Faster greens add a nice challenge.
The greens are a little faster than I remember from past rounds, which I enjoy. The course has some nice nuances that make it an enjoyable challenge.
Typical retirement community course
Course is flat with lots of water hazards. Hazards are typically either easily played around and avoided or require short carries. I thought the fairways were in acceptable condition, but no more then that. Greens seemed fairly small with more subtle slopes. I liked the course and its worth playing. Lady in the pro shop said it’s easier to get a tee time on the weekend, as all the members okay during the week and take the weekends off.
Nice course
I have this course a few times and has always been in great condition.
Tale of two nines
We have played this course many times and were very surprised by the condition of the Lakes nine.It was in the worse condition we have ever seen, very dry, terrible greens, bare fairways ect.The sonoran was perfect, plush, great greens. It was like summer on one side winter on the other. Why???Next time we play we will avoid the lakes nine at all costs.
Very pleasant place to golf !
We live in this community so we are regulars here. Course is in great condition. We played Sonoran/Lakes combo .(there are 3 "9's).
We were matched up with another couple and it was very compatible - A day on the golf course like it should be - "make new friends -have fun!"
The clubhouse has a great Happy hour and food is good.
Unfortunately you won't find it on Golfnow often but if you do -Grab it !
Bargain
This course is always in great shape. "Hot Deal" at $19,can't beat it!!
great golf !
THIS IS A REALLY NICE PLACE TO GOLF !
Clubhouse Happy Hour is terrific.
Enjoyable round Lakes/Palms courses
We arrived and the drop off area and the Club house is designed for residence. When we checked in and got our cart everyone was really friendly and helpful. We played the Lakes and Palms courses. They also have a Sonoran 9. The blue tees are about equal to white tees at other areas but I am not a 7000 yard hitter so that is fine with me. The red/gold tees were fair for women (accord to my spouse). The course was in great shape but they were still where in cart path only from winter grass over seeding. The fairways were medium wide and the Lakes had water on all holes. The Lakes was the harder of the two 9’s and all greens had many bunkers protecting them on both 9’s. The greens were not flat but they where not extreme either. I really enjoyed the greens because they were fair but not easy. My spouse and I really enjoyed the round overall.
Nice Course, Cart Path Only Though??
I have played this course several times and it's always in good condition. We played Lakes and Palms. Even though overseed completed several weeks ago, it was still cart path only. There were many areas on both courses that were not over seeded, but these were off limits as well. This makes for a lot of walking on courses with wide fairways. Very few seniors playing when we played for obvious reasons. However, the rate was good because of this. I will play again once restrictions are removed.
Nice course for the money
Course is pretty short from the back tees (6,500 yards), but there's enough water and sand to keep things interesting. You should be able to shoot a good score if you're hitting it well off the tee. Overall, course was in great shape and played in under 4 hours. Worth it if you can get a rate equal to Dobson or Kenny Mac.
Decent value retirement course
I've played Oakwood a few times, and I'd say it's a combination of Dobson Ranch quality, with Ocotillo type water hazards. That's not a bad thing, as I like both of those places. At only 6500 yards from the tips, you can really shoot a good score out here if you're hitting it decent. If you're looking for a relaxing round where you'll probably shoot a good score, Oakwood is a decent option if you can get a price for something similar to what Dobson is charging.
Played Palms & Lakes
Nice resort styles course. Very playable and good condition. Water on many holes on both nines. Fairways and greens were in great shape but the bunkers (as with most courses) were lacking enough sand to be fair. Very affordable summer rates. Will return again.
Mundane
Al 3 nines are forgettable with similar length par 3s, short par 5s and boring par 4s. The pro shop closes at 5. The water available at the par 3s was clean, but not even cool.....add ice folks! The carts were not in very good shape, and had no coolers, commonly seen elsewhere. The range balls were very old while the hitting area had not been moved for perhaps a week. Sorry Oakwood, step up your game, because there is a llot of competition out there doing it better.
I enjoyed the day very much. Oakwood is a hidden jewel in the southern valley. I will come back when the opportunity arises.
