Shadow Ridge Golf Club
About
Nick Faldo brings his exacting, often critical eye to West Coast golf for the first time at this Shadow Ridge Golf Course in Palm Desert. Faldo wanted a design that forced a ton of strategic choices and the architect team of Brian Curley and Lee Schmidt delivered for him.
Options? You want options!
Ten of Shadow Ridge's 18 holes are doglegs. The towering Santa Rosa Mountains serve as backdrop. The tall native tawny grasses contrasts sharply with the white sand bunkering. But it's the golf choices that are likely to seize your attention at this 7,006-yard, par-71 course.
The finish alone is enough to rattle an average golfer to the bone. No. 17 is a 157-yard par 3 that puts the wind in your face and nothing but trouble straight ahead. There's a lake to carry, deep bunkers and a green that slants left to right like a wayward chalkboard. No. 18, a 446-yard par-4, places both a stream and big fairway bunkers right in the straightest path to the green.
"The fairways are generous and the bunkering style is bold," Faldo said. "And the greens have plenty of subtle undulations that reward and encourage a variety of approach shots."

Shadow Ridge, Rancho Mirage, Ca.
Nice course!! Played in the summer so hotter than Hades but enjoyed very much.
Course in Great shape, well maintained.
Challenging but fair.
Great value booking through Golf Now.
Booked about 4 hours before we played.
Fun day in the rain!
Even in the rain - we had a blast! Course in good shape and able to play at a good pace.
immaculate kept course
the big challenge is in approaching the greens. Surrounded by bunkers &/or water, they are uneven & very fast.
A great course, a greater challenge.
Very nice golf course
I loved the course. It was fun to play and the course is in great shape. Would definitly play it again and recommend it.
Hope you are good out of bunkers!!!
Sir Faldo has created a visually challenging course for your beginner and intermediate golfer. Not only are there a significant multitude of bunkers, but their rather unique placement is visually intimidating on a number of holes. Added to that is the fact that many of the holes are designed so that the surface of the green is very difficult if not impossible to see from your approach shot. As well, there are Swales everywhere, in particular, around the greens so that even good looking approach shots are hard to keep on the greens. The greens themselves are large, undulating and at times difficult to read.
It is, however, a very beautiful course with gorgeous views. A number of the holes make you feel as though you are inside a golf magazine ad!
Also of note - probably the best practice area in the valley on a public course - remarkable for the number and variety of practice areas - really excellent.
True challenge on a pretty course.
Great fairways, tough greens and deep bunkers.
For those of you with trouble keeping the ball in the fairway, this course was very forgiving. Once your ball is on the green however, things get tough. I can only remember a couple of greens that were flat. Speed of the greens was manageable and predictable though. Maintenance was good to very good. Pace could have been better, though our experience had more to do with the foursome directly in front of us. Things get somewhat bizzare when you go to the clubhouse for a drink however. This is Nick Faldo's first course I believe, and everything has been done to glorify his legacy. Two large paintings of the man adorn the walls as you enter the restaurant area, complete with plaques and equipment that highlight his incredible achievements. The menu of the restaurant features a Faldo salad, burger, etc. There was also a Faldo wine. Can you say cult of personality? I guess more paintings will have to be commissioned for the next course clubhouse and I'm thinking the subject might be his knighting ceremony. The display of narcissism aside, we'd recommend and happily play this course again.
very interesting green and beautiful views
The green is very interesting and mountain views are wonderful, I want to come back to play this course again.
Excellent condition
Course was in excellent condition and greens were true
Always a pleasure to play
This course never seems to disappoint. It is always kept in great shape, it offers a nice balance between pain and pleasure with some long difficult holes and some shorter more friendly holes.
The staff are always helpful and the practice areas are well kept.
Make sure you come early to warm up at the practice range ( included in the fee ).
Do we really need greens running faster then 13, 14, 15?
We have been playing this course for years once or twice a year on our visits to the area.
The green on this course are very seep with serious 8,10, 12 and large huge breaks on them. We have been playing here a couple times a year on our trips to the area. However the greens this time were running what seemed like well over 13 and it was nearly impossible to get even a an 8 or 10 footer close at times.
I missed a four foot down hill putt that I just barely tapped to get it moving and it ran about 45 feet off the green and down an embankment.
On another hole I had a really long putt that had about a 15 foot break in it. It nearly stopped about 3 feet from the hole, which would have been a great putt. But then it picked up speed and ran off the other side of the green and down into a collection area. I was further away the when I started.
With a million recreation golfers leaving the game every year, do we really need these kind of conditions on a public course where people are just out to have a little fun?
I love this course and will probably give it another try. But they really need to rethink those greens and get them back to the way they used to be.
FANTASTIC GOLF COURSE !
YES IT IS A RESORT COURSE WITH WIDE FAIRWAYS & NOT TOO TOUGH WITH NO WIND BUT IT WAS IMMACULATE IN AWESOME SHAPE WITH GREAT FACILITIES TO PRACTICE-- WONDERFUL STAFF BOTH AT COURSE & VILLAS. THE WEATHER WAS AMAZING! WILL DEFINITELY BE BACK :)
Excellent golf experience
The only Faldo course in the Palm Springs area lived up to its reputation- challenging but fair; interesting but not eccentric. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Course was in good shape but the tees were a little chopped up. I would definitely recommend it.
Just a GREAT course...beautifully designed holes with a large variety
My wife and I enjoy playing this course every year and she finds it very lady friendly with few forced carries. Put it on your list of must play courses..
Great course!
A little less expensive than many courses of the same quality in the area. Course was in excellent shape. Not too challenging but certainly not easy either. Fun course.
Nice layout - great condion
No one can beat this place for care & conditioning. The course is extremely well maintained & features interesting holes.
Lots of bunkering, interesting holes, all different.
Great Faldo layout, typical Faldo bunkering & undulating greens . Excellent condition, especially for the time of year, Nov. 30, 2012. Best greens we played over the entire week! Would recommend if your an avid mid to low handicap golfer. Probably wouldn't recommend for most lady golfer's unless lower handicappers.
Good Course
Very undulating greens, a real challenge.
Nice layout, and was in good condition.
Good restuarant and bar.
Great golf course, perfect condition, great pro-shop, great staff!
Everything from the bag-drop to putting my clubs back in the trunk at the end of the round was fantastic!!
will become a favorite
very attractive course with plenty of challenges without being impossible to play. greens fast and in good shape. lovely fairways following overseeding + a few weeks so carts alliwed on the fairways.
This course is a must play!
With so many courses to choose from in the Palm Springs area, Shadow Ridge is one of the most enjoyable, well manicured and challenging to pick from. From the staff to the practice facility, all first class.
