Mt. Woodson Golf Club
About
Mt. Woodson Golf Club is one of San Diego County's most popular courses for a number of reasons, one being the spectacular setting. Nestled in the Ramona Valley, the course is sprawls across a dramatic landscape of towering oak trees, enormous granite boulders, and sparkling blue lakes. Nearly every hole on the golf course provides stunning views of the surrounding mountains and canyons. It is also known for being one of the most challenging and well maintained layouts in the area. The tight fairways and small greens demand accuracy. There are also plenty of interesting elevation changes throughout. The golf course offers true target-style golf that will test the shot-making abilities of even the most experienced players. One of the most unique features of the course is the 450-foot wooden bridge that winds through the treetops.

Never ever going here again!!
Never coming here again. We have a usually 4some that plays twice a month. 2 in our group are scratch players. We tee’d off on time and everything was playing smooth. Finished the front 9 in 2:10.
Turning onto back 9 we pass the starter who says we’re behind yelling at us to speed up. I tell him to calm down cause there was literally no one behind us the entire day for at least 2 shots. Claims were being a nuisance and holding everything back when we barely half a shot behind the group in front.
Start then goes on to follow us and watch us like hawk every other hole. I was about ready to chew this guy out but didn’t want to ruin my groups round.
Only thing that I can think of is that a majority of us were ethnic. Group in front and back were both all white. DO NOT SUPPORT THIS COURSE. NEVER EVER COMING BACK!!
Goodbye balls
Mount Woodson is a beautiful, difficult course. The back nine is much more forgiving than the front where I lost two sleeves of balls. More than a few of the fairways need some more fluff. Chipping off hard packed dirt in very little grass is not fun.
Or back nine slowed down considerably where we had to wait at each T-Box. Teed off at 1:40, and barely finished 17 before it got too dark to finish. All in all, a beautiful, challenging course worth the green fees.
Interesting layout, but in very poor condition.
Around most greens twenty yards of hard pan dirt. Very difficult short game conditions. Course needs to be over seeded for winter play.
Pace of play.
If the pace of play doesn’t change, then twilight prices need to star a lot earlier. Any tee time after 12pm should be twilight golf between November and April. You’ll be lucky to finish before the sun sets. At the pace of play, anything after 2pm should be a 9 hole price. You’d be lucky to finish 9 holes after 2pm. It’s a shame, really, because Woodson is such a fun and beautiful course.
Scenic course and good value
Second time playing here and appreciated the course more. It’s scenic and fast paced. I started at 12:40 and was able to finish well before sundown
during short daylight winter months. Except for the range, good amenities including frequent cart service. Cons are parking can be little challenging and the range but if you can get a deal it’s a good value and worth the drive.
Great Layout
Really fun course to play. Can go the entire round without breaking out the big down. Best to focus on strategy and not worry about how long you can hit it off the tee.
A golf course with a “Personality “
We simply enjoyed every hole of the golf course. Such a beautiful location and has a personality all it’s own. Very challenging in that it’s not very wide, but fair in that it was not over bearing in length. Highly recommend for a challenge and course beauty
Fun course!
The course isn’t super long, there’s a few drivable greens if you hit a long ball. Pace was great, good conditions and a terrific staff. Value for the money is fantastic, given the fact that every course these days seem to be jacking up the price and you’re lucky if you can get a tee time.
Definitely recommend giving it a try if you haven’t already!
First time
The course looks like a country club when entering the property. The drives between green to tee are scenic. The views on the course are excellent. Some nice elevation changes. Most greens are well protected with bunkers. A few bunkers have what seems to be fine dirt and thin. The course may seem short for low handicap players but the course offers many challenges. The greens are the fastest I’ve seen in San Diego. If your ball is above the hole, you will probably three putt most of the time. Pay attention to the course handout sheet provided in the Proshop. No traffic problems driving from La Jolla. The hills, canyons, and hug boulders make the 30 minute drive enjoyable.
