Talega Golf Club
About
Talega Golf Club is one of southern California's treasures, offering a challenging Fred Couples layout that sits above the "Spanish Village by the Sea." The course winds through canyons and valleys offering scenic views of the surrounding countryside throughout. The diverse layout will test your shot-making skills and there are also several interesting risk-reward opportunities including two reachable par 4s that will please long hitters. There is an abundance of bunkers coming into play, especially along the fairways, and golfers will be faced with the occasional blind shot. The greens are extremely quick and not a single one is flat. Nearly every green has multiple tiers. Water hazards also come into play on a few holes. One of Talega's most memorable holes is the monstrous 13th. This par 5 requires a carry over not just one but two ravines.

they should rake the sand in bunkers at least once a day.
The sand felt like cement and was in terrible condition.
They need to trim the trees, especially on one whole where the tree blocked the view of the fairway and completely have overground blocking the view of the pole which is placed to show your where to aim on the fairway.
In short the maintanence crew is not doing the job. green
Manicured and Nice Design
The course was very nicely kept. I would not recommend walking because it has lot of hills. It has nice looking lakes and difficult par 3's. Enjoy your round.
No Facilities Open
This course seems like they are usually built around service, but I arrived an hour early to warm up and practice. Neither the range or any of the greens were open, so I sat around until my tee time without getting to warm up. For the money, play somewhere else until they get over the nonsensical fear around Corona. Try again once they're going because it seems like this should be a good experience.
Love Talega
Besides the two groups of old men in front of us and the sand traps that are just hard dirt, the course is great and I continue to play here with family and friends :)
This is not a negative review, I love this course
Improved
Greens were in great shape. Soft and a bit slow but much improved from the last time played. It appears efforts have been made to re-sod some areas and in general the fairways are in good shape.
Good value
Course was fun to play, not too challenging. A few of the greens were fairly marked up and hard to get a consistent roll on them. Pace was a bit slow taking 4hr 45m for a 2:00 Tuesday tee time.
Interesting note, I was playing with a friend of mine who is not in the same household as me, so we requested separate carts. The GPS on the cart I received did not work and the staff said “if you request separate carts, working GPS is not guaranteed.” Seems a bit ridiculous to me. I’d rather just have an apology for not having enough working carts with GPS than some justified excuse as to why I should be penalized for following governmental regulations regarding COVID safety.
Nice layout but poorly maintained.
First time I played it. Drive down 22 miles from Newport Beach. Not worth the trip
Good Value, Nice Course
Played on Monday afternoon for $60. People must have seen this rate on GolfNow because they were busy. This is an awesome design. The back 9 plays through a tranquil canyon with lots of wildlife. Bare spots in fairways are actively being addressed. Lots of new turf going in on the 2nd fairway today. Greens were smooth and receptive. I really wish people would fix their ball marks more often at this course though. Seems like whenever I play here, there’s always 5 to 10 of them on almost every green! Fix yours and 1 more PLEEASE! Driving range and practice green are both still closed due to Cvd-19. I’ll be back soon for this price!
Great Track
Played during the Cov-19 restrictions
No driving range
Pro shop only open to take money
Snack shop only no dining in or booze serving
Grass is a little rough on the edges
Still a great time
12:20 tee time 7/9
Its a challenging course for the first time playing, aiming sticks, blind shots and tee shots, water, slope...etc
For the low to mid handicaps, its the course you will want to play again...some memorable holes.
Pace of play was great. Other patrons and members were friendly, no homes in play.
Definitely recommend playing
