Not what it used to be
A few years ago, the lakes at river ridge was one of the best public courses in the county. No it’s just a shadow of what it used to be. Greens are inconsistent and not well taken care of. Tee boxes are unkept. Being in the fairway doesn’t necessarily mean you’ll have a decent lie. Pace of play was atrociously slow and no Marshalls to monitor this, like there used to be. Pro shop staff seems unhappy, like they don’t want to be there and they don’t want to be helping customers. The starter was friendly enough however. A lot of the holes are well designed, Shame they aren’t kept a bit tidier.
Lakes not what it used to be
Greens are better than 2 months ago but far cry from the beautiful greens of the past. Fungus, Bumpy, different speeds hard to get ball in hole. Need luck on your side.
Vineyard course: Well managed, well run. Friendly starter and on-course "Ambassador" keep things moving. Great walk, blue tees are challenging, and with perfect weather (as it was) the Channel Islands look huge! Terrific vistas! Nice hole variety. Thanks! Ted PS: I greatly appreciate that you keep the on-course water jugs freshly stocked -- cool, fat-free juice for us walkers...
Some greens are pretty bad. What happened?
The Lakes:
The punching/seeding didn’t seem to work on a few greens, it seems. The greens are divided into ⅓ nice, ⅓ average and ⅓ that need some serious repair. The ones that need repair either didn’t grow back from the punching, or they have very strange patchy areas that are spread all over the green like some weird patchwork quilt. They either need to be totally re-done or need a whole lot more sanding and rolling to get them to be the same as the good ones.
Today, some GreensKeeper must have spaced out, because the pin on 16 was on a literal side slope and everybody commented that it’s like mini-golf, where’s the windmill??? You would putt uphill to the hole, and if it didn’t go in, then the ball came back down to your feet off the wicked slope!!!
The worst green was 17, the Par 3. That one needs to be completely re-done. It’s so bad.
Reliably good
Course is always in great condition. Weather is always perfect. Can always get decent times and pace of play is reasonably good. Hope to keep it that way.
Unusually Slow
I am not sure what happened today, bit at times, there were four groups on a hole and multiple groups on tee boxes. The Friday afternoon round took 5 hours and 10 minutes.. The marshals said they couldn't do anything, it was just backed up!
