Long & Straight
Pros: Overall, the course was in good condition, especially the greens. Fairways were respectable for a public course. We played in about 4 hours 20, teeing off at 10:20am on a busy Tuesday. Not bad at all.
Cons: The rough on March 17 was way up, so we were losing balls that rolled into the second cut. That got frustrating, but that is also just golf. Koiner plays much longer than EO Bay, so if you aren't bombing drives, then better have a strong long-iron game. Numbers 1, 9, and 18 are pretty meh, given the proximity to the stadium and that they likely receive the most foot traffic. With the exception of about 3 holes, the course is dead straight and flat. Completely forgettable. Get a tee time at Harding or Wilson for less money.
Tournament Ready
Course improvements: They laid down sod in areas that used to be dirt fairways, bunkers are soft and sandy, greens were being sanded, tee boxes fertilized.
They're getting ready for the Men's Championship in 2 weeks ish time, greens are fast rn.
Koiner
Track was in great condition. Kicked my butt as usual, but pace was great and staff was super friendly
Player Brookside - Koiner for the first time in a few years. The course was in great condition. Fairways were plush and the greens were smooth and fast. Pace of play was amazing m, finished the round in under 4 1/2 hours. Finished the day with lunch in the clubhouse. Brookside is a Southern California gem!
Conditions & Staff
Over the past 3 years, this course went downhill fast. I used to pay for the players card and brookside mens club but some, not all, of the staff do not treat paying members with respect. Theres this one woman in particular that works carts and ive had multiple arguments with her. Shes the Paul Blart of Brookside. Cant miss her. She looks like she hasnt slept in days. She thinks shes hot stuff with her walkie talkie and enforces rules she doesnt follow herself. Aside from that lady, the course conditions are not like they used to be. Since the golf course mgmt treats the course like a parking lot whenever they have an event or grounds for a musical festival, the holes next to the clubhouse are beaten to a pulp and therefore unplayable. Really really sad to see a course that i grew up on to be treated like this.. but the new owners are only interested in making money in ways unrelated to golf.
not good
Brookside can usually blame the course conditions on ucla tailgating but the season hasn’t even started. Almost every hole had dirt around the greens, not grass. This place has gone downhill and the price for this is way too high. I knew something was wrong when I found a tee time the night before we played. Won’t be back anytime soon.
Horrible Conditions
I’ve been playing here my whole life and this is the worst I’ve seen it, the fact they’re charging full price is absolutely criminal.
They let rose bowl events park on the course..
Food is great and staff are friendly but that’s about it
Absolute DOG track
The condition is poor
Rose bowl has events all the time and use this golf course as the parking lot so the grass is ruined and there are lines of dirt path all over the course. I play here bc it’s close to me otherwise I wouldn’t recommend anyone playing at this course. The course layout and topography is rather flat and uninteresting.
Relatively flat course and sub-par fairway condition
This is a relatively flat and straight course. The condition of the fairway is pretty bad because there is a lot of dirt path due to that whenever there are events at the Rose Bowl it would use the golf course as its additional parking lot.
Needs massive restoration
Greens generally in good shape. The rest of the course is horrendous. A shame. The entire Rose Bowl complex is a mismanaged under invested poorly positioned mess.
Dogtrack
Only thing positive about this course were the greens. They were in good shape, even though they were kind of long they still rolled fairly well and weren’t totally trashed with un-repaired divots.
Otherwise, I have nothing good to say about the course. The fairways were absolute trash dirt much of the time I did find out from some locals that they use the course for parking lots for the Rose Bowl. So no wonder fairways are terrible. Don’t waste your money I I would say But I’m from out of town and used to much better courses for $86.
