Course is ill equipped to deal with mist and drizzle
It was a horrible experience… The golf carts do not have windshields on them. It was a very misty day almost like a drizzle and everything got soaking wet, especially us while driving… A simple golf cart windshield would have protected us and we would’ve stayed longer than 9 holes. We paid for a full 18 round.
Missed and drizzle were not in the weather forecast.
Bait and switched by TeeOff
Book the #1 course like I always do when visiting LA. Did not find out it’s getting ready for a month long concert event till I received the confirmation email. The course is setup in #3 configuration. No where does it say so on the booking page prior to confirmation. Bait and switched.
Pace was really good.
pace is superb. playing it just like in a private course.
Best course in the Pasadena atea
I have avoided this course due to slow play. I returned on Tuesday and teed off at 8:20. Played in 4.5 hours, not fast, but comfortable. The course was in excellent shape in the fairways and greens. I have played all the courses near by and none compare to Brookside.
Worst experience evet
Halfway down the first hole and the starter drives up in a cart and tells us we didn’t pay and had to return to the clubhouse. Of course it was all bulllshit and he was the same guy I gave my receipt to. Naturally he did not know which one was mine. I never been so humiliated and angry I any experience including golf. This place should give up. They are completely incompetent and arrogant about it.
Great value with an electric cart with a GPS !
Got there early to use putting & driving range, was disappointed it wasn’t open.
to crowd and qualify of golf cart is poor.
Quality of course was fair the golf cart was in poor shape. And needs better staffing and management
A rose with a few thorns
I'm going to be a little too harsh on Brookside with this review, but I do it out of tough love. This place has the potential to be spectacular. It sits in the shadow of the famous Rose Bowl with the mountains as a backdrop. Its problems are typical of most munis - inconsistent conditions and REALLY slow play. I could give it a pass because those are what you expect from a muni that delivers a good value. What I can't forgive is a poor layout that feels like a shooting gallery. With only three par 3s and three par 5s, there's just too much repetition among the par 4s. After the first hole - which is also an issue, requiring a much-too-difficult shot over a cement storm culvert to reach the green - there's just too many parallel fairways where tee shots from other holes cause disruptions. I'd love to play the No. 2 course to see if the experience is similar. If yes, then I'd love to see changes made. Could there be a world-class 27 holes in this footprint with a four-hole short course for lessons and junior golf? That's what I dream of for SoCal golfers.
Nice course!
The Koiner course is very good in condition. The pace of play was fast Monday afternoon.
Nice greens. Poor fairways
The layout is fun. Some odd features like those bowl being on the golf course and a storm drain running across the first hole. The greens were fast and true snd challenging. The fairways and rough had little grass.. many completely bare spots.
6 hours 18holes
Of course, there was an issue to be so late for the 18 holes round. They said at the check in front desk there was a tournament so it was going to be late about 10min for the expected tee up time. However, it took more than 2 hours to play end up 18holes. No Marshal to fix this slow play occurred by the tournament team and many of our public tee up time players complained and even called to the front desk or pro shop. It seemed like they don’t care.
The worse point is this is not the first time. I would not recommend this golf course to my friends.
Thank you,
Oktoberfest on the course?!?!?!
Of course, nothing I’m about to describe is anywhere on the app I used to book the tee time.
First, I checked in at the clubhouse and saw a sign that said holes #7 & #8 are closed. Not because of maintenance, but because there were tents and a stage on the golf course for Oktoberfest. The ninth tee box was still close enough to the noise from the polka band as well as the eighteenth. If someone hit an errant shot (someone did from hole #2) and we couldn’t hear them yell fore….extremely dangerous. Also, there were several holes that were labeled path only. During college football season? Where full size vehicles drive on the course for parking? Laughable.
I previously worked for American Golf and played both courses roughly twice a week for ten years. I’ve never seen the course in this poor condition. I know Troon took over and the city now manages the course. They are looking to make money on concerts and events, and much less interested in providing a golf course in acceptable condition. I will practice on the putting green for free, but I will not be returning to spend a dollar here until conditions change. I also teach golf locally and will be discouraging all of my clients, as well as my co-workers clients to spend any money at Brookside. You have turned a city gem into a city dump.
