Golfer Reviews
Great golf course, I will definitely be back if I'm in the area again. Tee time cost about $200 on golf now, a little high, but really not that bad when you compare it to the obscene prices at some other courses these days.
Played with a very nice member, Jim, and his son, who are both very good players. He was helpful in knowing where to hit it and how certain holes would play. It made the round a lot more enjoyable on an already perfect weather day. Greens were quick and very true. If you hit it on line, it had a chance to go in.
If the other courses in the area are too rich for your taste or you can't get on them, give this one a shot. Outstanding track.
Incredibly slow
Played on a Tuesday afternoon so can’t even call it a weekend golfer problem—the pace was painfully slow. Took 45 minutes to play 2 holes on the back 9. At one point I saw 8 golfers on a green?! Didn’t see one person out monitoring pace. Real let down as we teed off at 2:30 and sun came down at 7 and we had to come off at hole 16. Not ideal when paying $350+ for 2 players.
Expensive and poor pace of play
Overall a nice course. The greens are excellent and it’s a nice layout. It’s far too expensive but they’re getting it, so that’s up to you. The issue for me was pace of play, we were about :4:45 on a Sunday afternoon. The cause was (2) groups of (members I assume) slowing the whole course down, the place was too busy to allow this. Anyway, I won’t be back
Lucky Me
I was able to get the first time of the day as a single. For all the reviews about pace, I never waited once, so, very fortunate in that regard. All the staff were super friendly, the starter was very informative, and the lady in the halfway house was a joy. The course was wet from recent weather but the greens were exceptional and the fairways were lush. I’d also add this is one of the VERY few tracks in southern pines that takes care of their back tees as well.
I’m used to playing off sandboxes half the time but this course was tip top in all aspects. Worthy of any special trip, my favorite in the area.
Great course if you like large groups of drunk players, slow play
Mid South Club is a great course. Beautiful holes, greens are next to perfect, layout is incredible. The staff are cheerful and friendly. The management/ownership is the problem…. They allow large groups of drunk players on the course who litter beer cans everywhere, urinate all over the course and behave like idiots. This IS NOT A PRIVATE course (it is in a gated community). I have watched drunk men walking up to parents with young children on the range and berate them. I have watched drunk players yelling at other players to get off the course so that they can start their round. I have played rounds that took over four hours for nine holes because drunk players were allowed to hold up the entire course. What a waste of a beautiful golf course and what should be a great experience. This is a five star course which is run as a two star course. Shame on you
First time playing Mid South
Easily one if the nicest and overall fun course i’ve played!
First time playing Mid South Golf Course
Best course I’ve played so far. Immaculate conditions, amazing course design, and super organized and friendly staff! Can’t wait to play again!
Boston visits Southern Pines
Down for a golf trip, easily our favorite course for bang for buck. Very accommodating as we were late to our tee time due to the US Open.
Great golf course
Beautiful golf course with good fairways and really nice greens
Nice Course - Terrible Pace of Play
The course itself was very nice. Very well maintained, and I do have tolerance for 'resort golf' rounds with slower pace, but a 5 hour 15 minute round is a bit extreme. The starter specifically mentioned that "pace of play is a priority for us" then also mentioned that they were sending groups off the back and the front...
Really solid course, but when you're waiting for 10 minutes per hole, three groups deep on a par 3, and the rangers were nonexistent. I probably won't be back unless its a Monday or Tuesday when its not busy.
So so at best, for the price
Would have expected better conditions for the price. The fairways were patchy. The greens were recently sanded. Played Southern Pines the next day and that was a much better value for the money.
Mid South Delight
Mid South is just a delightful round of golf. It’s an every day play type of place. Big, brawny. Wide corridors. Large, quick greens. Holes that allow driver and then a thoughtful 2nd shot. Skip any lower tier Pinehurst course and go play here. “Resort” style without the runoffs of a Donald Ross. Clubhouse has a great bar as soon as you walk in. 9 and 18 views are epic. Must play in the Pinehurst area!
