Hole 18 Photo submitted by Jeff3563351 on 01/04/2013
Slow play on the back nine!
Apparently, the course allows, 18, 12 and 9 hole back nine play during the early morning and if you are playing 18 holes, by the time you tee off on the 10th hole there's a backup due to the slow play coming from the 12 and 9 back nine play. I believe that there should be a more strict limit of players to said back nine play during the early time tee times.
Such slow play I quit after the 16th hole having been on the course for 5 hours
Always slow play here and a course management that knows it but won't do anything to speed up play. Fairways in horrible shape.
Avoid this course
They overbook the course and they do not care about pace of play. Correction, they do not know what pace of play is. They got our foursome out 30 after our tee time. We played for 6 hours and still could not finnish our round. When I talk to the ranger at the tourn about the issues he did not care and said the was normal. Don't waste our time or money.
$th of July at the Brookside
The weather was good and the pace was fair. Since it was the 4th of July, the time was limited due to the upcoming firework preparation at the course. I live a few miles away from the course and I play there some time. I have to warn you that during the college football season and special events(ex: concerts), the the fairways are being used as parking lots. Therefore, the fairways become, you know what is going to be. Overall, I like the course.
waiting time
The young person was really kind in the front desk,
but only one thing, the people played in front of us, took so long time.
Hopefully next time, not so much waiting time.
Brookside
Very nice course and friendly staffs
Poor operarion
The place is mediocre. From the starters who don't seem to care to the six hour rounds. A municipal course at its worst.
Reasonable price and course conditions
Nice pace and nice grass conditions.
Fairways and green conditions were quite better than expected.
I've been playing in this course twice a month w/ good price deal.
One of my favorites!
Show up early
The course has some character, greens are pretty good with some pretty big breaking putts, check it out. I would tee off early, when we got off 18 it was very backed up on the 1st tee(noon).
Nice Course
Nice course Next to the Rose Bowl, greens run true, few bare spots on fairways, well maintained. Avoid concrete barranca running through the course.
WHERE'S MANAGEMENT??
What a joy to play at a Southern CA Historic Site, the Rose Bowl! However the joy doesn't last under such poor course play management and this was just not an "off" day! I thought perhaps it was an off day a couple of years ago when we were approaching one of the greens, and there was a wedding party taking photos in their high-heels, ON THE GREEN!, UNACCEPTABLE!
Then on Sunday, May 22, we tee'd off behind 1 very young boy w/his mother driving the cart, (not golfing). In front of the boy was a group of 5, not 4, but 5!
The single boy COULD NOT PLAY, never had a good shot or stroke. Now this is a Sunday around 12:30 p.m. No etiquette whatsoever! Outrageous!
THIS IS NO WAY TO MANAGE A GOLF COURSE.
I requested an ambassador to come speak with us and they NEVER even approached us.
In addition, there was a bursted water main that flooded the center of a fairway with no one working on it to stop! Nothing like an out-of-control water main in the throws of a seriously dangerous drought!! This was easily a $100.00 day! Golf rules and etiquette do not apply to this course.
When you golf here, EXPECT ANYTHING!!
Confusion
The course over booked course #2 tee times and we ended up starting an hour past our reserved time. No one teed off on course #1 the entire time we waited yet course management wouldn't let us switch courses because they were in the middle of a tournament.
For locals
The course was still very full for Thursday mid morning round. I think the point here is that it's just golf. A no frills golf. Close to the local residents, but certainly shouldn't be a destination. This course is flat and back and forth. The course is built around a canal (or, the other way?) and a football stadium so they did what they could with the land they have. But, it's just golf. I can't remember any good points about the course except to say its just golf.
Marshals non-existent
We were stuck behind a party that clearly had no business playing from the blues. It took over 5 1/2 hours to play this round. Saw the Marshall once and he never spoke to the group ahead of us to pick up the pace. Extremely frustrating.
Nice Course
I would come back and play course #1
Good but slow
Overall I had a good experience but there were issues. The pace of play was too slow for being in a 3some. There was no starter to direct teeing off. There was no marshall to maintain pace of play. It was my first time there but I got no direction from the staff and I clearly told the person who I checked in with that I've never been here before. He didnt seem to care and made no attempt to anticipate my needs or be overly friendly . What made my experience good was g be 2 guys I played with, the scenery and the course layout.
bad experience
I have never taken the time to write a review but felt I had to this time. We waited 40 minutes to get on a station to hit balls. Gave up as one didnt open up. We teed off an hour after our scheduled tee time. The front nine took 2 hours and 40 minutes. No marshalls out on course to move people along. There were no beverage carts out on the course.
Great muni
Pasadena classic, in decent condition, good pace of play, good value
A fun place for the first round of the year
Played the No. 2 (E.O. Nay) Course. The tee sheet was wide open and yet the place was an absolute zoo, even mid-day on a Wednesday. Pace of play was fairly slow. Played in 4 hours and 10 minutes, which isn't bad on many courses. But this course can be played in well under 4 hours -- sometimes as little as 3 hours -- if you're lucky with when you play. Had to wait on almost every shot. Stuck behind a slow foursome that had two holes open ahead of them for most of the round. And yet, there was no marshal -- or "Ambassador" as they call them -- anywhere to be seen. Very poor course management in that regard. It used to be much better.
Conditions of the course were so-so. Which is to be expected in January, considering the course is used as a parking lot for cars during the Rose Bowl.
Greens are good shape, though, and very tricky. The greens are surprisingly small in some cases and very well protected by bunkers on several holes. Pin placements were tough on this day. Turf staff must have been in a bad mood. :)
I want my $ back
I have played this course about 6 times and enjoyed it most of the time. Only problem is they constantly pair up 5 somes and it slows the pace. I usually just show up right at my tee time because they are always late. But this last time was ridiculos.
They had some closures do to the on comming new years day events. They did not tell me however when I was paying full price that we would really only be playing 15 holes due to 3 of them being shut down.
Also as we showed up they were closing course #1 and sending people to our course. So we teed off 45 mins behind schedual. I wish I would have known all this I would have never gone that day. After speaking with the manager he said you already paid there is nothing we can do. Sad because I relly enjoy this course.
