Colonial Heritage Club
About
Colonial Heritage Golf Club offers the only Arthur Hills-designed layout in Williamsburg, and it is also the city's only gated golf community. Golfers looking for a place where they can just 'grip it and rip it' will be out of luck on this course, which requires skill and strategy. It is a thought-provoking design where golfers will want to weigh all of the risk and reward options first. The layout plays through deep ravines that provide interesting changes in elevation. The golf course also features undulating fairways and large, fast greens that are bordered by strategically placed bunkers as well as water hazards that come into play on several holes. Colonial Heritage G.C. definitely provides a good challenge, even for a seasoned player, but beginners shouldn't feel too intimidated. The golf course offers some room for error and the risk-reward opportunities appeal to low and high handicappers alike.

It's not easy to get on the green on the par-3 14th but if you do, you've got a great birdie opportunity. Photo submitted by Back9Ben on 03/11/2020

Look at this, where do I hit the ball Photo submitted by Douglas5507193 on 10/16/2013
Not Easy
Overall the course looked nice and was well-maintained. It was, however, very challenging for my skill level. Would play again, though I'm sure the locals would want me to choose somewhere else. And at this time I'd like to thank my dad for carrying the sandbottle behind me on most holes since I forgot. The day we played was cart path only.
Challenging.
To start with, the practice facilities/ warm-up areas are awesome. The chipping green is in better condition than many courses' putting greens. Arrive early to take advantage of these features.
The course itself offeres challenging play from tee to green on every hole with water, sand, and deep ravines. The ball lies will be uphill, downhill, sidehill, left and right, and include angled teeboxes. (Grip-and-rip/ fast type players should expect to think through every shot to score well.) The smooth, fast, greens will require you to look on at least two sides of the hole to determine decieving lines and speeds. The fairways are dormant which make it difficult to see white balls. However, it is a great time of year to use orange, yellow, or pink. Otherwise, the fairways are in excellent condition.
HACKERS: Please bring a cool dozen high quality (preferably four-piece) balls. My friends and I like to find these types when looking for mine. This course will wear you out.
Loved the challenge and conditions. Would play again.
I look forward to playing this course again. It is very well kept and they have a wonderful staff.
Driving to the clubhouse and to the first whole presents an impressive view of what is an wonderful course. It has hills, woods, plenty of sand and other trouble to get into. The greens are superb, they were fast when I played. I will play this course again during prime season.
Very nice experience. Definitely worth the money.
Greens and traps were in excellent shape. Fairways were bermuda and dormant for the winter. No overseeding performed. No beverage cart
Don't miss this one!!!
Don't go to the Williamsburg, Va.area without taking the time to play this supreme layout...Clubhouse 25,000+ sq. ft. allwide cement cart paths, manicured bunkers, excellent greens, fairways were dormant Bermuda but very playable....May be one of the best layouts on the East Coast....Gated Community...
Pro shop Staff (Tim) could not have been more cordial....
a nice surprise
Somehow this course had slipped off my radar screen - not anymore. Very impressive design and fast greens, even in December - I'll be back!
Colonial Heritage 12/2/12
course played very good and the club and staff are nice.
Course in great condition
Course is in great condition. I love the fast greens. Putts stayed on line. Some holes a bit more challenging due to limited landing areas. Had some issues with the golf cart.
Fun, challenging course in good condition. I'll play again!
rolling, narrow fairways. some tough greens in good condition. some blind shots. unforgiving. accuracy a must.
fun and challenging course
Great course.,..............................................................
Amazing Shape
Course was in terrific shape. People were friendly. Lots of blind shots, tough course.
A playable but challenging course for all skill levels
One of my home courses is an Arthur Hills design, and like that one, Colonial is a fair yet stern test for all levels. I am used to playing the Blue tees, but for this course due to a recent scope on my knee, played the Whites. Even from there, this course at just over 6000 yds was long enough to challenge me. This is a surprisingly hilly shotmakers course which requires you to consider your club selection and position carefully. The bombers have a number of holes that they can let loose, but the real key is to keep the ball on the short grass, with errant shots finding well-placed bunkering, thick rough, or sloped lies. The greens are typical Hills: large, subtly undulating and plenty of pace, yet soft enough to hold medium and long irons without having to hit them sky high. Especially challenging around the greens, there are plenty of bunkers and terrain, and some of the views are stunning, with a number of tee shots requiring a carry over ravines ot trouble. A real gem!!
Great course & well worth the Golf Now deal
This is a great course and a great value on Golf Now. The greens are in really good condition. Other work being done in fringe but otherwise another good day at Colonial Heritage. We drove almost 2 hours to play on this Golf Now special.
This course has a lot of trouble and is not for short hitters.
The course is very picturesque with a lot of sand and plenty of trouble. There is not a lot of water. Greens are exceptionally fast. Can run into very slow play when younger children are playing the course. Definitely need a cart as some tees are a long ways from the previous green. It is a tough course for women who do not hit the ball long off the tee as many holes require you to hit across ravines, etc.
This course is not for beginners,
I had a great time playing this course. Playing this type of hilly and uneven fairways is a good change from the flat type course. I live in Fairfield Glade TN. and we play on 5 courses that we own. Two of our courses are of this type, hilly and uneven fairways and this is what golf is all about. Felt right at home. The one thing that seemed not up to par was the condition, not being watered and fertilized. Seeing that this course is open all year for play. Maybe this is because of the type of grass that is there.
the course is great
it is a very nice course enjoyed playing. staff was nice and very polite. i will play it again
Great course. Excellent shape.
Beautiful course. Fast greens, but true. Fairways were is great shape. Layout is really challenging, but very fair from forward tees. Buy a yardage book or use golf gps app. Would play this every other day if I could.
Challenging but fair
It was a beautiful day and the pace was awesome, no one slowing us up..........
Excellent layout, well maintained course
Course always seems to play long, excellent practice area.
tough course but fair from 4 sets of tees
always in good shape from tee to greens, great range to practice
