La Cantera Resort - The Palmer Course

Really fun course to play. The views and elevation are amazing and the greens were rolling really true. Definitely bring an extra sleeve of balls if you struggle off the tee. Will definitely be back when I'm in the area.

The Palmer Course at LaCantera Resort is the most beautiful course in San Antonio. It feels like you are on top of the world on some holes and it has the views to prove it. The course was in fantastic shape, smooth greens, and lots of rough. There are some blind shots on 4 holes but the GPS system helps you on where to aim. 1st class golf course.

Not much to say here that isn't already well know. This is hands down one of the best public courses in SA. Amazing views, challenging greens, crazy elevation changes. This course has it all.

I love playing the Palmer course at La Cantera, I have played out here about 6 times. It's a challenge and each hole is unique and beautiful. I play golf professionally and I play out here to make myself a better player. The staff is always helpful and kind. The greens are fast and true right now (08/28/2015) and I can't wait to play out there again!

Practice tee facilities is irons only with pitching/putting green and sand traps. There is a small putting green on the left as you approach the 1st tee. There are several blind fairways but gps devices on the carts lets you know location players in front of you. Avg golfer can use driver on all par 4s. Hit the fairway and greens as the 1s and 2nd cuts respectfully are deep. Sand for most part is good but one of our players bottomed out on a tree root in the middle of one of the traps.

Took our teenage boys and everyone had a great day. Staff was friendly and helpful and course was in great shape

Fairways are in pristine condition. Greens are excellent in every way....but the roughs....ah, the roughs. Something is wrong when your ball lands in the rough, you know where it lands, you saw where it landed.....and you can't find it. This is all over the course. A little grooming would be nice.

Father-in-law played this course yesterday. Simply put, beautiful. Some reviews said things like beware, blind tee shots. This is true, however, there's a marker to aim at and GPS to tell you when the group in front of you is through so you can hit. If I had to be very picky, the greens weren't completely true. They punched them a month ago and are still not back to normal. Overall, fantastic course. I would play here again.

The Palmer course is the #2 most challenging course and the #1 most beautiful course in San Antonio in my mind. The TPC Oaks is the only course I find myself scratching my head more about. While the Oaks is known for firm greens that tend to repel balls I can say the same about most of the fairways out at the Palmer. With a few blind tee shots and some cambered fairways that run hard most of the year you can find tee balls you hit less than perfect finding the rough or very often the hazardous Texas brush lining the majority of holes. It is a phenomenal challenge and rewards quality approach shots. Utilize the GPS system in the carts as much as possible and play conservatively off the tee. The staff here always seems helpful and the restaurant is a great place for views along with a meal after a round. Oh and I forgot to mention the course has the best views of the city looking down from atop one of the highest points on the northwest side of town.

If you enjoy a challenge and are a lower handicapper you'll love this course. If you are a high handicapper be wary or just bring a couple dozen balls.

Hidden fees, greens were bumpy and could not get a good roll out of any putt. Unable to warm up with any woods, irons only on the range. Not what it has been in the past. Save your money for a proven course.

This was an absolutely wonderful experience. The course was in great shape. There are some blind tee shots and penal rough but still very fair. The views are spectular, especially from the 18th fairway. What a great finishing hole. The staff was incedibly helpful and friendly. It was also very affordable for the experience. If there was one draw back it is that you could not hit driver on the practice tee. That does not keep this from being a must play in the San Antonio area.

Never having played the course before it was hard to know where to hit to until you got to where you could see and then it was too late.

Foursome was excited to play this course as we had heard so much about. So we bit the cost and went for it and booked a 7:37 tee time. Right from the start things started to go down hill. First, due to a wedding, we started off on 10, not a big deal initially. Once we got to the first green, we noticed group of 7 in front of us. There was a wait for the first three holes, the Marshall cleared that up. Then we noticed a 2some behind us breathing down our necks, so we decided to let them play through. Once we made the turn to the front e cart GPS said we were 20 mins behind, but the time was only 2hr 10min. Half way through our back nine, the Marshall asked us to pick up the pace, no problem. With two holes to go a Marshall met us at 7th tee, telling us to go to 150 and play hole as a par 3 or skip a hole. We asked if they would refund our fees, his response was we'd have to take that up with mgr. We declined and rushed to tee off. Being rushed shots weren't that great. Before we could tee off the next hole, another person from the club house came out to again tell us to keep up the pace. By the time we finished we were not very happy about the situation. The round time when finished was 4hr 36min. Really!!!

I haven't even mentioned the beverage cart. $4.00 for a soft drink. This might has well been a ballgame.

Although the quality and condition of the course and greens was probably one of,the best I've ever seen, it doesn't out weight the hospitality received. Will probably never return. So plan on being bothered throughout your round if you play at a moderate pace.

It was a windy day gusting to 25mph. Made it a tough day of golf but course was in great condition. Greens were lighting fast, guessing around 12 and downhill 13+.

Loved playing course. Lots of variety in layout with short and long holes. Very scenic and plush.

Great course with great views. Varying type of holes to test all your shots. There aren't too many blind shots which is nice if you're not familiar with the course. Greens can be tough as the uphill against the grain is a lot slower than the downhill putts. Palmer's green design with ridges or valleys aren't great either. SA area had a lot of rain the bunkers were wet and not raked which was surprising for a course of this caliber.
