The Palmer Course is one of two golf courses at La Cantera Resort, it is named after its famous designer, golf legend Arnold Palmer. Firmly situated on 225 acres of Texas Hill Country, the golf course features plenty of elevation changes to keep golfers on their toes. There is also an abundance of mature oaks covering the course, requiring accuracy off the tees. The unique layout incorporates dramatic waterfalls, lakes, and numerous white sand bunkers throughout. La Cantera Resort’s Palmer Course has several signature holes, most notably the fourth hole. This demanding par 3 requires a long carry over a lake with waterfalls along the front of the green.

Finishing hole. The 2nd shot into the green is possible one of the most beautiful shots a golfer can make. Photo submitted by mstacy769 on 06/27/2013

Beautiful Course
I really enjoyed taking my father who came in from Houston to play. He was amazed!
Great time
Played with a couple from St. Louis and we had a great time. The course was in excellent shape and everyone was very nice and took good care of us. this was the second time I have played this course and it was well worth the small amount we paid. Great value. Hope to get to play with the couple we played with again sometime. Thanks for the great time.
Palmer Tough
Difficult but fun. Take a few extra balls, snakes in the area. Course plays basically left to right with many blind tee shots. Green speeds difficult.. Will return again next year.
Palmer-La Cantera...A Must play!
My wife and I were visiting our grandchildren in San Antonio but were able to get one round of golf in during the trip and are we glad we did! This course is awesome and probably the best value for the money on the golf planet. The course was in excellent shape and it offered many challenges. We are golf nuts and have played throughout the U.S. and Canada and may fine courses. This is one of them. You won't be disappointed.
Golfing inside a cloud
I don't intend this review to be so much critical of the course as I would be critical of Mother Nature. I was unfortunate to be dealt a rainy day 50 degree day in January, but fortunate to end up paired with a nice guy from Idaho for the round. Staff were all around cordial and helpful, from bag drop to pro shop to starter. Arnie has designed a fantastic layout, I just wish I could have seen more of it, as the back nine plays at a slightly higher elevation we ended up playing many holes where we could see barely 100 yards in front of us. Keeping the ball in the fairway was a must because trying to find it anywhere else was impossible. Fairways and greens were in great shape and even saturated the dormant Bermuda was rolling about 11. Definitely coming back the next time I'm in San Antonio......
Great course not so great staff.
Beautiful course and very challenging. Walked up tipped the guy going in and was greeted very well and was even told I could push my time back cause they were slow. Walked inside picked out a nice hat and was then greeted friendly until he noticed it was a golfnow purchase. Was then told I was to tee off in 5 min and I couldn't push back the tee times because they were "busy". Got to hit two range balls until I was flagged down by the starter. +5 on 1st hole. My fault or the confusion...
Thoroughly enjoyed the course
Course in excellent condition. Each hole has interesting playing features. Greens are quick and putt true. Staff is very customer-oriented and efficient. I will definitely play again.
Quite a course with beautifl views.
Great course but it didn't help my putting. Well maintained. Most excellent.
Great Experience
Staff was very pleasant and the course description was accurate - challenging in every aspect of the game!
Greens
Excellent. Greens -great layout. Practice facility was good . Fairways were in great shape for this time of year . (January )
Great Value / Tough Course
The Palmer Course at La Cantera is the one of the most challenging courses in San Antonio. The scenery, landscape and views are fantastic. The blind shots are what make this course challenging, but the excitement of the course is well worth the difficulty. At $52 this was a great value!
Challenging but not intimidating
For winter conditions, course was in fabulous shape; a few stressed areas on the greens, but to be expected for January.
This course is BEE-YUUU-TIFUL! Very scenic, very hilly. Lots of blind tee shots, lots of severe downhill approaches.
challenging course nice
We had good time. It was windy that made the round more challenging. Over all very nice course. I would play again.
Great Course!
If you can get an online deal to play this course, don't pass it up. I doubt I would ever pay the regular price though but the course is a lot of fun but very challenging.
Immaculate conditions
Greens in excellent shape. My only reason for not giving 5 stars-tried to buy cigars at the bar and with the cart person. The question is how can you sell cigars and not have a lighter or matches. That's like playing golf and not having a putter. Otherwise, the Palmer was in excellent condition.
A must play in San Antonio Texas
The course begins with a left to right fairway that approaches a green that is elevated and protected by a small ridge of large rocks. It is the beginning of a pure day out in nature. Challenge is the perfect word for this course. Don't let the surroundings distract you because your score will be suffer. Its okay if the score is higher than average because while you are playing you get lost in all that is around you. A must play
BYOB
Great time playing this course we had to position each shot accurately but at the end of the day I wanted to spend a couple dollars less on beers
Great Round, great course
From bag drop off to post round cleaning and delivery to my pickup, La Cantera Palmer course was first class. The greens were very good, course was in great shape and the layout is challenging, beautiful and fun. The only negative was cost of food at the turn. 4 Hot Dogs for my group was $22 . 5 star course
Palmer is beautiful and tricky
One of the finest courses with some of the most majestic views and what a value!
challenging
THE COURSE WAS CHALLENGING,GREENS WERE FAST BUT THE VIEW WAS BEAUTIFUL. WELL WORTH THE COST. THE CLUB HOUSE WAS CLASS A.THE STAFF WERE FRIENDLY. THE CARTS HAD A GPS, TOWELS, ICE A COVER FOR YOUR CLUBS IN CASE OF RAIN.
