Course condition poor
This course could be great, but is in bad shape.the price they are charging for tee boxes in no shape to be played wholes and divots no grass. all fairways have tons of divots and fixes their marks. Save your money.
Trash course w trashier patrons
I normally don’t leave reviews, but this place sucked so bad i felt compelled. I took my 18yo son on a Saturday while in Tucson to visit UA. We played Palmer then Rattler. Palmer is the worst 9 hole layout i’ve ever seen, w 3 Par 3s . The tee boxes were anything but level, and the greens had 5x more un repaired ball marks than the worst Muni i’ve ever played. We waited on every hole, and every single shot. At the turn we ordered some hot dogs, which were super good. The clubhouse is being remodeled but they still had really good dogs, smash burger, and pulled pork. Food was the highlight. The next 9 was even more atrocious. Every single Par 4 or 5 was too short w hard run outs to ever hit a Driver. We had so many pure drives down the middle that ended up in the Cactus. We were never rewarded for a single good Drive. I’ve played tough target golf courses w blind shots before, but these tracks were the worst. Our back 9 took 3 hours to play because there were numerous hooligans hacking it up everywhere. The day culminated on hole 16 as we waited 15 min for the group in front to clear. Eventually they waived us on to hit our approach shots, which seemed weird. When we came up to the green they still had 1 of their carts hanging by the green. We quickly realized why as the young punks jumped out of their cart w clubs in hand. begging for a fight. We were flabbe and confused as we never hit in to them or said a word about their slow play. We simply waited back respectfully the entire time. I’m a 51 yo Male w my 18 yo Son. My son is a big football player, so he laughed and said no thanks. He could have crushed them both himself, but we weren’t drunk, like them, and looking to fight. We just continued to chip and putt in, and eventually the punks moved on since we weren’t giving them what they wanted. We played the last 2 holes in over 50 min, only to find the punks and their friends waiting for us at the club house. We just drove past them and alerted the bag boy, who didn’t seem shocked at all. I will never play this facility again and wouldn’t recommend it to anyone looking for a fun and relaxing round of golf. This place is Trash, w trash people who don’t respect other people or the game of golf. The course/hole layouts are the worst i’ve ever seen, and the maintenance of the course sucks too. The food was great but that’s about the only redeeming quality of the entire place.
p.s.- we did have a wild boar almost charge us on one of the fairways. There are some nappy deer, and beware of Rattle snakes and every type of prickly bush m cactus u can imagine. you’ll need lots of balls too as none of the fairways hold Drives.
Beautiful challenging layout
This course is not for beginning golfers. Lots of forced carries and target golf. Bring extra balls. But the course is amazingly beautiful and a fantastic challenge. We come here every year for two weeks and don't play anywhere else. Love it!
Starr Pass on this
The course was in great shape, but I did not care for the layout. Too many forced carry and too many runouts into arroyos, bushes etc. Not a good course for higher handicaps.
Target golf at it's finest
Definitely a nice course and experience, but not somewhere I'd like to play regularly. Not a particularly long course, but every hole is a layup/course management play. It gets old for 18 holes. You can hit quality golf shots and be penalized if you roll out of a fairway or miss a green (lost ball in the desert that is unplayable). It may get better if you play multiple times and know the lines, but imo not the best golf experience for the money.
Desert Getaway
Course was in great shape. Amenities were minimal due to ongoing construction. But the staff were attentive and did their best to minimize impact. Had an enjoyable day.
I thoroughly enjoyed the course and found it to be a nice value for vacation golf. The desert eats errant shots but it you search you’ll find 4x or more balls easily. The pro shop is under construction so they have a trailer and a food truck. I played the next day on a Sunday and the pave of play was excellent.
Really improved
This course has really improved the last couple years. The bunkers are best in Tucson. They also have cleaned up some of the waste areas and edges of fairways. Always been a beautiful course but now the conditions make it more fun
Great shape, friendly staff
We played Coyote/Palmer and found the course to be in much better shape than when we played last year. The starter, David, was friendly and knowledgeable and a real asset to this course. Tee time was 9:20 am and we played in about 3,5 hours, maybe less. My wife felt that there were too many forced carries on the Palmer and preferred the Coyote/ Rattler routing from last year. I like Coyote/Palmer. I played Silver on both but easily could have played back. Silver on Palmer is shorter than Coyote. All in all, a good, fast day. Would play again.
Oh Dear
Beautiful course (we played Palmer/Rattler) with very nice driving range and putting green. Lots of wildlife on the course (we saw as many as 16 dear on a single hole). Conditions were excellent. Often a steep penalty for moderately off-line shots which is typical of desert golf. Clubhouse and restaurant were undergoing complete renovation so they had temporary amenities which is the only reason for 3 stars in that category.
Great golf course
Played Starr Pass golf course and found the fairways to be green and groomed and the greens to be fast and manicured. Course has some challenging holes but has something for every skill level. Highly Recommend the course but follow directions in your cart as there are some
Holes that require cart Travel To. Enjoy!
Great for golf, - only!
Golf course was great, but staff was disengaged / not welcoming.
Food was awful, and drinks was over-priced.
I won't go back, - there are many good courses with great service.
Ball eater😱
A very scenic course that was in good shape. It had a special ability to somehow suck my balls into the cactus and brush on the sides of the fairways through absolutely no fault of my own. The greens on the front 9 were very different than back (different grass) so you have to adaptable. Pro shop under renovation so washrooms etc are a bit of a challenge. Value for dollar was good compared to other courses in the area.
Facilities are poor
Get to the club house there is no bathroom which is ridiculous.
