Alaqua Country Club

About
Alaqua Country Club was designed by golf legend Gary Player and opened in 1988. Player put his personal stamp on the private 18-hole golf course, with its elevated tees and other features that make it playable for his level of golfer as well as high handicappers.
Alaqua Country Club leads off with a 501-yard par-5 hole, a picturesque tee shot from an elevated tee. There is water on the left all the way to the green and a wooded area on the right. The fairway narrows the last 50 yards to the green.
The golf course measures 6,662 yards from the longest tees for a par of 72. The course rating is 72.3, and it has a slope rating of 129 on Bermuda grass

Tough course with concrete greens
This is an interesting layout. The fairways are in excellent shape while the greens are in poor shape with hard dirt. Almost like putting on concrete. For as nice as the neighborhood it's in , the course needs some work.
Excellent facility
This is a wonderful course to play. The fairways are in excellent condition. The greens have some burned out areas and are a little sparse of grass but they are working on them. If you like to play forced carry over water, this is the course for you. Plenty of water.
A Little Disappointed ...
Course seems to be tired ... needs some TLC ... maybe it was simply the time of year. Greens were spotty with some in the middle of being reconstructed. The experience was disappointing relative to a round played 6 months ago. Will play again but will ask about course conditions first.
Bad greens
Do not play in the next few months there. They are replacing all the greens and did not tell us. When they get the greens done, it is a great course.
Wildlife preserve
Course has a great layout. Fairways and tees were in excellent condition although very wet due to the weather conditions for the past week. The greens must have a fungus or something, they need some work. One hole does have a temporary green due to work on the existing green.
once the greens are cleaned up it is an excellent course.
Great Day!
The course was in great shape, even with one green being rebuilt. Dog legs and water hazards presented fun course management. The scenery and serenity were further enhancedby deer, wild turkey and the occasional cruising gator. My buddies and I can't wait to return.
Great course with lots of wildlife.
This course is always a good challenging course. Some of the fairways are a little narrow and force you to be accurate and some of the greens are smaller which also force you to be accurate. These are the things that make the course fun though. You are sure to see plenty of wildlife during your round. There are always deer and gators. I would certainly recommend this course. Also the remodeling of practice area is finished.
Narrow and Tight with lots of wild live
A great course, keeps you very honest and punishes the wayward shots. Some of the greens are very small and challenging, the fourth hole is an island hole and having some gators lying in the bunker means hitting the green is a good thing for your health! :)
short but tough
first time playing this course. nice course but precision shots are required. tee shots are tight and alot of water. would definately play again but with a different game plan.
Nice layout but needs maintainence
This course is rather short and fun to play. The front nine greens are slow and in need of an upgrade along with about half the tee boxes. The back nine greens are in better shape but still not great. If this course was in better shape it would be a GREAT place to play.
Love this course
played alone-practice-course in excellent condition
GOOD PLACE TO LAY
I WOULD RECOMMEND THIS TO ANYONE IT IS A FUN COURSE TO PLAY AT AND FOR 30 BUCKS YOU CANT BEAT THAT
Excellent hidden gem
Great environment and good challenging
par fives. Enjoy the wildlife around, too.
Save your money not worth any price to play!
This course needs lots of work , tee boxes & greens are terrible . You need to re-rate it, to below average!
Wonderful course
I loved the course! Mostly wide open but still challenging because of water and sand traps. Only problem the score card and the holes didn't match what was in my GPS. I was told they flip flopped the course 1 hole was now tenth hole and so forth. Other golfer told me that, not the staff. Other than that, I would love to play it again!
Good shape
Course in good shape. Som greens had some dead spots. But great shape other than that. We saw 2 gators and many deer.
About to rain
Hidden jewel wildlife everywhere deer, gators, egrets, turkeys. Wow, the only thing is I was confused with the scorecard. They have switched the front 9 with the back 9, and did not tell us when we checked in. Otherwise great experience.
Great course but.....
The course was great and challenging. It was made more challenging by the fact that 1) the scorecard was inaccurate, including no hole maps and 2) one or two holes had no hole schematic/map posted. We told the golf "pro" that we had not played the course and he never informed us about the aforementioned issues. When brought to the attention of the management the following day, because the golf "pro" Austin Hughes had already left, the manager stated that "It's been a private course and the members know the layout". Further discussion was fruitless as no apology was offered. Maybe Alaqua should return to its private status. Then again it did not survive financially as such before.
Great course!! Good greens
Great challenging course and beautiful green would play this course again
