Foxtail Golf Club - North Course
About
Foxtail Golf Club in Rohnert Park offers two championship courses, the North and the South, situated in the heart of wine country. The North Course originally opened in 1974 but underwent a major renovation that completely redesigned the layout, improving its conditions and making it more challenging. The par-72 North is considerably longer and more difficult than the par-71 South. The North features multiple doglegs and strategically placed sand traps that will test even the most experienced players. To make the golf course a bit more approachable, water hazards don't play a prominent role, though they do appear on a few holes, and the forward tees are very player friendly. With 36 holes available, Foxtail G.C. is able to host tournaments and events while still having another 18 holes open to the public.

Well Maintained
Even with a few days of rain, the course was very playable. Definitely time to put the expensive balls away, if you can't find the fairway. The rough wasn't in a good mood.
Sand traps were fluffy, and greens a tad bumpy, from rain softening the surface.
Can't wait to play Foxtail North again.
Golf back up
I love golfing at Foxtail. But on Sunday way too many golfers were booked too close together. Instead of getting to play 18 holes we only played 13. Please do not schedule the times so close together. I don't know if this is a golf course problem or a booking problem but maybe both could work together.
Thank you.
Winter conditions
Course was wet and the rough long. Not a problem if I would just hit the fairway.
Greens were uncustomarily long and uncut.
Still a great value.
Bunkers?
I was disappointed to see the lack of care for the bunkers on this course. There was no mention of the bunkers being under repair.
Bunkers and greens
Course is fine. Bunkers suck. Just play bunkers as GUR. Greens have been better. Too much inconsistency. Need better care. More rolling. Their greens are better when their faster.
Good Course
I enjoy the course and it is in very good condition for a north bay public course. The bunkers are absolutely unplayable, but the greens, fairways, primary rough are all in good shape. Tee boxes are just OK, but you can always find a decent spot to tee off from (level, decent grass). Populated by the usual pigs who don't repair their ball marks or sand their fairway divots. I guess the one benefit of dirt bunkers is I don't have to complain about the folks that don't rake them.
Best maintained public course in the area
I've played all the local 18 hole courses from Santa Rosa to Petaluma and while I am a fan of most, in my opinion Foxtail North is in the best shape. Lush fairways with extremely few dry or wet spots, and greens are very green and run smooth. Not many straight and or flat hole designs. Seven holes have water to consider or creeks to negotiate. Bunkers are placed quite strategically, and there can be some challenging pin placements as almost all greens have slope - just try to stay below the hole. To sum it up there are no trick or gimmicky holes - Foxtail North rewards good shots.
Greens rolling at 10.5 to 11
This was a great course to play. Just two of us played and pace was fine til we ran into a fivesome on the back nine. The last 5 holes was slow but we hung in there as the course was in great shape and the greens were rolling fast and true. The slow play allowed us to hit extra shots as there was no one behind us. Definitely play this course again.
