Shadow Ridge Golf Club
About
Nick Faldo brings his exacting, often critical eye to West Coast golf for the first time at this Shadow Ridge Golf Course in Palm Desert. Faldo wanted a design that forced a ton of strategic choices and the architect team of Brian Curley and Lee Schmidt delivered for him.
Options? You want options!
Ten of Shadow Ridge's 18 holes are doglegs. The towering Santa Rosa Mountains serve as backdrop. The tall native tawny grasses contrasts sharply with the white sand bunkering. But it's the golf choices that are likely to seize your attention at this 7,006-yard, par-71 course.
The finish alone is enough to rattle an average golfer to the bone. No. 17 is a 157-yard par 3 that puts the wind in your face and nothing but trouble straight ahead. There's a lake to carry, deep bunkers and a green that slants left to right like a wayward chalkboard. No. 18, a 446-yard par-4, places both a stream and big fairway bunkers right in the straightest path to the green.
"The fairways are generous and the bunkering style is bold," Faldo said. "And the greens have plenty of subtle undulations that reward and encourage a variety of approach shots."

What a fun course to play!!!
Best course in Palm Springs as far as I'm concerned. I've never been to a better practice facility anywhere in the world. Course conditions were pristine, incredible. Generous, wide fairways, multiple options off the tee on a few holes. The greens are fast and very undulating, bring your best putter for sure.
I could play this course over and over again and never even think about going somewhere else!!!
Nice contoured fairways and greens. Great design
Awesome design from Faldo. Challenging but very fair. Some picturesque holes. Played it to 6200 yards which was enjoyable. Good pace of play too. Nice Pro Shop and Bar.
Great Design
I really enjoyed the layout. Faldo did a tremendous job. There was an abundance of steep bunkers. The sand dunes on around the periphery of the course often spilled into the sand traps giving the course an awesome natural look. There are drastic undulations, especially on the greens. The only complaint I have is that the people in front of us took forever (they sometimes played as a group of 4 and a group of 2, and sometimes as a group of 6). To make things worse, there was no marshal to tell them to pick up the pace. All in all I do recommend the course, we booked the night before and paid 15 bucks each. You can't beat that kind of value.
Great Faldo design and kept very very well
One of the Bert courses inthe Coachella Valley where there are 130+ options.
Great course.
I love this course it is a great course to play, the greens had been punched so the greens were bumpy and slow.
August in Palm Springs
The pro at the desk was the most friendly, informative, and accommodating pro I have ever met!! The course was in great shape for August. I'd like to see someone move the yahoos along a little better, no reason for a 4.5 hour round.
VERY NICE TRACK AND FUN TO PLAY
HAD A GREAT TIME. NOT ALWAYS PRICED RIGHT BUT CATCH THE SPECIALS AND ITS WELL WORTH IT. GREENS WERE SLOW TO MODERATE WHICH HELPS THE SCORES. IN SEASON THEY GET VERY FAST SO BUCKLE UP. BEAUTIFUL.
Good, tough course
Played it on a hot summer afternoon. Plenty of course from the green tees. The wind was blowing a bit which made the course play harder. Greens had been recently punched, but were getting better.
Fun, interesting track. I would gladly pay it again.
Paid $30; well worth that.
The layout is easy on the front but difficult on the back.
The greens had been punched yet they ran pretty good. The layout was easy on the front but difficult on the back. The staff was super friendly!!!
Weather was cooperative in mid-July. A great golfing experience.
Even though the course had just been aerated, it was in great shape & played very well. Weather was overcast & cool by July standards in Palm Desert. Green fees were great through Golfnow.com. An excellent course to play anytime.
An enjoyable resort course.
Despite the course is located at the center of the valley and therefore seems to have more distant views of the surrounding maintains, I still enjoyed the vista of this Club. The overall design is excellent. It provides enough challenges without overwhelming average golfers who come to the resort for fun. Fairways are generous and are in very good shape. Alongside their fairways, several holes have water, which actually should not affect your play too much. Most of the greens are protected by many Scottish types of deep bunkers with accessible areas for good approach shots. On the other hand, perhaps anticipating approach shots using long irons or woods, a few, such as the 16th, do not have sand traps near the greens at all. On the day I played, the Club sanded the greens. Even though I didn't mind that, I obviously cannot evaluate their true conditions. The Club has good practice areas conveniently close to the starting hole. I very much enjoyed this course and should find time to visit it again in the near future.
Good as always and better when discounted.
Played during the heat and got around quickly. Course in good nick but bunkers could do with a bit of work. Basic GPS and water butts around the course. The carts also have more oomph than many. Understand a significant amount of airating will occur starting Tues so will need to go elsewhere for a couple of weeks.
Course offers a great layout.
Course was in good overall condition. Greens were slower than expected, but had an enjoyable experience nonetheless. Great practice facility with friendly staff. Would recommend to a friend.
Forgettable course. Could be much better.
There is something missing here. This has an opportunity to be a really good venue but something isn't quite right. Staff friendly enough but it really isn't viewed towards golf. The course is okay not memorable but for the last two holes but that's it. It was not in the greatest of shape but that's acceptable because of the heat. I would have liked to have given it a better revue But again I just don't know what it is about the place. This is a resort course, on the 16th You are in the vicinity of the main pool. You hear everyone having fun at the pool and water slides. It is like being in Disney World when you are trying to tee off.
It's nowhere near as good as Indian Wells, or La Quinta.
If you like sand traps and water......
Plenty of traps and water to challenge you. We played the gold tees and allowed for a very fun morning of golf. Waited for a short period on about half the holes. Course was in excellent shape.
You need to play this course several times because it requires local knowledge.
I think the course is over-priced to the public. It was in summer heat condition. The greens have several different levels that require a lot of course knowledge to putt. The fairways need that same local knowledge, so if you plan to play this course only once, don't do it. You must stay in the fairway.
Great experience.
Very attentive staff and a well maintained, challenging golf course.
A very enjoyable course with the right amount of challenges
A very enjoyable course with the right amount of challenges
Fun course
It's s fun course but the bunkers can use some softer sand
Course in Great Shape
I was surprised how well the course conditions were as the temperature during the afternoon was above 105 degrees. Greens were fast and true and not too many people on the course. The course does present a lot of risk to reward scenarios. You can play it safe but then you could be looking at needing to make a long putt for par.
