The Golf Club of California

Staff was pretentious says my buddy, I didn't have a problem. Course is fantastic, only improvement I would suggest is fix the range! The balls look like they were fished out of the bottom of the 18th hole. Otherwise this is a course I choose every time in the area.

I have played this course many times over the years and it is one of my favorites in San Diego but the conditions on Sunday were very poor. Tee boxes were ok, fairways seemed to be in a transition phase and were a little thin in spots, but the worst part were the greens which were terrible....slow, bumpy, and the holes had not been moved in at least a day ( edges were shaggy and rounded in)...not what was expected as the first group pour in the morning.

Kudos to the pro shop staff which discounted our green fees an additional $5 because the course was cart path only ( didn't really seem necessary once we started playing) but it would have been nice to know that the greens were not in the best of condition.

Very pretty, enjoyable layout! Great views. Score card hole depictions are accurate but the rolling nature of the topography adds major challenges. We got behind TWO fivesomes that were exceptionally slow. Could use some active marshalls! Also strange was that there were NO TRASH RECEPTACLES on the tee boxes so trash and beer cans were on several holes! NOT a course for walkers!

I like this course , can get slow, we had someone hit into us, and it could have better distance markers.

Warning! This course is now charging a fee to use the range which has pyramid balls waiting for members. I guess the ball washer is now broken because all the balls are covered in dirt. Very nice course in very good condition. The staff have that arrogant "private country club attitude" if you are not a member.

Staff were friendly and went out if there way to make my experience great! Pace was a little slow because of a few groups that too forever to playout on the greens (members). For the time if year the couese was in pretty good shape, only complaint was over watering in the fairways.. I will go back and play this course!

It's just not worth the money. Some fun holes mixed with some duds. Conditions were much better this time, I played a couple months ago and the greens were aweful. This time greens were good, but fairways not so much. Tons of elderly on the course too slowing things up.

I searched for a good value and found it. On vacation so my tee time was flexable. I don't understand why there are not yardage markers. Is it a private club thin? I enjoyed the round.

Played on Dec 7th. while visiting the area. Course was in good shape. A couple of the greens were a little spotty but overall they rolled well. The mountains definitely have to taken into account when putting ha ha. I went out as a solo just before the men's member scramble and finished in a little over 3 hours. Not knowing the course there were a couple of holes I would have played differently but I really liked the layout. Would definitely play again and would recommend to a friend.

the fairways were a little ragged. lots of tight lies. the greens were good. Jerry the marshall was the best ever. very concerned about making sure you enjoyed the day

Really enjoyed playing this golf course. Staff was friendly, practice areas were good, facilities were top notch and even better if you are a member. Saw the on-course cart girl drive by us four times in 18 holes, which is nice especially on a weekday. Greens are amazingly fast an in great shape. Rough is hibernating, so not terribly grabby. As with others who have commented on the Golf Club of California, the only knock I have is that there are not many yardage landmarks on the course, so bring your GPS to keep from guessing about distances.

Good:Not a terrible drive from OC. $50 about right. Good layout & hole variety. Girls in bar helpful & nice-Drove our burgers out to us on #10 so we wouldn't lose our position. Last played here in mar/apr 2013 & was favorably impressed then.

Bad:Tee boxes thrashed, muddy, bare, unmowed. Overall conditions not terrible, but seems the entire course could use another day of maintenance every week-suspect budget probs. Greens around 8.5/9. Foursome in front of us slowish. Got a blue moon on draft which was very off. Bar girl replaced it after the round.

Been coming out to Carlsbad for years but never played GC of CA until this trip. Not sure why and it won't ever be overlooked again. Tough but fair track with excellent greens and a great rate. Am already looking forward to next opportunity to give it a go.

You would think that such a beautiful course that is very nice,y laid out that they would provide a distance marker. Other than a white stone to indicate 150 yards to green you are on your own. Hint, not everyone carries a gps. Messed up some holes with distance guesses but overall will play again and now know how to prepare.

This course plays well for any level from tee to green. Very challenging. You have to make a good shot to score well here. Greens are the perfect size. I recommend playing this course.

I love Golf Club of California. It is a great test of golf with fantastic views. However, they let two fivesomes play in front of my group on a Sunday. My round was over five hours. That is unacceptable. I couldn't wait to get off the course. I never say that.

Got out at 6;45 am with my buddy and was done by 10:30 am. Course was in great shape and has a blast.

I have a 2 o'clock tee time. after I booked I realized I had to be 25 miles away from the course by 6 o'clock. I arrived at the golf course a little over 1 hour before my tea time. I asked the staff if it was possible to be let out a little early otherwise I would not have a chance to finish my round. they put me out immediately!the course was in excellent condition especially considering the water situation throughout San Diego County.I played with 3 others who were members of the course and they were excellent ambassadors for the club. it was a very enjoyable experience as it was my first time playing the course. Had looked forward to playing this course after several people had spoken highly of it ....... and on the whole a little disappointed, other than the fact got a HOT deal for $28.
Firstly the pro shop guy was pedantic and a jobsworth ..... we had only about 15 minutes to hit range balls yet he insisted each person pay $5 for the privilege as there is a no share policy at the club. Its unlimited balls so to a certain degree understand BUT we had such limited time then felt this was harsh. and he was pretty rude and arrogant about it.
The course itself, whilst an excellent layout and pretty tough, the overall conditions were quite poor, overgrown Tee boxes, slow greens and patchy fairways. Didn't enjoy the round at all , maybe the frame of mind the pro shop guy put me in from the start but couldn't really recommend this place its in current condition when so many others in near proximity are both much better condition and also cheaper ......

Nothing bad to say about this course. Beautiful course, nice layout and good pace. Love to play here.
