Lake Jovita Golf & Country Club - North Course
About
Lake Jovita Golf & Country Club offers two championship courses, the North and the South. Both courses sprawl across a verdant landscape covered with mature oaks, lakes, and ponds. The terrain is unusually hilly for Florida. Like the South Course, the North Course is undulating with a lot of movement but it has even greater elevation changes than the South, which provides scenic views of the surrounding community. On a clear day, golfers can see at least five miles to the northeast from the second tee. The North has a more modern layout that plays a little bit longer. Although the golf courses are nestled amongst rolling hills, Lake Jovita is situated just 30 minutes north of Tampa. The unique hilliness of the courses and their convenient location have made them some of Florida's must-play courses.

Golfer Reviews
first time impressions
I played the north course under ideal conditions. Check in was smooth. I went directly to the range which was totally void of any grass areas. I had a tee time, paired with three other men, but the starter kept trying to change my time. I went out about twenty-five minutes late. The course was very busy, but we still managed to play in about 4.5 hours. Several holes were cart path only, without any apparent reason. The course was in good shape except for a couple bunkers. There was a nice selection of tee lengths to accommodate players of different skill level.
Big Drop off from previous years
The North Course:
Having played here in the last 3 years, this visit was disappointing. For the rates you have to pay, even with a golf now discount, its very over priced compared to many other courses in the area.
We booked a tee time through golf now as a twosome, having booked the remaining 2 spots that were available for that specific time, naturally expecting to be paired up with the other twosome. The Starter informed us that he sent the other twosome off on the South and that we would be able to go out on time right after a foursome. We had to wait every shot all day long, the group ahead of us knew the starter and were chatting it up before the round started, and they never even considered letting us play through...Seems to be a bit of an uppity atmosphere here and non members aren't quite welcomed...
As for the course itself, design wise both courses are great. Condition wise, its fallen off considerably over the last few years. Tee boxes are just ok, a bit lumpy, full of sanded divots, but still fairly level. Fairways were extremely thin and mowed very tight, so all fairway lies are kinda hard pan lies. One of the back nine par 4s was cart path only with ground under repair in the fairway..Many greens had bare dirt spots on them, and for premium greens fees, to me is unacceptable. The greens rolled ok, not as fast as previous years but not bad. We saw only 1 rest room on the course and I don't think I ever saw a ball washer. The cart girl was friendly and came around frequently.. For the prices these guys are charging, you expect much better conditions and a better experience. World Woods isn't much more of a drive from here and is much cheaper and their conditions blow this place away. Tampa Bay Golf and Country Club is just down the street, and their greens put these to shame.
Do the public a favor and just make this a private venue, let the members have it to themselves...I wont be back unless the rates drop to equal the conditions.
Top Notch
First time on the North course. Everything was awesome. Greens were fast and fairways perfect condition.
Much more open than the south course
Excellent experience. We rolled the dice and bought the hot deal. It was the day before thanksgiving at 11:30. The course was dead and the weather was amazing. Course was in great shape. I had played the south course previously and was a little tight for my taste, it definitely discourages me from letting the bog dog eat on several holes . The north course, while substantially more bunker heavy, was very open. I enjoyed north over south and would absolutely play here again
A little over priced
The course was nice and challenging but I thought it was a little over priced. For what we paid I was thinking it would have been a more exciting experience.
We were very disappointed
After playing their North course we were very disappointed. The course was't in good shape, especially the front nine. The cost was way too much, it was worth maybe $45. Won't be coming back.
Nice layout and in good condition
We played 7 rounds during a golf vacation and this ranked as our third favourite golf course behind TPC and Pine Barrens. As an overall package I would put this on a par (no pun intended) with TPC. Course was in fine condition and very playable, albeit that the first is a formidable Par 4 - Stroke Index 1 !! Good condition all over the course and the staff were very helpful and friendly. Would definitely play again.
Moderate disappointment
Have played Jovita several times...Unfortunately, the greens were in very rough condition. Overall, I would give the course a 5 on a 1 to 10 basis. Fire ants are abundant and you need to be very careful. Seem to have a limited cart staff-cart was not very clean--no one to clean your clubs when we came in--also, the restrooms were dirty...the traps need a drain system as several were filled with water.
Great course
Best Florida course we have played,. More elevation changes than you normally see. An eye to visuals. Par 4's are quite long.
Conditions
Greens were very true and had a nice quick speed to them.
Lake jovita=legit
North course is so dope! I got a hot deal for $37, was a steal. What a great spot, you don't even feel like your in Florida. It's not the most difficult, but if you wanna play a top notch course without paying for TPC, this is your best bet! Get it!
Love Lake Jovita
Staff picked up my bag in parking lot
Cart ladies always smiling and readily available
Great pace of play
5somes
we were told we would be paired up with another couple
after waiting we were told to head out as a 2some
after a few holes we ran into a 5some of members with their own carts
after skipping them a little while later we ran into another 5some of members
we then left
The course is worth every penny
We played the North Course, which was one of the finest courses I've ever played. We played on a Monday and had the course to our selves, so we took our time, which led to a 5 hour round.
The tee boxes, fairways, and greens were beautiful. The rolling hills and elevated tee boxes were unlike so many of the local courses. The fairways were fast with great extra roll added on to your drives. The greens were like greased lightning requiring a soft touch. The course offers a nice variety of holes. On some you are teeing off 600 ft above the fairway, then on another you're shooting over a water/tall grass hazard with a 40 yard opening between the trees. Then the next hole is a long wide open par 5 fairway with rolling hills and emerald grass. And another hole is in a majestic wooded area you cross a bridge to get to and with wildlife making thier noises. The course is a challenge that any golfer would enjoy.
One thing I found really enjoyable and a nice touch was a large ice & water machine at the bathroom in the middle of the course. I was able to refill my cooler with ice,
The regular price to golf at Lake Jovita is a little high, about $40 thru GolfNow, but you can get better deals thru GolfNow's Hot Deals. The course is worth every penny
Jovita North
It's Lake Jovita North! You get what you expect. Conditions were very good. Fairways nice. Greens were nice and fast, not perfect, but give them a couple more weeks. Really close. Rough is thick and tough to find your ball. Hit it in the short stuff! A decent value at $40+. Range balls extra.
Great layout and good challenge
Loved the course layout. We played from the white tees (6300 yards) and it was still fairly challenging. The course was a little wet due to all the recent rains but still was very playable. I have to say that at $70+ a round I was fairly disappointed that the course did not list that it had just aerated its greens. Other than that I would recommend this course and probably will play it again.
Lake Jovita North
I enjoyed every moment playing on this course. The course was great shape I will be spending a lot of time playing golf on this course views were spectacular. I've played in a few courses out of the country and this one by far the past of those in the Caribbean. I can't wait to experience the South course.
Always a great experience
Well maintained & dry (despite recent heavy rains), Lake Jovita remains one of my favorites in this area. Greens very fast (although a little bumpy). Will look to return in a few weeks to enjoy another round at this great layout. Highly recommend. Great value tee times are available on GolfNOW.
