The Golf Club of California
About
Situated just outside of Temecula, the Golf Club of California enjoys a scenic landscape provided by the rolling hills north of San Diego. The terrain is ideal for a round of golf, offering verdant acres of countryside blanketed with mature oaks, sycamores, and towering eucalyptus trees and accented with redtop grasses, which border the carefully manicured fairways and greens. Although there is an abundance of trees, the course still has many wide-open areas. The pristine white sand bunkers and colorful wildflowers are a beautiful contrast to the lush green of the course. The layout is not particularly long, but golfers should be prepared for a challenging round of target golf. The course features narrows fairways, plenty of elevation changes, and tricky greens that require an accurate approach. There are also a few meandering creeks that come into play.

Not one bad hole!!!!!!!
Great layout, very fair but yet difficult at the same. Greens always good with a true roll, also all 18 holes are fun with a mix of hills and valleys very quiet...
great course
this course should be private again.staff and locals are anything but nice or friendly. love the course, but the vibe is not comfortable .cant blame residents and staff caters to them.
First Timer
This was the first time playing this course for three of us in our foursome. Nice course with very nice facilities. Unfortunately, the greens were freshly aereated, though we were not made aware of this when we booked. For this review I'll assume the greens are normally well maintained. Unlike many other courses here in the valley, they have maintained their fairways and rough areas here at The Golf Club of California. Conversely, the rough is a bit more challeging at 2-4 inches of grass blades. Bring your best reading-glasses, your going to need them when lining up your putts on these well undulated greens. The good news, large putting surfaces -- the bad news, large putting surfaces. There are many blind shots so smart golf and course management will serve you well for this round. The only criticism I have is some bunkers (not all) appeared to have drainage issues. The low areas within the bunkers looked as if pudles of water were just pumped out. With the SOCAL drought upon us the likely culprit would be sprinklers. Very much enjoyed the layout and will play again once the greens have recovered.
Somewhere Special
Golf Club of California is one of the best courses in North County. I, however, caught it on 'aerification' day. I was only able to play the back nine twice. The good thing is the back nine is an amazing nine holes of golf. The bad news? So is the front nine. This course tests all of your ability and club selection. I was disappointed in not playing the front nine. However, I was happy to play the back twice, hoping not to make the same mistakes on the hole I did the first time I played it. Shot three strokes better the second time around. Should be ready to go in two weeks. Do your self a favor and get out there.
Great course, nice find in North San Diego
we were 1st out so pace of play was great, less then 3.5hrs. Course was in great condition considering our drought. Fairways need water but good condition, greens were nice. 1st time on course played from the tips, very challenging. We will be back. Worth the drive from Newport Beach.
lots of caracter
fast greens , ran true
over-all good conditions despite drought
Start Left
The first two holes really aren't much fun. There's no room to the right and little to the left. Greens are small and snuggle next to hazards. One par three was a relatively short hole having very little green depth and a pond in front. Shots actually spun off the green into the pond. The rest of the course was pretty good.
great golf
Just a lovely place in the hills of SoCal. Only problem is that course needs to police course with ranger. We got stuck behind a fivesome who did not care about people behind them. And they were terrible golfers and slower than anyone. No one was in front of them. They could use some manners and be aware of others. We finally skipped nine to get ahead of them and went to ten. In addition two holes on the back did not have pins replaced in the hole. Both were blind shots to the green with no pin visible. Someone was not putting pins back in hole when finished.
one of our favorites!
LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this course. Play it every time I am out from Texas. It is very challenging...many carries from tee shots, water, sand. Lots of uphill shots and undulating greens. That's what I like about it since all my home courses in the Panhandle of Texas tend to be very flat! The problem on this particular day was the pace of play. Very slow, which isn't typically a problem here. Making matters worse was there was no marshall to move things along. It didn't help that we were a threesome following two foursomes and then had a twosome pushing us....wish the clubhouse had made some pairing decisions that could have helped. Course was in great condition though and we will play again in June when we go back to the area.
Worth the drive from San Diego
Beautiful course. Nice layout. Some very challenging holes but also possible to score. Most holes are narrow, but also have forgiving sloped edges to bring the ball back into play.
good value
we paid $53 to play on a Saturday. Pace of play was great and course was in good condition, other than a couple of rough greens. Course has about 5 really pleasing hole layouts.
Solid place to enjoy challenging round
Greens were in very good shape. Fairways are mowed tight yielding excellent runout. I played on a Sunday with the GolfNow special of $36 which was an excellent deal, I'd play there 3 times a week at those rates. But even at $60 it's competitive just a bit time consuming to get to. Very happy. Big boy course not for everyone at times, myself included.
Winter shape
After all I had heard about this course I expected a bit better playing conditions, but it is winter.
High on your list
This is a private club that have opened tee times to the public so quality is good
A tough course first time but I will be back to take my revenge I realy liked the elevation changes
The sceanery is breath taking.
After we sat on the verandaed and watch.shots to the 18th . A great experience
Country Club Feel
This was my first time playing this gem. The course has the feel of an east coast country club. Mature trees line the course and the greens are some of the best i've played in years. I will definitely be back.
1st time TGCC
We were looking for a new course to play and the Golfnow deal was exactly what we wanted. Course was great and is sure to become a regular on our schedule.
Lots of fun, but tough
Hit it straight or pay up with a bogey or worse. This place is awesome and the cart girl Keri is smoking!
Very nice views from tees.
Very nice course, greens are fast, don't go above pin.
Upscale treat
You get private club atmosphere and amenities at daily fee prices. The Golf Club of California offers a great golf course, fine practice facility (included in fee) and a swanky club house. We paid less than $60 each, played a couple of times around 11 o'clock, and it made our top 3 list in the San Diego area. (Steele Canyon and Crosscreek are #1 and #3.)
