Silver Dollar Golf & Trap Club - Bobcat/Gator Course
About
Silver Dollar Golf & Trap Club offers three unique nine-hole courses located just northwest of Tampa. The courses take advantage of the scenic landscape provided by the west Florida coast. Stately trees dot the terrain as well as several lakes and ponds. The nines: the Bobcat, the Gator, and the Panther; can be played individually, consecutively, or as an 18-hole combination. The Bobcat/Gator layout offers an interesting variety of fairways that range from wide to narrow, tree lined to open. There are also strategically placed bunkers and water hazards coming into play throughout. The golf course balances challenging elements with player-friendly features to make a versatile course that appeals to a range of different skill levels. The versatile layouts and variety of options makes Silver Dollar one of the best values in the Tampa area.

Rude staff
Old guy (senile?) in pro shop tried to tell me I was late for my tee time ( I wasn't). Overall incredibly poor attitude. Must have to be a geriatric in order to receive courteous and respectful service. Previously liked the course and recommended it to friends, but will have to tell them to avoid playing there. Will never play there again.
Need to CLEAR THE CLUMPS OF GRASS...PLAY THIS COURSE
Upon turning onto the access road, one is struck with the sounds of gun fire coming from the shooting club across the road...reception was neutral as I was early, and was able to get out to the starter early...hit a small bucket into range that was being MINED...per the Pro Shop...would call it, being dug up...the course was interesting in that, due to the recent rain levels, the grass must have exploded in growth...since there were GRASS CLIPPINGS LEFT EVERY WHERE...sadly, add in the FL sun, and what happens is they turn to garden compost quickly and the attendant smell was noticable...course could do with some updating of signage for directions to each hole...ICE WATER for drinking/towel wetting was available...all in all, a good value, but needs to get a large blower to move that grass off the fairways...and the homes are modular and carts will be passing directly outside some back yards...still, all in all, a good day...just the grass left to basically rot...easily fixed with a large blower...PLAY THIS COURSE WHEN ALL IS SAID AND DONE
Good place for cattle and sheep
No grass on fairways, Greens are slow and bumpy. Hard to hit good ground stokes when you are hitting off hardpan 90 percent of the time.
Comments from staff killed for me
First off, the course was fine. Green were in fair to good condition and rolled well. The fairways were wide and challenging enough to keep you on your game. What bothered me and the reason I won't return or recommend it was due to what the guy on staff said to my question about discounts for veterans and military. I asked the lady that was helping me about it and she said no they don't have any. I was cool with that. For some reason he felt it necessary to add "No, but we do have a rewards program that benefits everybody". We'll, hmmm, that didn't sit well with me mainly because of his tone. I know golf courses are privately owned and they can do whatever they want. But, you don't have to respond to a question with any sort of attitude when asked.
Value course
Greens were in very good condition. Fairways had grass. Pace of play was excellent. Not your favorite course, but a fun course to play anytime
Greens fair
Nice layout however greens are slow and bumpy Greens needs to be cut and rolled Otherwise had a great time. Will play again
John from MI
The tee boxes were mostly sand (not good) The greens on the Gator were very spotty but no bare spots normal speed. The tee boxes on the Panther were better but not much The greens on the Panther were much better than the Gator. Flat course the ball would roll for ever. There were not markers on the tee boxes indicating water in play around the green . I might come back because the price was right to see if it looks better in the summer
SUbjective course selection
The pace of this course was exceedingly slow. I feel the reason for this was the starter made almost all players go off the Gator course. The Bobcat course was empty and he let 2 couples go off this 9 in the hour that we had to wait. Perhaps he was instructed to do this but it made no sense since the Gator was overbooked and so very slow.
Course was OK
For the money, the course was pretty much what was expected. Tee boxes and fairways weren’t the best but the greens were decent. Biggest downfall for me was that there was a skeet shooting event that was going on all day. Most of the holes played away but it was just odd to me to have the event at a golf course. Probably would not have played if I would have know that. But the staff were all helpful and friendly. I would recommend IF there is no skeet shooting going on the day you plan to book.
Is this a shooting range or a golf course?
There was a big shooting event there with hundreds of competitors and shotgun blasts going on every 4 seconds or so. With that said the course was ok, good greens but rock hard fairways and some goofy holes, especially # 3 on the Panther course where a large oak tree is less than 100 yards in front of the tee box directly in line with the fairway that sports OB on the left and H20 on the right. . The person in the pro shop was arrogant and condescending. That said, I will be back but not until the shooting event is over. Hopefully the pro shop will have gone to "smile school" and treat customers like customers by then and not like we are an obstacle in their quest to have a nice day personally
Greens were course and hard and were not receptive to good chip shots. Sand would splash on the green similar to a sand trap. Driving range closed for skeet shooting competition. Not worth the money.
Trap Shooting - beware!
This golf course doubles as a trap shooting club. As nice as the course is playing right now, the constant firing of shot guns really detracts from the enjoyment of your round. We happen to hit the jackpot today as they were running a trap shooting tournament. The noise was brutal and therefore, the golf should have been half-price. You definitely want to call ahead and check on their trap shooting tournament schedule.
Gator/panther
Nice course. 8th hole on Gator is a double dogleg par 5. Very tough hole from the blue tees. Nice course for the price.
I agree that guy in the pro shop has a bad attitude however the course layout is great
