The Golf Club of California
About
Situated just outside of Temecula, the Golf Club of California enjoys a scenic landscape provided by the rolling hills north of San Diego. The terrain is ideal for a round of golf, offering verdant acres of countryside blanketed with mature oaks, sycamores, and towering eucalyptus trees and accented with redtop grasses, which border the carefully manicured fairways and greens. Although there is an abundance of trees, the course still has many wide-open areas. The pristine white sand bunkers and colorful wildflowers are a beautiful contrast to the lush green of the course. The layout is not particularly long, but golfers should be prepared for a challenging round of target golf. The course features narrows fairways, plenty of elevation changes, and tricky greens that require an accurate approach. There are also a few meandering creeks that come into play.

Excellent Experience
Pro Shop/Starter was friendly and attentive. Course was in great (we are in a drought) shape. Greens were fair and true. Bar person (woman) was friendly, attentive and made a great Martini!
poorstarter / pro shop management
Booked a 11:50 t-time on golf now 1- 2 players available. After checking in a few minutes later the pro shop person asked if I would mind teeing off at 12:10 instead, the 11:50 group didnt want anymore players, and he said he didn't know how I got the t-time...
Not true... he knew I booked via golf now....
I obliged for the 12"10 t-time with a twosome....
I approached the t-box at 12:05... no twosome group there.
At 12"12 a foursome teed off.... waited to 12:20 no twosome around, just another 4 some group waiting
to t-off. So, after giving up my 11:50 I teed off as a single , behind a foursome at 12:30!!!!!!.
Had to skip hole 3 to get in front of 4 some, and played as single the rest of the way... after telling pro shop at beginning I wanted to play with a group.
Of course there is no starter after checking in.. you just go.. I guess.... Not happy.......
Peaceful Challenge
Totally loved the course, its conditions, the weather and
the atmosphere. very elegant club house and picturesque views
from every hole. It did provide plenty of challenges with various lay up holes, and tight fairways.
Lots of shaping and placing required.
lost a few balls but had a great time!
disappointed restaurant was not open for dinner.
bring extra balls
I haven't played in a few weeks, so I'm a little rusty. If you're rusty, bring some extra balls. The rough is mostly non playable, literally, if your ball goes into a majority of areas you can't get it. A lot of areas are protected and so thick that you couldn't find it anyway. If you're playing well, it's an excellent course, a few holes a surprises, things I couldn't see around or over. I would definitely play a few holes differently. I would play it better next time.
Dress up to code.
changing my mind
The first time I played this course I didn't rally care for it. I thought some of the holes were tricked up...and then there's backwards #12. But every time I play there I appreciate the intricacies of the design more and more. Plus you can always count on the conditions being above average.
Bad attitude
Nice challenging layout but needs more water on greens and fairways. Greens are real slow and need trimmed.
The pro shop staff and marshal treat golfnow customers as second rate guests. Both the older marshal and pro shop person are quite rude and this has caused me to never want to play at this club again. Nice course but lousy attitude Not worth it in my opinion play Pechanga instead. That's a First class course.
Nice course
Enjoyed the round. The greens were good but a little slow.. Fairways were in good condition.
Stones Vacation
We came down to San Diego from las vegas to attend The Rolling Stones concert at Petco Park. On the way home we played this course and it was a real nice afternoon before heading back home. The course has some challenging holes making shot placement a must. The greens were nice and rolled true. Regardless of handicap, make sure you bring enough balls. There are holes on the front nine that may have have you scratching your head. A nice course though and we look forward to playing it again next tine we are down that way.
challenging course
Get a course hole sheet from the pro shop. There are a lot of blind hazards not seen from the tees and even the fairways . You need to play to certain sides of the fairways to have a good look at most greens. Course knowledge is a must to score well. The course plays fairly long. I am a six index. I will be back!!
Narrow fairways
This is a challenging course with several very narrow fairways and many hard to read greens, with similarities to Redhalk and Cross Creek. The condition of the fairways and grass was so so, but the layout is great and the greens were in good shape. One of the par 3's has a bunker in the middle of the green, which is a bit gimmicky for my taste. Lots of elevation change. Course is located in a very nice neighborhood in the hills. Most of the holes have no homes on them. We played on a Friday afternoon in early May and the course was practically empty. No one in front of or behind us the entire round.
An Enigma
While the course seems well designed, there are definitely two courses here: the front nine and the back nine, second nine being the much prefered.
I was a bit disappointed in the condition of the fairways. The grasses were uneven and mixed with the different species And there are a couple a really goofy holes holes: a par 3 with a bunker in the middle of the green? C'mon. And the bunker conditions, well, best avoid them.
But overall a very nice course. Just needs a little work
need better yardage markers.
Great course and layout. I have always enjoyed playing here. The one complaint if any is, the course needs to be better marked, yadages are sometimes difficult to judge. If satellite is an issue then provide the laser yardage finders that are made to go with the flagsticks.
Excellent layout
I've always love the layout of this course. The course just got aerified, fairway and green. The greens were still running smooth and quick. Very fun layout and has unique characteristic on every holes.
Awesome course - do not miss this one!
I absolutely loved this course. If i was a millionaire, I'd buy one of the houses and join this bad boy. Really interesting layout and variety of holes without being gimmicky. Reminded me of my home course a bit and i absolutely loved t, highly recommend this track out you get the chance to play it! Greens were aerated and fairways weren't the best but it still is well worth going.
Mad Greens Keeper...
A great round. Played with a friend and the course allowed us to bring a ride along for a cart fee. He just had wrist surgery and wanted to see the course but couldn't play. I'm calling this mad greens keeper because the pin placement was extremely difficult. Multi tier greens with man hole locations located near the slope. Made for some tough approach shots. Great course, great condition. Some holes are real tight in the fairways. I'll play it again.
gc of cali
Great course! Played in less than 4 hours. Not gonna get a better value.
well thought out course
The problem is the staff at the course.Since it is semi-private non-members get treated as a step child!!!!!!!
Fun Challenge, Great Facility
The Golf Club of California is a very nice semi-private course. Overall course was in good shape. Fairways very nice with greens just a little beat up and the bunkers didn't have much sand. Course plays pretty tight and most of the greens are pretty closely surrounded by the woods, so best to come up short than long on aproaches. Ball plays pretty long out in Fallbrook so club down until you feel you have the distances nailed. The golfnow price allows play of a premium course at a very nice rate.
Beautiful area, great layout
We were looking forward to our first time at Golf Club of California based on the reviews and on our first impression arriving at the course. The practice green was very nice, great practice area. The tee boxes were pretty poor, they hadn't been cut for a couple of days. The fairways were a mixture of different grasses and not recently mowed. We played in the afternoon and our cart started to run out of power at the 11th hole, a cart with 2 staff went by us on hole 12, we reported the problem, were told a new cart would come out and we would be able to continue on. They never came back, so on hole 14, which is an uphill hole, our playing partners had to push us. We tried calling the Pro shop to let them know and it went to voice mail. We finished, with the original cart but only because our playing partners pushed us on the uphills. When we got into the Pro Shop at the end of the round, we told the person on duty, who really didn't even apologize, just said they were busy and had had a cart breakdown. It is hard to believe that they could't have replacement batteries to put into a cart so it had enough power to make it around this hilly course with long green to tee areas that would need a cart. Definitely would not pay the current green fees for this experience again, maybe if service were better, but it will be a long time before we give them another try.
lovely course in No San Diego country
I have played the course for several years, but was the first time this season and it was in very good condition and the green not too fast, nor too slow. Lovely setting and a very enjoyable day.
