Talega Golf Club
About
Talega Golf Club is one of southern California's treasures, offering a challenging Fred Couples layout that sits above the "Spanish Village by the Sea." The course winds through canyons and valleys offering scenic views of the surrounding countryside throughout. The diverse layout will test your shot-making skills and there are also several interesting risk-reward opportunities including two reachable par 4s that will please long hitters. There is an abundance of bunkers coming into play, especially along the fairways, and golfers will be faced with the occasional blind shot. The greens are extremely quick and not a single one is flat. Nearly every green has multiple tiers. Water hazards also come into play on a few holes. One of Talega's most memorable holes is the monstrous 13th. This par 5 requires a carry over not just one but two ravines.

Good value if under $100
Perhaps due to the pandemic but the course offers few other services that th e good itself; however, the course is in good shape, the greens are in better than average condition and the pace is just over three hours. Fair value if under $100.
Much Improved
I hadn't played here in a couple years. They have definitely improved a lot! The greens - while very smooth - were very slooooww.. Pace of play was a little slow but this is a very good test of golf.
Talega GC
I've played here a number of times and have slowly become less interested in playing here. Although the rain did affect the course conditions, the pace of play was horrendous.
Too slow, no driving range
Could be great but missing the basics: the driving range is so far away you better show up 90 min early to get there and back. There are no rede she told carts on course. The back 9 is a slow wait he’ll due to a blind tee shot that backs everything up. The first 9 as on pace, and it took us 5:5 hours to finish. The clubhouse is tired.
Average - Poor course conditions, SLOW, over priced
First time played this course.
Layout - many holes (between 12-15) are OK to good, a few way too "Mickey Mouse - Poor!!! Makes you ask - "Where is the windmill or Ant Farm"!
Course conditions - greens = fair at best, many slow and bumpy, fairways = many have dry/dead spots; Rough needs work; many bunkers need work.
Pace - SLOW
Overall - when this first opened, it "maybe" could had been a Private course, now just a typical understaffed local Muni - for the Price - anything more than $35 with cart is overpriced!
Winter conditions
Long drive over to the driving range. We played the white tees @ 6187yds.First time playing this course so when you get to the back 9 there are some blind holes. Especially hole 15. Had no idea where to shoot, so we went down the cart path to have a look. Looks like the “target pole” is broken so was not visible from the tee box to give you your target over the trees. Couldn’t find my ball after hitting what I thought was going to be a great shot. Not sure if I was long or wide of the fairway, some local knowledge of the course would have been nice but we were all first time players. The fairways were not holding the ball at all due to winter conditions and several are very sloped and the balls would run off the fairway. A lot of the par 4’s are not long, but you have to favour one side of the fairway or the other in order to try and keep it in play. Many of the the traps were very hard and need some working up or more sand put in them! The greens were ok but the course was not in the greatest shape (off season condition ) The pace was slow also, I guess everyone was having difficulties today.
Beautiful golf course, with some nice elevation changes!
The course is in very good shape, greens were fun to put.
There are three extremely challenging holes on the back, 13,15 and16! Pay attention off the tee and bogey on these holes is a very good score. If your in the San Clemete area give it a try.
always challenging
this course is not long but very challenging makes you stay in control of your game .
Front 9 was in great shape, very enjoyable to play. Back 9 is poorly laid out and has many bare sections where the fairway grass is non existent. I will not be. Back.
Talega in decline
This once private course needs reinvestment. Fairways were burnt out, divots not filled, and traps in severe dis repair as compared to what Fred Couples designed. Greens were in reasonably good conditions.
nice but crowded
the course has a great layout. thin fairways, lots of roll, great greens, well-maintained. but way too many players! we teed off at 12:30 and only got in 14 holes. they need to restrict the number of players. plus lots of fairway divots which is rude b/c it is cart only and no walking.
we were in a threesome and playing great, but the good time was hindered by not finishing. will not play again on a weekend.
