge. The only negative this time was that there was no pre-notification by Golfnow that the course was recently aerated. Typically, Golfnow flags a course that has recently been aerated. I can understand if Golfnow did not know however upon receiving my confirm of the purchase, there was a note at the bottom stating that there was a recent aeration. Indeed I could have cancelled and booked somewhere else but it was too hectic to go through the motions once again.
great course but aeration on the green
beautiful sight! good to challenge course. most best for the fall
Enjoyed Round But ...
Course is very nice. Enjoyed our round of golf except for recently aerated greens.(previous day). Would be good if Golf Now could advise before purchase.
Extreemely challenging and rewarding
Great layout. Fairways wide enough to allow for off-center hits but tricky and challenging too. A little up and down on the terrain, but the course was in excellent shape. We played at a nice pace and finished in 4 hours 15 minutes. Signing up online is cheaper than calling by phone. Will play again if possible.
I've seen it better but still love it
Ok so, we were stuck behind a group of kids playing a match play so they would spend 5+ mins looking for their ball rather than just taking a drop.. But they were stuck behind a husband/wife foresome and the ranger passed twice and did NOTHING about it, so we started around 4 and had to call it at 16/17 Bc darkness over 4 hours later. It was painfully slow, I blame the ranger on that one. My only other complaint is the greens were in severe need of a roll/haircut. They were pretty beat up. Now that said, it's a BEAUTIFUL course. Amazing scenery for the money and I've played before last sept/oct and it was pristine!! So I know this is prob just a product of overuse in the high summer and timing issue with the crowding. I'm sure if I go back in a few weeks it'll be a more enjoyable experience. But I would still recomend this to anyone. Keep in mind a lot of up/down, and narrow shots. You will need to be laser sharp to keep things tight but overall a great course. I'll be back in the fall !
Mountain Top
One of my favorite courses. If you like extreme elevation and playing on top of a mountain with fantastic views, then play here. The layout and the views are nothing short of spectacular. The condition of the course and greens are also excellent. I drive almost 90 minutes to get there, but it's worth it.
Love this course
If you like elevated tee boxes and a scenic landscape this is your course!
Friendly staff too. I will always try to come back to patriot hills.
Great Views
Course was great! We saw many deer but they should have been mountain goats. You will not beleive the altitude changes from hole to hole. Beautiful scenery.
