Nick Faldo brings his exacting, often critical eye to West Coast golf for the first time at this Shadow Ridge Golf Course in Palm Desert. Faldo wanted a design that forced a ton of strategic choices and the architect team of Brian Curley and Lee Schmidt delivered for him.

Ten of Shadow Ridge's 18 holes are doglegs. The towering Santa Rosa Mountains serve as backdrop. The tall native tawny grasses contrasts sharply with the white sand bunkering. But it's the golf choices that are likely to seize your attention at this 7,006-yard, par-71 course.
The finish alone is enough to rattle an average golfer to the bone. No. 17 is a 157-yard par 3 that puts the wind in your face and nothing but trouble straight ahead. There's a lake to carry, deep bunkers and a green that slants left to right like a wayward chalkboard. No. 18, a 446-yard par-4, places both a stream and big fairway bunkers right in the straightest path to the green.
"The fairways are generous and the bunkering style is bold," Faldo said. "And the greens have plenty of subtle undulations that reward and encourage a variety of approach shots."

Nice course
Good condition but green are little slow today. Manageable but you have to adjust it. Overall everything is good. Except the group in front is very slow
NO WINDSHIELD ON CARTS
Great course. If there is any wind a colder day, driving a golf cart around without a windshield is not ideal.
Challenge and fun course

One of my favorite course in the Desert area
Very good condition and green was smooth. Love to played here . Highly recommended to played this course if you are in the desert.
Great track!
Course was great. There was a GN snafu with my single reservation. They young gentlemen helped me wiith getting out in a timely manor. Practice facilities were great all around great track in really good shape.
Faldo got it right
Course was in excellent shape.....greens fairly fast and very true.
Staff is always first rate.
Gold Tees (6200 yds) very playable for older players, but tips require thought AND length.
Did not have time to check out the grill, etc.
Well worth the $120 on Golf Now, since the Desert is very crowded right now..
Just not up to the level we have been used to in the past. Rough very rough and traps had weeds! Really!
Wonderful experience. Course was in great shape, though the greens were slow due to overseeding. Should be back to normal in a week or so. Cart path only made for a long round.
Re-opening after overseeding
We played the first day the course was open after annual overseeding. Overall, it was lush and beautiful. Hopefully, the fairways and greens will be cut a bit shorter in the next few days. While the course played "slow"; overall, it was immaculate. I would hope to play it again, the next time I am in the Coachella Valley area.
Avoid
I thought I was playing on a building site, course in poor condition, all green side bunkers unplayable with no sand and the surrounds recently returned, staff did not make us aware of the poor presentation prior to our round. This is the worst course I have played in the Palm Springs area on multiple visits.
