Starr Pass - RoadRunner #9 Photo submitted by Mark7630854 on 10/08/2012
course needs some work
The course has some very challenging holes due to the elevation changes and in some cases the green designs/slopes. It is better to play if you have played there before and know the nuances. A few of the fairways were brown/bare and some of the tees were in terrible condition...basically mud and sand and very uneven. I assume the tees need to be rebuilt. Greens and bunkers were in good shape. I would say the $65 fee is a little high given the condition but fair.
Love Starr Pass but course not in great condition
Not worth the money at this point. Teeboxes were in very bad shape
Great layout
Great desert golf that plays fair.
Gem that needs a little work
Have played Star Pass a number of times over the last thirty years dating back to when it was a TPC venue. The course is plenty challenging for every skill level. However improvements are needed, specifically a number of tees need grass (e.g. Rattler #7 and Coyote #7&9). Also the front of the bunkers have too much sand in them which does not permit the ball to find the bottom of the bunker given its heavy/beach like sand. Views from the course are some of the best in Tucson.
Disappointing Conditions
Most things at Starr pass are 10/10. Off course amenities? Impeccable… Staff? Delightful… Practice area? Perfect…Pace of play? 3 hour round… Now the downfall of this place.. the conditions of the course are horrid. Some tee boxes are straight sand, several areas around greens and bunkers are under major reconstruction. It’s not unplayable, but it’s a shame for a course this nice.
Next Step Up
Course is a step up in difficulty - conditions are starting to worsen because of heat.Still good conditions.
Course in pretty good shape
Fairways, greens & bunkers were in very good shape. Tee boxes were in really rough shape. Talked to employee after round, & they have plans to soon fix this problem. Pro shop has been completely redone, & restaurant at the clubhouse will soon be open for dinner.Staff are super friendly at the course, & I would recommend this course for intermediate to advanced golfers. I know I’ll be back soon.
Starr Pass, first time playing
They are almost done with clubhouse renovations, which is the only reason I gave them 3 stars for the temporary pro shop. Course was in great shape. Staff were very courteous and attentive. The course is no slouch with many changes in elevation. It demands a good deal of accuracy as well. It was an enjoyable challenge! I would absolutely play it again when in the Tucson area.
Need some rain.
The course was very dry. Greens were good but fairways were struggling. The remodeling of the club house impacts the whole experience. Temporary restrooms were less than pleasant. Looking forward to the course and clubhouse getting back to normal.
Challenging and beautiful course
This course has wonderful views. The holes are all very creative and challenging. It requires excellent ball control to avoid hazards and missing the often tight fairways.
Great Golf Experience
play more than 50 courses each year. I decided to drive to Tucson, after playing a couple of new tracks in Sedona. I took advantage of a GolfNow special on a Tuesday afternoon and played Rattler and Coyote. The course exceeded my expectations. This was probably the best overall golf experience Ive had since Palm Springs. The fairways, tee boxes and greens were immaculate. But the design, topography and scenery were mind blowing. Nearly every hole was worth photographing. The abundance of wildlife only enhanced the overall enjoyment.
Beautiful course and lots of wildlife!
We saw coyotes, roadrunners, bunnies, Hawks, deer and no other.golfers. Great day!
Mixed Experience
Starter Randall is exceptionally positive, approachable, and helpful.
“Rattler” fairways and greens are in excellent condition.
Spectacular vistas.
Wildlife everywhere this time of year. Unbelievable, actually.
Some tee boxes are a mess. Driving range stations have little grass. Disruption of Pro Shop and the dining room during renovations will disappoint anyone familiar with the previous facility … and will probably infuriate anyone vacationing at Starr Pass for the golf experience.
Start Pass
Nice course. Good layout and was in great condition!
