Talega Golf Club
About
Talega Golf Club is one of southern California's treasures, offering a challenging Fred Couples layout that sits above the "Spanish Village by the Sea." The course winds through canyons and valleys offering scenic views of the surrounding countryside throughout. The diverse layout will test your shot-making skills and there are also several interesting risk-reward opportunities including two reachable par 4s that will please long hitters. There is an abundance of bunkers coming into play, especially along the fairways, and golfers will be faced with the occasional blind shot. The greens are extremely quick and not a single one is flat. Nearly every green has multiple tiers. Water hazards also come into play on a few holes. One of Talega's most memorable holes is the monstrous 13th. This par 5 requires a carry over not just one but two ravines.

Ridiculously slow and no Marshall
The round was 20 min late teeing off and over 5 hours.
The groups ahead were so slow - they thought it was a Masters tourney.
2 of our foursome left in frustration.
It was nice to play again but I won’t go back for some time.
Great course with some renewal
If you’ve never played Talega I highly recommend jt but keep in mind they are beautifying and improving it so right now there are slam funky elements. Tee boxes are a bit off on certain holes, greens are inconsistent. Otherwise it’s a great course with a variety of holes that all challenge different skills in your bag. It’s a must play in the OC.
Still a nice course
Haven’t played Talega in a few years. It’s a tough layout. Greens, fairways and bunkers are all in great shape. Some tees are nearly bare but they’re in the process of re-sodding several of them. Staff extra friendly and helpful.
Could Be Much Better
Talega is a good go-to course. Lately there have been issues, mainly the fact that the tee boxes are messed up. Many in bad shape and many with missing tee markers. I asked and was told “Maintenance “. But no one was working on those particular boxes. Why wouldn’t they have markers on a busy Sunday?
And- They should have a refreshment cart. It took us 15 minutes to buy two drinks and a tenth tee bar at the turn. So long that the guys behind us we’re teeing off at the 10th tee ahead of us.
Otherwise a fun course. Good layout and in decent shape.
Starters are usually good but a bit of maintenance going on
Starters are usually courteous and weather is good for this time of year. The only thing was maintenance was qorking on course during play and too close to greens.
This is a nice course overall. My golf cart died on out of the blue for 10 minutes on a random hole (150 yards out in middle of fairway) and the carts are very old and crappy for an otherwise nice course. Was a little surprised by how dated they were given how far one needs to drive on this course (not walkable). A few holes are also completely blind off the tee which doesn’t make sense, you can’t see where the group is in front of you (in turn, people are hitting into you blindly). This is absolutely not worth $125/round due to the above but all and all, the course itself is nice and well kept.
Great layout fast play
Surprised at the negative reviews, I really enjoyed this course. Pace of play was excellent and the course is a challenge. Conditions could be better but far from bad; bunkers were nicely maintained, fairways were okay. Staff friendly and helpful. Carts are totally fine and normal.
Issues
I love playing Talega. But on Monday, the experience was not great. First of all, one of our carts broke down on the third tee box. It just stopped working. So we had to wait for a replacement which actually came pretty quickly.
And, for some reason, on most of the holes (probably 14) the markers were not on the tee boxes. They were on the side of the tree boxes just laying there. I called after a few holes and was told that they would let the GM know. But nothing changed. I went in the pro shop at the turn and told them nothing had changed. I was told that they were doing maintenance. ?????? I said I don’t understand and the woman just repeated “They are doing maintenance”. Oh well! We later saw some maintenance being done on 15 tee box, but none of the others. Why do they need to remove nearly all markers when they are only working on one at a time? It made for a confusing round from the tees, unnecessarily in my opinion.
Anyway, the course was still great and I will definitely go back. These were just a few issues that we dealt with while playing.
FRONT 9 gOOD BACK 9 SLOW
We teed off at 2:30 and the course is in much better shape than last year by the time we got to the back 9 it really slowed up we left after the 11th hole
Needs Better up keep
played here a bunch of times. always good but pace isn't the best. no Marshall's out there to keep play up. Don't get me wrong Hacks on hacks on hacks is ok. but not multiple balls and doing the same all day. Course needs major upkeep.
