About
Colonial Heritage Golf Club offers the only Arthur Hills-designed layout in Williamsburg, and it is also the city's only gated golf community. Golfers looking for a place where they can just 'grip it and rip it' will be out of luck on this course, which requires skill and strategy. It is a thought-provoking design where golfers will want to weigh all of the risk and reward options first. The layout plays through deep ravines that provide interesting changes in elevation. The golf course also features undulating fairways and large, fast greens that are bordered by strategically placed bunkers as well as water hazards that come into play on several holes. Colonial Heritage G.C. definitely provides a good challenge, even for a seasoned player, but beginners shouldn't feel too intimidated. The golf course offers some room for error and the risk-reward opportunities appeal to low and high handicappers alike.

It's not easy to get on the green on the par-3 14th but if you do, you've got a great birdie opportunity. Photo submitted by Back9Ben on 03/11/2020

Golfer Reviews
Exceptional
Must play, even during dormant rough winter season. Can't wait to return for full complement of experience available.
Great Course, but slow play
Slow play is the only thing preventing 5 stars. Presumably it's the lay out that slowed things down during my round. Even though there were mostly two-somes on the course we had to wait for almost every shot.
Course was immaculate, with the exception of traps that were being renovated. Leaves were blown off greens and fairways which really helped.
Fun and challenging
This course is eye candy. It is definitely not as easy to finish as it is good to look at. It challenges you and like the gentleman I played with said you will lose balls if you think you can rip it here in the course. Plan your play. The greens are huge and challenging. The fairways are well maintained and decent amount of bunkers to keep you in check. I loved this Arthur hills course.
This course is fairly tough, and visually appealing.
The course was in very good condition, although fallen leaves on the more wooded holes made it tough finding your ball, even in the fairway. It is a shame that some people don't care to fix their ball marks on the greens, especially on the very nice, smooth rolling ones this course offers. We repaired several big ones in addition to our own on most holes. I had read reviews of the course, noting comments that balls were easily lost anywhere off the fairway, and that the purchase of a yardage book ($6) was advisable. I concur. I lost some balls just off the fairway in rough that was well maintained, and not all that tall. I'm still scratching my head on where they got to. On the other hand, I found as many nice name brand balls as I lost, so it's a wash. The yardage book, while pricey, is very helpful to a first time or infrequent visitor, and makes a nice souvenir. I'll keep it in my bag for my next round here, as I intend to play this course anytime I'm back in the area. Really, really beautiful, fun, and interesting course to play.
Nice range and practice area.
Loved the course. I expected a fairly level course for a retirement community, but was pleasantly surpised with the undulations throughout the course. Good consistent speed on the greens. Some narrow fairways, but there were also generous ones. Some appeared challenging, but a decent shot was allthat was needed. I would definitely play this ourse again if I am in the area. Pace of play could have been faster, but still enjoyed the course.
Course is challenging, a great test of golf
This is a great golf course, easily the best course in Williamsburg. Course was in great condition and the staff were very helpful and friendly.
Clubhouse service was very good. Course was in very good condition. Greens were excellent, but very contoured and sometimes tricky.
Solid 15 hole course, but more enjoyable the second time playing with many blind shots from the tee and into the green. 3 holes were contrived #5, #16, #17 to fill out a full 18 hole layout. For example, #5 is a par 5 - I hit a 6, PW, and 8 iron to the green and made par. It took me several minutes on the tee to figure out a target and select a club. #17 look like something in a golf cartoon. Overall too many houses and too close to the course. However, it was a fun day of golf with very good conditions and I would only recommend it to an experienced golfer looking for something different.
Awesome Course
I played this course and I didn't know what to expect. When I attemped to play hole number five, I realized I need more practice to handle this great course. Very Nice!!
this course is a must play
we played on oct.11 .The course was in good condition despite all the rain.the staff were really friendly, If you are in the Williamsburg,Virginia area make this course a must play.
Challenging
Not a flat lie on the course. Hilly and sloped. Greens have lots of contours. Great holes and laid out for a terrific day of golf
Great golf course where each hole gives you a different look.
Had a great time. Driving range was out of balls when we arrived, but balls were delivered within a couple of minutes. Very nice practice facility.
We didn't have a yardage booklet, so it was difficult to judge where and what to hit on a few holes. Fairways, greens and tee boxes were immaculate. Surprising amount of elevation change on a number of holes. Five sets of tees, so you could pick your degree of difficulty.
Excellent course for average golfer
We are a four-gal foursome that traveled to Virginia to golf. This was one of our favorite courses that we golfed during the week. The only issue was the greens were in semi-bad condition so we only allowed 2 putts on any hole. They had recently dressed the greens and had some diseased greens. It all worked out. Beautiful course and would definitely tell anyone they need to golf this course. Easy for women to par but greens created difficulty for my four-some.
Very challenging shot makers course!
Best have your irons tuned in because it not grip it and rip it on every hole. Must think out your shots! Nice course in great shape!
Course is awesome except hole 5
Hole 5 is probably one of the worst par 5s I've ever played. Playing from the tips was pretty challenging and a solid championship layout.
Always Perfect
Great greens, great fairways, interesting holes. I have played this course several times and it never disappoints.
