Eagle Dunes Golf Club

About
Eagle Dunes Golf Club in Sorrento sprawls across rolling elevation changes that aren't typically found on central Florida courses. The course also claims to have the area's truest putting surfaces. The layout stretches to just over 7,024 yards from the back tees. Long hitters will be pleased about the opportunity to grip it and rip it but ball placement is an important factor. The golf course is punishing even if you're only slightly errant. The vast sand traps seem like you're playing across a desert and the occasional water hazard comes into play as well. The wide, player-friendly fairways help to balance the challenges of the golf course. Since opening in 2003, Eagle Dunes Golf Club has garnered a strong following amongst locals and has earned the distinction of being one of Gold Digest's "Best Places to Play."

Poor conditions
Staff were great but the course leaves much to be desired. The rough intrudes into the fairway in most fairways. There were random tufts of crab grass in the greens. Clippings were accumulated inside the sand traps. Pace was good no issues but I would not pay 50 to play there again.
Slow
Bad course conditions, rough hasn’t been cut since 2023. 4.5 hour round with a 640 tee time, first group up held up the entire course. Play Dora or black bear instead
Greens and fairways are acceptable. Rough is 4 feet high in most areas. Starter gave our tee time away to another group, resulted in a unecessarly long day.
Help
Fairways were quite narrow and framed by 2' grass. Miss fairway and forget finding your ball.
Needed mowing, badly.
Many of the hazards (absolutely huge) have become overrun with weeds.
Rude staff member
Older gentleman working pro shop was extremely rude.
Not too bad
Pretty cool layout. Tee boxes and fairways pretty solid. Greens seemed to have been punched somewhat recently, but they rolled solid. Biggest issue is the “rough”. Their rough isn’t really rough. It’s 2 foot tall weds that are meant I guess to be their rough. It’s not thick fairways grass. It’s fairway then 2 foot tall weeds as rough. No transition. It really looks like it is a cost cutting measure to not have to grow real rough and currently don’t have to cut the huge weeds consistently. If they fixed this it would add a lot to the course and make the experience better.
Stay away for now
I have played Eagle Dunes many times over the last few years, over 25 times. The quality of the course goes in cycles from decent to declining.
Our round found it in the latter category.
First, walking from the parking lot it was obvious that the landscaping had been ignored for weeks. Untrimmed hedges, trash, etc.
The course had large patches of crabgrass IN THE BUNKERS. The rough on many holes consisted of 16 inch high Bahia grass - ridiculous. The greens were 'OK', but a few needed work. When riding this course you get the bumpy ride of your life - hang on to your hat.
Overall the course looks badly neglected, and it's a shame because it's a good layout.
Do better Eagele Dunes, and if you do we'll be back.
Nice, but needs a bit of marshalling
In spite of having aerated within the week the course was in good shape. The greens were not very bumpy, and there weren't puddles all over the place in spite of recent rain. The only problem was...the group in front of us. They had asked (on a holiday morning when the course was running a discount because of the aeration, and thus packed...to go out as a five. The starter broke them into a group of three and a two. Of course once out of sight on the third hole...they were a five and for the rest of the round, we never saw a marshal. So, particularly since we were a group of three...we waited on almost every hole. It was a nice course, one that, were it closer to home, I might play frequently, but, with no marshals (and groups with no sense of etiquette). Not really worth a repeat.
Weekly golfer
Enjoyable golf layout. From white tees par 5's are just out of reach in 2, so use 7 iron 2nd shots to avoid hazards leaving full wedges into greens for easy pars. Some short par 4's with protected greens use 3 or 5 wood tee shots for full wedge approach for easy pars.
Using course management to avoid trouble should ilead to lower scores. I play hear ounce a month and will keep coming back.
Much improved over the last month or so
Greens are almost great again. The team has been doing a lot of work and it is showing. Some greens (like 11) are a work in progress but I can see the focus that they have on getting the course back to greatness.
