Foxtail Golf Club - North Course
About
Foxtail Golf Club in Rohnert Park offers two championship courses, the North and the South, situated in the heart of wine country. The North Course originally opened in 1974 but underwent a major renovation that completely redesigned the layout, improving its conditions and making it more challenging. The par-72 North is considerably longer and more difficult than the par-71 South. The North features multiple doglegs and strategically placed sand traps that will test even the most experienced players. To make the golf course a bit more approachable, water hazards don't play a prominent role, though they do appear on a few holes, and the forward tees are very player friendly. With 36 holes available, Foxtail G.C. is able to host tournaments and events while still having another 18 holes open to the public.

Good Course
I enjoy the course and it is in very good condition for a north bay public course. The bunkers are absolutely unplayable, but the greens, fairways, primary rough are all in good shape. Tee boxes are just OK, but you can always find a decent spot to tee off from (level, decent grass). Populated by the usual pigs who don't repair their ball marks or sand their fairway divots. I guess the one benefit of dirt bunkers is I don't have to complain about the folks that don't rake them.
Best maintained public course in the area
I've played all the local 18 hole courses from Santa Rosa to Petaluma and while I am a fan of most, in my opinion Foxtail North is in the best shape. Lush fairways with extremely few dry or wet spots, and greens are very green and run smooth. Not many straight and or flat hole designs. Seven holes have water to consider or creeks to negotiate. Bunkers are placed quite strategically, and there can be some challenging pin placements as almost all greens have slope - just try to stay below the hole. To sum it up there are no trick or gimmicky holes - Foxtail North rewards good shots.
Greens rolling at 10.5 to 11
This was a great course to play. Just two of us played and pace was fine til we ran into a fivesome on the back nine. The last 5 holes was slow but we hung in there as the course was in great shape and the greens were rolling fast and true. The slow play allowed us to hit extra shots as there was no one behind us. Definitely play this course again.
Perfect round
We had no one in front of us until the 11th hole. The greens we were very nice and smooth. The fairways were very well maintained. I have only one complaint that the bunkers had next to no sand. But we were warned at the pro shop that they are repairing them in the next few days. Marshals came by a few times and were very pleasant. I brought water with me and it wasn't a hot day but I didn't notice any water refill stations. Overall a great course and a very accommodating staff.
verngolf
Abusive fivesome in front of us which we reported to marshall who kicked them off. Previous week another misbehaving foursome. Greens are filled with unrepaired ball marks. It is very cheap to play here, we use it as a kind of practice course, but a real dogtrack.
poor conditon for summer
Played in June temperature in 80's constant mud balls in fairways. Green stimp about 5 or 6 most of the bunkers are rock hard adobe. Good layout just clueless greens keeping.
Course is in great condition, except for the bunkers
Overall great conditions. Bunkers are hit and miss. Most are hard adobe, a few are soft. Pace was backed up, but is normally good. Condition wise top 3 in Sonoma county
Good course
I play here all the time. It's a flat course and drains very well in the winter. Greens are usually in good shape. Pace of play is usually ok to a little slow. Just know the bunkers suck bad here. Every time I come here I try to avoid the bunkers. If you go in them it can ruin your round. Almost like hitting off concrete with clay. Not really sure why they haven't done anything with them since it's the only bad thing about this course. Just know they suck bad. Other than that I like the course and always come back.
Good for price
Not bad greens in good shape, bunkers little rough.times gets little slow. Paid 21.50 with cart 115 on weekend.
Great course layout for the cost
This is my local course, I love to play the North side. The fairways are usually in good condition, but the rough can get a little deep. The sand traps can be pretty bad, but I've heard they will be fixed soon. For such a flat area, the layout of the course plays great. There are some fun water hazard holes, and plenty of long dog leg blind shots. Great value if you catch the evening rate!
Solid Course
Foxtail North is beautiful and affordable. Greens are solid as are the fairways. Rough is a little high right now so try to stay out of there!
Course is challenging but fair
Clubhouse opened just 6 minutes before our tee time, not set up for getting range balls. No time to hit range balls or practice putting. Greens and fairways were in good condition. If you did not actually hit the fairway your ball was very hard to find, but you would find 2 or 3 other balls trying to find your own. The rough was at least 1 inch taller than your golf ball. Too much recent rain must have kept them from doing a lot of mowing.
Great Value
A very convenient course for me to play. Staff was friendly and the course was in great condition except for the occasional bunker.
I played as a single but stayed in line with a group of four ahead of me as I would have had to wait for the next group. I still finished in four hours.
