The Golf Club of California
About
Situated just outside of Temecula, the Golf Club of California enjoys a scenic landscape provided by the rolling hills north of San Diego. The terrain is ideal for a round of golf, offering verdant acres of countryside blanketed with mature oaks, sycamores, and towering eucalyptus trees and accented with redtop grasses, which border the carefully manicured fairways and greens. Although there is an abundance of trees, the course still has many wide-open areas. The pristine white sand bunkers and colorful wildflowers are a beautiful contrast to the lush green of the course. The layout is not particularly long, but golfers should be prepared for a challenging round of target golf. The course features narrows fairways, plenty of elevation changes, and tricky greens that require an accurate approach. There are also a few meandering creeks that come into play.

Love this course
Excellent course layout, one of my favorite hidden gems in San Diego. Unfortunately even with all the rain this year the fairways and greens still left a little to be desired. Greens were punched again.. I think the last two times I have played here they have been.
Seems like they need a better greens keeper.
With the negatives being stated it was still am awesome round of golf on a perfect spring day with great pace of play. Just an awesome shot makers course that I highly recommend, especially when you catch it on a day when the greens and fairways are at their best.
Water water every but not a drop to drink
This course lacked any course amenities, no cart person on Saturday, water station with no cups. It felt disorganized. I walked off after nine as I was thirsty and hungry but could not find anything to drink or eat
Very Interesting layout
Enjoyed the course layout. Not cluttered with homes on every hole. Some challenging hole positions. Course was in very good condition. Will come back often.
Sunday Afternoon
Course was wide open because of the rain. Staff was extremely friendly and accomodating even though we were the last group to finish. We stopped to get lunch at the turn and wait out the rain, and that was our only complaint. Pretty slow in there. Other than that, great round and great course.
Technical course- makes you think about every shot
Got a decent deal on this course so decided to play.
Pros- staff and amenities, course design is tricky but fun, driver only used on a few holes
Cons- parking lot is very small, pace of play was slow, course was in pretty good- not great shape but also shortly after a lot of rain so hard to determine if that's how it usually is or not. Kinda pricey for me
Improvements
The starters are very helpful and friendly. The pro shop staff is disappointing. Never even got the new phone nr.
Great course to play!
This course is in excellent condition, beautiful & well maintained greens, lots of water shots (lost a few golf balls) and somewhat challenging for women players. I enjoyed playing here at an "amateur" level, friendly staff made me feel welcome and a great clubhouse with spectacular views. The only drawback was pace of play was slow, but well worth the price I paid to play!
Fun layout. Tricky greens
My most fav. part is that no two holes are alike and every hole is unique in its way. Condition was nice but the pace was bad (course was full). Tee'd off at 12.10 but couldn't finish by 5p.
My least fav. part is the greens are just too tricky for average golfers: most of them are multi-leveled. If your approach shot doesn't land near the hole, it's very difficult to putt (sometimes impossible). Therefore, GIR does not mean easy 2-putt home, and scrambling is difficult at times.
Overall it's a nice course with reasonable green fees, if only the greens aren't that small and tricky.
Nice overall shape.
A wee bit dry, but greens in nice shape. Little slow and not fully recovered from 'punching' several weeks ago. to be expected.
Great roll out on fairways!
Course is in bad shape!
Played here today on member rate from a sister course, Riverwalk. I had three friends with me. We had been warned the greens were punched, so that issue was expected. On a note on the greens, the speed was very inconsistent from one hole to the next because of the amount of sand on the greens. Some were heavily sanded, while others were not.
The layout on the course makes it a fairly tough course, as there are lots of ravines cutting through the course. While we were given a yardage book for the course, the only yardages marked were distanes from tee to 150 and 100 markers, nothing on distance to hazards, or distance to carry. Also, no GPS on carts.
The course has elevation changes, and the fairways slope. Problem is, there isn't a lot of grass in the fairways. A shot hit in the fairway can easily carroom into the brush. You are going to hit a lot of side hill shots with little turf under the ball.
While this was not my best day on the golf course, when coupled with the difficulty and conditions, myself and one of my friends quit after 9.
Would not recommend at this time. I think greens will be okay once they heal, but from tee to green, the course needs some tlc.
getting around the course
Signage and directions from one green to the next tee is whofully less than it needs to be......if you live in the community and play the course often, probably not a problem......but for someone visiting,.....it's a nightmare.....totally lost and unsure about where to next, or how to get there.....the golf course is lovely......but not for someone who's not a regular....
It's just not worth it
I booked a teatime three days prior and no mention was made of any tournaments that morning. I drove 45 minutes to get to the course and when I checked in I was told there were two tournaments and a skins game out on the course in front of me. It took five hours to play 15 holes whereupon we quit and went home. This was total miss management of the number of players on the course and in addition there was no marshaling of the course. I will not play there again, It's just not worth it
GCC one of the best courses in north county.
GCC has always been one of the premier courses in north county, the last few outings the course looked to be in pretty bad shape. however, to our surprise the course appears to have improved pretty significantly. the greens are in very very good shape. the fairways have a few dry spots here and there, but given the lack of rain. the groundskeeper is doing an outstanding job keeping the course in such good shape during challenging times like this.
the greens are rolling really well and fast but very receptive to good shots.
I am pretty sure it is only going to get better once we get the long awaited rain.
not as good as before
Getting really run down. 5th time and not getting better. Dead grass and packing em in.
Needs to be little greener
Fairways had a thin lie and not very green
A hidden gem
I must say this was one of the most fun rounds of golf I've played . Course is in good shape. I did not find bare areas noted in previous reviews... Dry but not bare. A few greens had some very minor problem areas but pin placements took them out of play. Every hole was different and keeps you on your toes. You have to be able to hit spots on fairways to take advantage of hole. If you don't, you must have ability to draw or fade or you'll need to lay up. Staff and amenities were top notch. This is now my favorite course.
