Amazing experience!
Well kept up, great pace of play and worth the $ to play everytime I get a chance.
Was a little disappointed
This was my first time playing Moorpark CC. Played the Ridgeline, Creekside 9's. The Ridgeline was not as difficult as the Creekside. Both had several forced carries and water came into play on a hole or 2. Overall the course was in good shape and greens rolled true for the most part. I think the thing I was disappointed in was the course really lacked character and was too hilly at times with some pretty severe elevation changes on several holes. The other thing is most courses in the area have a hard time competing with the value for the money that Rustic Canyon provides. Is a nice course with very nice facilities but don't think it's worth the $70 paid.
Beautiful course...
Enjoyable afternoon round for $50 on golf now, gonna have to do it again soon.
my score didn't show it but it was great
When I return to California, Moorpark county club will be the first and second course i'll play
loved it
Very good
Very nice, quite challenging carriees from blue tees The greens were recently plugged and sanded. They will be terrific soon. Great course.
Excellent Day of Golf
I scored a pretty sweet hot deal and was able to tee off at noon for $70 with three buddies. The course played extremely tough that day due to the howling winds and overall course difficulty. If you are a beginner you might want to pass on playing here. Staff was great and the course was in great shape as well.
Great Course
I played with 3 friends and we all loved the course. We got a deal for $44 each for the round which is amazing for a course of this caliber. Thanks GolfNow!
Not happy
the course condition is the best and I always tell all my friends about that. But this time I really give up. I will never come back here again.
Moorpark C.C.
Played the blues on the Creekside-Canyon Crest combo (6506/71.0/130) on a Golf Now Hot Deal for $36.49 including a cart. Was matched up with Matt and we got in 27 holes in 5 1/2 hours, so the POP was excellent. We played through a couple of groups and rarely waited on a beautiful, partly cloudy afternoon around 70 degrees. It was a bonus that Matt shot his all-time best round of 73 today!
The greens putted nice, medium fast and held approach shots well. There were several greens on the Creekside that had patches where they had done some maintenance. They did not look as good as I remember Moorpark's greens looking in the past, but no complaints with the way they held shots or rolled.
The fairways had good coverage, maybe 2/3 lush, 1/3 thin.
The rough was mostly lush with occasional hardpan or thin lies.
the traps were well maintained with nice sand.
The customer service was excellent, they got us right out and the starter was really managing the course putting groups on all 3 nines to start. When we made the turn, we were given the option of which 9 to play next, and chose Canyon Crest because Ridgeline was backed up. No cart person, but they have a nice restaurant onsite.
Moorpark is a really challenging track, one of the nicer and more expensive public courses in Ventura County. It's a treat to play here, especially when I get a deal like I did today. All 3 nines are VERY unforgiving on crooked shots, you can accumulate penalty shots in bunches here if you are more than about 10 yards left or right of almost any fairway. Most holes have hazards down one or both sides. Many holes have elevation changes and forced carries over hazards, this is not a course for beginners. If you want to be challenged, this is a very picturesque course that is usually not super crowded.
Course is in Horrible Condition
The fairways and greens are in horrible condition. I've played Moorpark a few years ago and the course was in great condition then. Not sure why the fairways in particular are in such bad condition now. Based on the cost, I'd recommend playing elsewhere.
Great day at Moorpark CC
The weather was terrific and the courses busy as many had the week off of work. The pace of play was good for an afternoon when so many could play. The greens are in tip top shape, fast for December. Fairways very good considering the California drought. The air was so clear you could see the Channel Islands from the higher tee boxes. You always need to be good from the tee box here because the fairways are all cut into the natural terrain. Greens all held and rolled true. This is a great place to play, staff always friendly and professional. GPS in carts tells you all you need to know. Don't try to walk unless your in top shape. Bring a few extra balls, even you low handicap people.
We look forward to playing there
My kids live in Huntington Beach and Westlake Village and I live in Kansas City and we look forward to playing together at Moorpark when my wife and I come out. It's always a good time, we love the layout and the food in the grill is very good. Perhaps because some holes are particularly difficult, the pace of play can be an issue but we have a great time there and really enjoy the overall experience.
At this time of year, make your tee time before noon.
Course was in excellent shape. We were paired up with 2 other people who made our golf experience just perfect. Everyone had a wonderful time!
Really surprising
Didn't know the terrain of the course was so up and down and challenging, 2 cuts of rough, stay out of the 2nd cut, big difference between white and blue tee's, if your handicap is a 20 or under I suggest the blue, the white is very short especially on the par 5's. Pace was a little slow, we started at 12:10 pm and finished at5:05pm but it was a Saturday , I had a lot of fun, I wouldn't suggest walking it's very hilly.
great location
Good neighbor's country golf club and views throu gh out the each holes.
some challenges for regular golfers, making enjoyable golf rounding.
Great, Challenging Course
Moorpark Country Club plays like a private course, not a public one. It is lush, diverse and very challenging to play. Lots of different lies to work with. Fast greens with breaks. You have to be accurate on this course. I enjoyed it and will play there again!
Good course.
Course is a lot of fun.
Lots of great holes and some tough greens that are fast and true.
The problem with canyon courses though is errant shots are harshly punished.
So play the right tees for your game and pack some extra balls and enjoy.
Definitely a course worth playing.
Great conditions
Had a wonderful time even though course was rather difficult . You have to hit the fairways and greens or else your won't find your ball. Greens are in great shape. Greens are also fast and true. I Will come back and play again.
Toughest of the three 9 holes.
Creekside is the toughest of the three 9 holes, I feel. It's tighter and has less landing areas than the other two, and has more dog-leg looks off the tee. The course is in good shape right now, I think, compared to many others. Very enjoyable. Tremendous hilly terrain, you have to know your yardages well to score well with the down hill and up hill shots. The driveable Par 4 #5 is fun, huge downhill shot about 300 yards from the back tee. The greens are running nicely but are soft and receptive. If you hit it high it will leave a ball mark and stop. Unfortunately the POP came to a crawl on this side today, waited on every shot on this side, after having moved through the Ridgeline pretty quick, and so was a bit disappointing. Other than that, it's a fun place to play, really tough on you if you can't figure out the up and down yardages.
Hilly layout, tough on windy days
Today was perfect. A little breeze but nothing to bother the shot. Just enough wind to keep you cool on a mid-80's sunshine day. Teed off around 10:30am, the course was drying out just right. Fairways are decent, surprisingly, much better than it was a month ago when it looked rather dry and crusty in most parts and over soggy in many. Tees were a little on the long side, for my liking, but I understand how they would have to keep it somewhat fluffy to keep the grass growing steadily. Greens were very soft, easy to land with ball marks, as were the fringes, but the greens were running nicely as always, but stickier than usual today I felt, as the putts just weren't breaking at all.
It's very hilly as everybody knows, and you have to know your knock-down yardages on many holes hitting down the hill or the extra to get it up the hill. Huge gaps between some holes, and you are not allowed to walk this place - and you wouldn't want to. The views are nice.
Played Creekside for the back 9, so please read that review also.
