Scotland Yards Golf Club
About
Scotland Yards Golf Club, as its name implies, has a traditional links-style layout that is reminiscent of the traditional links courses of England and Scotland. It offers the experience of classic Scottish golf with the convenient of being only 20 miles north of Tampa. The golf course tumbles across the gently rolling hills of west central Florida. The course plays long and it features wildly undulating greens that require tremendous accuracy. True to its links nature, there is little water but there are plenty of pot bunkers treacherously lurking throughout. The signature hole is the par-5 second. At 554 yards, it is the longest hole on the course and it is only rarely reached in two. The demanding third shot is uphill to a green that is fiercely guarded in front by two massive mounds and pot bunkers.

Wonderful
The course was in pretty good shape. The staff was wonderful! The pro shop staff was working hard to take care of all customers in the shop and get the drinks at the bar for us. Wonderful Day!
Fun Course
We stayed at a campground for 2 weeks just 15 minutes from the course but only played there this one time, the day before we left. We played Zephyrhills Municipal course three times prior to this one and I wish now we had played at Scotland Yards more. The greens were WAY WAY better than Zephyrhills as were the tee boxes and fairways. My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed ourselves at Scotland and will definitely play it again if we are anywhere in the vicinity.
Fairways were a little dry but other than that it’s a fun course
Pace of play
This is the third time playing this course. I like the layout but probably will not return unless they start using a starter and a marshal to monitor the pace of play. We pay good money to play golf and expect s good pace of play. Both times we were in a 5 and 1/2 pace of play. The second time we just left with 3 holes left. We had a fivesome in front of us that would not let us play through. A stater and marshal would eliminate this.
Course in good shape.
Greens were good. Balls rolled consistently . Layout out course was good.. would play there again.
Hills in Florida
First time playing and was enjoyable round of golf. Greens were in great shape and a bit slow do to the misty weather. The greens had lots of break and slope. The fairways were much better on the front nine but ok on the back nine. Nice to play a course in Florida that wasn't flat. The course is good for low or high handicaps. It has trouble but in most cases is wide open and playable from most spots. Staff was pleasant and helpful
Thanks
Surprised
I haven't played there for a year and a half or so because things have gotten so poor. I read a review 2 weeks ago said things were improving so I decided to give it a try. Things have improved greatly. Greens are a hair slow but they're good and they're true. Some of the fair ways are bare now sparse let's say. Around the greens there's plenty of grass to chip easily. I enjoyed the course and will be back again. I think I'll put it on our monthly routine.
FROST DELAY hides genius PRO shop
Yep, was greeted with a frost delay(IPHONE read 43), when I found the Pro Shop...when asked if I could get a cart, was greeted with "no, not until your tee time is called'...at which point I chuckled as I watched other golfers wince,...insider tip...this is one way, when course is understaffed, they can CONTROL the pace for us golfers off the first tee...by controlling the INCREMENTS of time between each group (8/10,12 minutes etc)...IMPACT STATEMENT---> pure genius!...the course was packed since it was a SATURDAY and the round was done in 4 hours on the button!!!...
Since this is a links course it is forgiving and challenging with the undulations around the greens and traps put in the WRONG spots for slicers and hookers...greens ran true and there were a mix of dime sized to full sized greens and the putts ran true(dont read too much break, there is virtually none...)
Does need some better directions to and from holes as you wind through the golf course neighborhood homes(do be apologetic if you hit one--imagine it was your home)...
If you play it a first time, then hope to have a good group/members/regulars to help guide you to each hole...and make sure you have someone watching where the ball lands as it can get hidden if it lands in the rough that is just high enough to cover it...
This is a course I would play again without question, and kudos to the PRO SHOP for getting us on and off according the PGA suggested pace...great job!!!
Horrible Organizational skills.
Arrived 30 mins ahead of my tee time only to find 30+ (points game players) waiting around inside..putting green packed and more point game people filing into the parking lot. The lady behind the counter told me: "Come back in about a half hour because no one can go out yet, we have a points game going out." Not sure why tee times are available if they have outings scheduled..At least use front and back tees or do a shotgun start. This has happend before on the weekends here..Tee times are useless here... We just left and went to Southport Springs, booked on golfnow and were welcomed and went right out..
Greens good but slow. Generous fairways. Maintenance staff on the course and making improvements. Nice Tee boxes.
