The Palmer Course is one of two golf courses at La Cantera Resort, it is named after its famous designer, golf legend Arnold Palmer. Firmly situated on 225 acres of Texas Hill Country, the golf course features plenty of elevation changes to keep golfers on their toes. There is also an abundance of mature oaks covering the course, requiring accuracy off the tees. The unique layout incorporates dramatic waterfalls, lakes, and numerous white sand bunkers throughout. La Cantera Resort’s Palmer Course has several signature holes, most notably the fourth hole. This demanding par 3 requires a long carry over a lake with waterfalls along the front of the green.

Finishing hole. The 2nd shot into the green is possible one of the most beautiful shots a golfer can make. Photo submitted by mstacy769 on 06/27/2013

Great hills and greens
Fantastic place to play.
Great layout and very friendly staff.
Only thing I would like to see done is put sand in bunkers and traps. Very little sand and ground underneath is hard.
Great Course
It's been many years since I've played the Palmer Course and enjoyed it just like the first time. Each hole has its own unique challenges which keeps things interesting. The greens were in great condition throughout.
Very good
Great views. Very good condition. Course keeps you on your toes very challenging.
Must Play
If you are visiting San Antonio and want to be challenged by a great layout and scenery you must play the Palmer Course.
Wicket Green
Beautiful course as always, great layout(even though the front and back nines were flipped from what I remembered), beautiful sceneries and friendly staffs. However, the greens gave me so much problem to read. It took me sixteen holes to get some sense of speed. Love it!!
La Cantera Palmer Course
This one of my favorite courses to play in San Antonio. It's beautiful. My friend visits every year for a golf weekend and we can't wait to play the Palmer course. Unfortunately our excitement was marred a bit when we were warming up at the driving range by a group of men making snide remarks about women at the course. But we didn't let them spoil our day. The course is challenging, and even after all the rain we had the two nights before, the course drained fairly well and the greens ran fast. Our starter Bob is so friendly and makes you feel at home.
This course was exceptional
First of all love having navigation system on cart. The staff was GREAT. We purchased 2 threesome groupons and mistakenly had two different dates. They graciously allowed us to use both so our 3 couples could all play. The entire course was in excellent condition and the greens putted true. I would highly recommend the Palmer course and all three couple stated they would return. We were all from the Houston area and have mostly flat fairways, so we really enjoyed the hilly fairways, which gave us some breath taking views.
Best around
Near perfect conditions with greens at 11. challenging hole locations. Must hit correct quadrant. Play one tee forward of where you think you should be. Have fun...
Immaculate, challenging, and beautiful!
Took a buddy to go play sinc she'd never been there and it was fitting to also go honor the king. Winnie died prior to this course being completed, so she never saw it in all its beauty. Every hole is unique, great views, greens were pure and fast, and since we teed off at 823, we were first on the course and played in 2 1/2 hours! $80/man was well-worth it to play this gem! And we raised an Arnold Palmer drink afterward to toast him!
A true gem
This is hillcountry golf at its finest. Scenic views, great layout and a challenging test. Thanks to Golfnow for giving me the opportunity to play this course for a fraction of the normal price!
Great Conditions, Very Challenging
I was visiting family in Austin and decided to play a round in SA. After reading reviews, we decided on the Palmer Course. All in all, this course was fantastic. Great conditions, pace of play, and surroundings were fantastic. It was a true hill country course. The only reason I couldn't give it 5 stars is because of the number of blind shots - it just presented a little too much of a challenge for a first timer. I would imagine you need to play at least 3 times to get the lines down and feel like you can give yourself a chance to score. It was a fun course and I would absolutely play again, just temper your expectations the first time out.
arnie's course
Beautiful course, great scenery, one exception that was a turn off was all of the blind tee shots, going up hill. Course is best played with irons.
Soggy but fun
We enjoyed playing this course unfortunately we could only complete 13 holes due to a persistent rain storm. We virtually had the course to ourselves as others must have anticipated the rain and stayed home.We will definitely play this course again hopefully in better weather .
Awesome Course
I played this course three times the week of Labor Day with a buddy. The course is awesome-both visually stunning and a stern test of golf. The course conditions-tees, fairways and greens were perfect and the service was top notch. Everyone was very courteous and helpful and the cart girls came around at least twice per nine holes. Now, some tips on playing the course: first you must be able to get off the tee, your drive doesn’t need to be monster long but it should be a respectable length and accuracy; if not, you either a) won’t be able to see the green or b) won’t have any kind of reasonable angle to approach the green. Second, the rough will add about one to two club lengths to your shot-so stay out of it; and third, if you're going to miss a green, miss it to the "good" side, because missing on the wrong side means a very tough recovery.
Good course with interesting holes.
Quite hilly course with lots of challenging holes. We enjoyed it and would play it again.
Hi burroughsford,

Will Make You Come Back
I played the course 8/22 and 24th and the Resort course on the 23rd as we had a quick 5 day stay-cation on property. Very friendly staff and after having some 9" rain recently, the Palmer course was in pristine condition, Monday was cart path only; by Wednesday you would think the course was PGA Tour ready & very well manicured. No matter where you tee off from this course will make you use all your clubs, as everything is seemingly uphill with great views and wildlife. Bermuda greens, so reminder that grain supersedes slope (check cup).
GPS is spot on accurate, only wish that it gave you tips like resort carts did. 4 blind tees, so aim for the barber pole down the fairway. Only food Ii had was customary dog and beer at the turn.

Awesome
Played the course yesterday's and hands down one of the most scenic courses in Texas. Views are unmatched. Course was in great shape. Some of the employees could smile a bit more but overall one of the best golf courses in the state.

Great experience aa first time player on this course. Staff was excellent. Conditions were nearly perfect in the fairways and on the greens. Tough and challenging while also fun the play.

Texas Finest
The Palmer course is one of the if not the best courses in south Texas. From the driving range to the clubhouse it is top notch. We had a 11:40am Sunday tee time and the marshal got us off at around 11:30. We played in a twosome and never once run upon the group ahead nor did we see a group behind. The course was in absolutely perfect condition and the greens were fast but receptive. It was a good hot Texas afternoon but for the price it was well worth it and the beverage cart was always pretty close by. I will definitely be back.
Hi david5382335,
