The Preserve Golf Club
About
The Preserve Golf Club at Tara features Ted McAnlis' par 72, championship golf course. Exceptional care was taken to protect and enhance wetlands and other natural features of the course. At just over 7,000 yards, the course offers four sets of tees, allowing players of all skill levels to enjoy a challenging round of golf. Eleven bridges span the many small streams running through the golf course, protecting natural waterfalls and wetland habitats. A unique feature is the 60 foot Mount Matthew, which sits between the driving zones of hole five and six and forms an impressive backdrop for the tee shot. A beautiful clubhouse is open for lunch daily and is perfect for seminars, banquets or receptions.

Know what you are are going to.....
Played The Preserve for the first time in 20+ years.
This used to be a terrific course.
Classic Florida "target golf" holes all over the place.
It was clear to me based on REVIEWS and the price before I arrived, I was coming to a course that has seen far better days, so I was not surprised when I arrived.
Staff was minimal but very nice
Not sure what the ownership situation is with the course but it has clearly deteriorated as the upkeep seems very minimal.
Felt like some of the small MUNI course I played as a kid where they didnt have much $$ to upkeep or staff
I was playing first thing in the morning and there were very few greenkeeper staff out.
If you go, SIMPLY CONSIDER THIS A PRACTICE ROUND for getting swings in.
- I played myself
- Started on the back (they let me since I was a single)
- Played two balls a hole to get as many swings in as I could (I'm trying to make a golf comeback after 15 years of not really playing)
- Putted but not really seriously given greens conditions
- Played in 2.5 hours
Fairways were cut
Rough was so/so
Bunkers were not maintained
Tee Boxes were bad
Greens were puttable in most cases but not really "playable"
I looked at this as practice and better than the range as I got real golf shots to hit
Layout is still the good layout. You still had to be thoughtful off each tee shot shot, or BYE BYE ball
So for $16-$17, just consider it a RANGE ROUND and have fun.
I hope someone purchases the course and turns it around.
Private course across the street should invest and have two course for members
Of course these are a lot of work
It's a shame that a course with a nice layout is not being maintained. The tee boxes and greens were in really bad shape.
Not worth the $17 greens fee.
This course has so much potential! The layout is creative and challenging. Unfortunately, the maintenance is abysmal.
It started with the practice putting green. Weeds, holes and brown spots galore. The first tee wasn't any better. It was uneven, overgrown and looked as if it hadn't been mowed in days. This theme continued over the next few hours. Many holes had standing water, often in the middle of the fairway or covering the cart path. Clearly, drainage is an issue. Outside of a few on the back nine, most of the greens were in complete dissaray. One even had aeration holes the size of my thumb and no top dressing or sand. The holes were simply left as holes. The cart paths, which are primarily dirt and often full of ruts, are just as overgrown as everything else. Vines and branches hang down or across the path everywhere you look.
This course appears to be a science experiment trying to assess what would happen to a golf course if it were ignored and nature allowed ro run its course.
I booked my tee time the night before, and even with fees, I paid less than $20 for 18 with an electric cart. You get what you pay for, I suppose.
Thank god it was cheap to play
Thank god the course was cheap to play. I would not play Tara Preserve at full cost. The greens were tara-ble and I think I would preserve my money for a course that doesn't look like the greens were aerated with a machine gun.
07/25 golf
I believe the preserve is trying to do his very best to make it a playable golf course. Some of the fairways were good, and a few of the greens were good, but many of them are not good, and continue to be difficult to put on. I really like the layout of the course the people are friendly and the money is right I look forward to seeing more done to the greens to make them portable.
Challenging Course Trying to Make a Comeback
I booked a tee time, in person the following morning, after using the range. The gentleman in the pro shop was both helpful on the phone and in person when I got there. They're struggling to keep up on any amount of range balls from what I was told so they may not be available. I was fortunate and was able to snag a bucket. I bought their course handbook just because I was from out of town and thought it'd be neat to keep. The gentleman in the pro shop starting skimming through it and just pinpointing targets as there are many hazards all over. I thought it was incredibly helpful. I came back to my tee time at 7:20 and there was a men's league teeing off at 7:30am. They started teeing off right at the 7:20 range so one of the gentleman, who i assumed worked there, said I'd probably rather go start on the back 9. It didn't bother me any so off I went. I never saw a sole so pace of play was up to myself. There are a ton of blind shots all over the course and most of it, in my opinion, seemed like just overgrown shrubbery. Maybe in time with their new greenskeeper, they'll be able to trim some of it back. I remember one 180ish yard par 3 that I only saw the left hand side of the green because of the window I had to hit it through. The tee boxes are virtually unmanaged but the pro shop notified me so I wasn't taken by surprise. Greens 14 and 15, I do believe, have new turf and looked nice. I'd prefer them to be cut shorter as they were the most unpredictable rolling greens on the course, but if they're new it may take some time to establish. All in all I enjoyed my quiet morning $20 round. I'd go back for that price.
Tara Golf Course Revirw
The greens were dry and brown, fairways needed cutting as well as the rough areas and tee boxes were in poor shape. The course is fairly difficult with some you can't see where you're hitting to and lots of water and sand traps..
Not worth the time.
I read plenty of reviews and thought “Maybe they are just overly picky about their courses”. After playing this course, everything I read was true. This course is in the worst condition that I have ever played. Grass is overgrown in some areas and completely dead in others. There is ZERO good grass out there. Some greens are just terrible and a few had sod redone on them, but not done right. The only thing about it that was good was Pace of Play, because no one was there.
Awesome course for the price
First time coming to this course after reading all the mixed reviews and I gotta say I’m impressed and definitely happy with the round. Will for sure come back again you can tell they put effort into keeping it playable! Staff was awesome course conditions were really good in my opinion. You can’t beat it for the green fees they charge. I’m happy I tried it finally!
Sad to say
I am fairly new to the area found this course on golfnow at a really great price Now I know why. It appears this course is being neglected now. Don't waste your time or money. Tee boxes were awful. Course was barely mowed.
Tuesday, 2023 golf outing
We played the course two weeks ago, and thought the condition was getting much better so we were anticipating a great round but when we got there, the course was in such disrepair, it was hard to believe it. The greens are still rugged the rough and fairways have grass, knee-high or higher, was really disappointing because I love the course and I love the opportunity to play there.
Preserve at the Tara Golf Course
Fairway grass long with clipping on top, tee boxes in poor shape, greens were dry and patchy and trees and bush branches would hit golf cart while riding on cut path.
Not worth the low proce
The course continues to be in bad shape. The tee boxes were not mowed and the cart path trails are dangerous with no we hanging limbs. The greens are spotty and not in good shape.
price you pay
I paid $15 and I played a $15 course. The grass, greens, rough, and tee off spots are very poor. I would never pay over $20 for this course but for the same $15 price I would go again, nothing more.
